This is ridiculous. Maybe I'm being too big a homer but how do we not still have a standout win? The writer explains how we are the most disrespected team in the top 16 even though he could have just said top 15 then he proceeds to add disrespect. Our conference sucks. Btw, in another article on s.i.com Seth Davis called smu a mid major lol.

Now we know what gonzaga feels like most of the time. We could have a couple more losses and still played basically the same schedule in the big ten and we would easily be top ten.

It's not our fault our conference is having a bad season and on top of that gets no love from anyone. SMU just now getting ranked is a joke, and they still aren't in the coaches poll with 16-7 Notre dame in there. ACC is always on TV and I've seen ND play multiple times, they are not better than SMU. They may have won a couple games, old how, but watching them try to come back from a deficit is like pulling teeth, it's miserable. They are not a good team.

Yeah, you're too big of a homer :)

From today's AP poll:
Rhode Island (L) NR
Iowa State NR
Butler (L) #22
SMU - 25
Xavier - 24

We have not beaten a team highly ranked in the AP. I think it's pretty accurate to say we don't have a "standout win". That's also why I think any dreams of a #1 seed are just that, dreams. Even winning out won't give UC a standout win. We might get 3 wins against a borderline top-25 SMU team, but that would be it.

Edit - was going off an old poll. X and SMU are actually ranked this week.

So is it better to lose to really good teams or beat some pretty good teams? Asking for a friend...

So then why are we the most disrespected team? And if we were still undefeated should we not be a top 3 team? Wins at butler and RI wouldn't be that big of a difference. I think the fact Iowa state has beaten Kansas should give that win more weight not to mention we broke a long streak in that place

Wins at Butler and RI would absolutely make a difference. For a top-5 team, losing to RI is a bad loss. For a top-25 team, not so much.

Iowa State beating Kansas doesn't help UC any more than Temple beating Florida State, or Xavier beating whoever the heck they've beaten. If it mattered then all the teams who've beaten Rhode Island could claim a marquee win because of Cincy. There is no transitive property of victories. :)

Just my opinion, but I think the mild disrespect is stuff we've all complained about: A weak conference, no marquee wins, and not advancing past the Sweet 16 in years. Keep winning and all that will take care of itself.

Agreed above. Keep winning. I'll take a 2 or 3 seed anyways. heck maybe we play a 11 or 10 seed in the next round versus the 8 or 9 seed.

I would be extremely happy if we can achieve a 2 or 3 seed! With the way teams will be getting knocked off in the P5 conferences we could make this happen.

If we win out I think it's a 1-2 seed.

If we lose just one more game that means we will win either the regular season title or the tourney (or both). We can't lose just one more game and not win one of them outright. I think this is a 2-3 seed.

With 2 losses we will either share the conference title or win the tourney. If we lose 2 regular season games...that means we win the tourney. If we lose 1 regular season and 1 tourney game we will at least share the conference title. I think this is a 3-4 seed.

I don't want to really consider anything else right now.

It's been 13 years since we have had a top 4 seed. That should be our minimum goal right now. I think it would be extremely hard to get a 1 seed with our conference strength...probably would require winning out...and even then we may not get it unless we really take care of our business.

Come to play every day. Take nothing for granted. Set really high goals. We need to have the attitude that we can beat anyone, anytime, anywhere!

agreed! I'd be ecstatic with top four. While a 2 seed is within realm of possibility, there's not much difference between 2 and 3 - you still have to take care of early games. I'd almost like a 3 instead of a 2 so we are the underdog if we get to the sweet sixteen and stay away from the 1 seeds until the Elite 8, if we get past the first sweet sixteen opponent.

Mick is doing pretty darned good keeping this team focused on the next opponent, but as fans we can look as far ahead as we want

Not even going to think about it until the @ SMU game. One of the most under rated teams right now. One game at a time, get past UCF & SMU. Well thats two.

The SMU game really scares me. Cumberland hasnt shot well on the road and KJ has gone on a downward spiral.

All those people who think point spreads matter should mostly believe we will get beaten by SMU on Sunday. We would be a straight underdog on a neutral court let alone on theirs.

So I'm going to stay that game is a loss, we just need to win out and hope they slip up to someone else.

Lol I really don't think you're grasping what the point is on point spreads. Handicapping a game is basically power ranking the teams. In the context I'm using, it's implying a margin for error. That's all.
