Looking at this thing from Williams point of view, why would he commit at this time. He is a somewhat under the radar player that could elevate his stock through the season and attract some P5 big offers were immediate playing time may be available. Here he is going to compete with Moore, Cumberland and Evans. There is also the fact that if he waits until after the Big 12 meeting on Oct 17 He will have a better idea about our conference status. If I was him I would be in no rush to sign just yet.

He's a Bearcat WAITE. Just give it some time.

No way the coaches make this guy such a priority and don't land him.

He will have to compete anywhere he goes. Especially if he wants to play at a high-major level. This is a 3-star prospect, not Trevon Duval.

Thank you! Waite seems to think every other team in D1 has a roster that is completely bare. Also talks about needing to earn minutes, but acts like Williams is a lock to be on the bench behind guys who have never played a game here. He always talks about needing wing depth, but then says...well you get the point.

Bottom line: If he is good, he should play. Period. And there is no excuse not to land him. We got him on campus first. We have made him a priority. If lack of opportunity was a big factor, on our end or his, neither of those things above would be the case. It's just a pre-emptive excuse. I mean look at Dayton, he's visiting there. In 2016 they landed a SG rated more highly than Moore and got Antetokounmpo. They also have a SG locked up for 2017, and that doesn't even include what they already have on their roster...where are the minutes there???

So while he's waiting for news to see if we get into a better conference, he's going to go visit an Atlantic 10 school? It really looks to me like you're trying to find any excuse possible beforehand so if he chooses somewhere else you can feel better about it. That's just what it looks like from my end.

There are a finite number of scholarships available as well so, unless you are an elite prospect, you can't assume there will be a scholarship available for you at the level you expect to play. If I was a parent of a potential D-1 athlete, I would give my child the following advice:

- Do your research and due diligence on all opportunities
- Weigh your options and determine if any options, early in the signing period, fit what you are looking for.
- If there are fits, take your visits, make sure you like the SCHOOL because the coaching staff is not guaranteed to be there
- Consider the coaching staff and how they can make you better as a player and the education you can get at the school because there is no guarantee that you will play professionally and even less guarantee that you will be a big time star.
- If you find a school and coaching staff you like and they offer you a scholarship, commit because the school and staff can't wait forever and the grass isn't always greener.

Great post

He is also visiting Oklahoma State.

Jason I was the father of a D-1 athlete. Pretty much what I told him. But we did discuss who he and to beat out to get in the lineup.

I consider that part of doing your due diligence and research on an opportunity. If you are considering UK, you should know that there is probably a 5 star player on the way your second year. If you are cool with that, fine. Just better understand the situation.

im sure most of the kids going to KY are going with the idea that they will only be there 1 year.

sure Jake.
For what it's worth, Chad said on his recent podcast that Williams will visit Dayton, but may likely cancel the visit to OSU. He is apparently leaning towards UC or Dayton.

If that's true, I like our chances. Chad is really high on Williams - thinks he'll be a strong college player.

He's a Bearcat trust me.

For those that are BCJ members, you know I am a rough critic when I am out scouting. Potential is nice, but if production doesn't follow there is little for me to get behind. I liked Anthony Gaines quite a bit, but he's a kid that will struggle to score at the highest level. I'm a huge fan of dirty work guys, but it can't be a one dimensional thing if you are going to play on the wing and be needed to score.

Williams checks off almost every box in what I look for. He wants to guard the opponents main perimeter threat, and can do it well across several positions. He can score at all three levels. He has a handle that can create problems in the middle of a defense. Plus he has that toughness that NYC guards are known for. He has all the makings of an early program guy that can become a star as he puts in the work necessary.

I haven't pushed a kid this hard since Gary Clark. Hopefully they get him in the fold and see similar results...
