BREAKING: Colorado State G Jon Octeus has been granted his release and will transfer, according to University statement.

According to source, Octeus has received most interest from UCLA, Missouri, and Cincinnati. Would be immediately eligible for one season.

I can't imagine he's a huge game-changer, but I'd certainly take him for a season. Not much harm in it.

Anytime you can get a proven player, you do it. Yes, we'd all love to see our young guys develop, but Mick is expected to make the tournament every season. There is no such thing as a rebuilding year in today's game. We all love TC and KJ and know they will contribute, but who's to say either one is ready to be a go-to player? What if Guyn doesn't improve? And we know almost nothing about Morman and Cobb except what we have heard from the coaching staff.

And from what I've read, Octeus plays point guard, giving us a ton of versatility in the back court. He averaged 13 ppg in the Mountain West on a team with 2 other scorers. This is the kind of transfer that can be the difference between making the NCAA tournament and being in the NIT.

Did you see what he did in those road games?

I did. I'm not down on the kid by any means. I'm just saying I doubt he'd come in and lead the team. 40% from the field taking 10 attempts a game isn't eye-opening to me. He'd likely be a great contributor, but I just wonder if he only scored 13.4 ppg because, well, someone has to score.

No one scores that many points in the Mountain West "bc well someone has to score". It's not like Colorado State is Niagara or something. I agree when you say you doubt he'd come in and lead the team...that's a good thing imo. I'll take a veteran guy for 1 year at 7-10 ppg.

That's about what I'd expect if we landed him.

He scored 12 pts in 24 minutes vs Mizzou in the 8/9 game in 2013. Then played 26 minutes (only 6 points) v Louisville the next round.

There is basically no risk in bringing this player in. If he would like to come here, I would welcome it. If he comes and it doesn't work out, you don't lose a scholarship from a recruiting standpoint beyond 2014 and it appears likely the scholarship would not be used this season anyway. I don't see the downside.

I would agree...a productive D1 one and done transfer is perfect for us and I don't care which position it is...we can get them minutes somewhere that can help. I would rather it be a SF or BIG than a guard...but take what you can get if you can replace it next year with an open scholly.

Anyone saying Jon Octeus isn't a big loss to Colorado State is out of their mind. Easily the Rams' best off-ball defender and is clutch on O

Sounds like a good addition based off that. We have guys like Guyn, Johnson, and Morman to play stifling on-ball defense. Off-ball defenders are every bit as valuable and we definitely need offense.

How many schollys does Missouri have left? would this mean they are out on Octeus?

I don't think they'd be out of scholarships yet. They had a couple leave for the NBA, Price got dismissed, and I know at least one transferred out.

They're in the same boat as us with both a sophomore PG and senior PG on the roster right now.

Hate to say it but its quite obvious Mick isn't sold on one of our young guards. You don't bring in transfer players to ride bench.

you never stop trying to elevate the talent on your team. Injuries do occur. If you can get a guy for a year without giving up a 2015 scholly there is know downside. Doesn't mean he is unhappy at all.
