Waite. Before Farley Dickinson... kJ shot 15 percent from 3 in his previous 5 games. He's been good from 2 all year though. That is not really a trend from 3. I will say I am glad he made some 3s last game but don't expect a trend there. I am also glad he took it upon himself to go to the bucket in a few games when nobody else was. So in that regard I do think he has moved forward. Jury is still out from deep.

Cumberland, on the other hand, may have started something. Remember...once is a fluke, twice is coincidence, three times is a trend:). One more good shooting night from Cumberland will go a long way.
career wise KJ never shot as bad as he started out this year doing. When he doesn't force the shot and steps into it he can knock them down. Some of his misses were clock running down heaves. We are doing much better staying away from those situations lately and everyone is playing better.

Seems like the togetherness aspect of the team is very strong. As I just posted, us fans talk "Cumberland vs Johnson", but in reality, Johnson genuinely seems like he would do anything he can to help his younger teammates. Same position or not.

He's a tough team player I will give him that!! There's more than points to consider I can agree

I say give Cumberland more time now and get him ready for the NCAA's. KJ's not going to forget how to play defense.
this team is playing its best basketball of he season. If it ain't broke I don't fix it. Cumberland has a role and he is doing very well at it. This season isn't just about developing Cumberland it's about winning a championship.

I don't think he's been forcing much. He's just been missing. Hopefully making buckets becomes contagious. Everyone gets a last second heave added into their totals for the most part. Troy probably leads that stat.

Maybe KJ turned a corner...god knows he needed the confidence boost.

his career stats indicate he is due for a correction.

Best basketball of the season against FD and TS remember when they played a good team (Butler) KJ played terrible and Cumberland barely played.

We are within a short and curly of making it 0-3 in our biggest games. Crushing patsies doesn't mean we fixed a lot. We have played better in two games against patsies. I hope we have helped players like Cumberland and Jenifer get confidence... because i absolutely think these games are mostly about that.

We are not going to put in the second unit and run up tempo in big/close games. We are going to infuse a bench player here and there and run a traditional Cronin offense. We need to build our bench confidence so we can play that game a little better.

By the way...I do think signs are encouraging lately. I do think we needed some time to gel. I do think our players have a better attitude and are more efficient.

We must translate all of this to big games. So far...we are 1 of 3 with a close call. I think we are a much better team than last year. I think we can be even better with the right minutes.

The way to get this team to play like a team is not to let them all play against patsies but to somehow get them all involved in big games and not devolve into 5 players getting 30+ minutes.

5 players getting 30 + minutes equals tired players...and some of them not being the best option on an off night. If you are 8 deep...use it.

Fun little stat: Jacob Evans started the season with uncharacteristically high TO's.

He had 11 in his first 5 games.

However in this last 6 games he has just 5.

Last year he was one of the best players, let alone freshman, at protecting the ball

Sometimes figuring out KenPom algorithms can be tough. I think we went down in offensive efficiency after scoring 119 and we went up on D after giving up 68 which is more than our average by 7.5 points...lol!

Another crazy stat...we are 334 in tempo after scoring 119 points...lol!

I don't have the numbers in front of me, but both teams were moving REALLY fast in that game. Since there were a ton of possessions by both teams, giving up 68 isn't really *that* bad.

1. KenPom is a predictive rankings, not necessarily a ranking of how good the team is.

2. The efficiency ratings are based on a per 100 possession basis. The difference between KenPom and the raw numbers is he adjusts the numbers based on competition. Essentially it compares your performance to the national average at offense and defense. The numbers you see on the site are how well a team is expected to perform against an average defense/offense.

3. FDU is an awful team in the ratings (#295) and that game had 83 possessions. FDU scored 0.83 PPP and UC scored 1.45 PPP. When you factor in the adjustments based on a comparison to the average, it's not unreasonable to see the ratings not change drastically or even go down.

I should have known it was possession based. Makes more sense now... thanks

It's not crazy at all. Cincinnati's average possessions are quite low and one game against a team that plays relatively fast is not going to change it.

Could be another fast paced game on Thursday. Marshall averages 79.3 possessions per game and averages 86.7ppg.

But to be 334 doesn't leave much room for deprovement...lol! What were we before the game?? Last?
