This whole smiling thing has been blown way out of proportion by now. Caupain has as much or more heart than anyone on the team. His smile or smirk in no way tells me he is okay with making mistakes, playing poorly, or losing. I can't think of another player I feel this concept relates to less than him...just my opinion.

I agree that it's been blown out of proportion. I'm just tired of people ignoring the context. Either by choice bc they like to troll, or by lack of reading comprehension skills.

And for goodness sakes, no one ever said anything about it meaning he's okay with making mistakes.

Troy Caupain needs to decide once and for all that's he's done losing. We've lost 22 times in the last 2 years. That's is a ton of losses, especially for an AAC team. I know it would drive Bulldog nuts when Caupain would smile after making critical mistakes. To me, it's a sign of immaturity. Hopefully with his career dwindling down, we see a more cold-blooded, methodical leader in Caupain. We saw it more towards the end of the year, but he has to play with those kind of guts in every game. And he needs to demand it from his teammates as well.

I think we might see Kyle Washington as this kind of leader as well. He doesn't seem like he's messing around.

This is the original post. Him smiling wasn't even the main point. It was a blip inside of 1 poat. How this turned into what it did is insane.

I am aware of your original intent. ..but then other opinions got involved. ..lol

I agree smiling wasn't the main issue but your first sentence seemed to suggest that Troy was either the problem or the only one who could fix it. He shouldn't have to apologize for being the best player on the team...the rest of the players should apologize to him.

A lot will be expected of him his SR year. I wasn't on board with it being "his" team going into this year bc I didn't feel like he had earned it on the floor. He proved that he's the leader this year though. I think that's something coaches, players, and program insiders knew before we saw the 1st team All-Conference player he became. I don't mean to make it sound like it's his fault that we've lost so much. But this is his last year, and he has a chance to leave his mark. I saw the Sweet 16 team and SK's SR year as the 1st generation of Bearcats under Cronin. Caupain is the leader of the 2nd generation. I'd hate to see him walk out the door without having experienced more success.

Not trying to divert this wonderful discussion but with 4 of 5 starting spots settled developing a bench to rest and contribute in the case of injuries is a must for next season.

JJ needs better court awareness. Has to improve defensively. His jumper needs work.

Qaudri needs to understand his role. Really has trouble with foot speed. Really has a problem guarding the 4 spot. He needs to understand he isn't the No. 1 option to shoot the ball. Must improve defensively and with shot selection. Think he is more of a 5 then a 4.

Scott, he'll hit the offensive glass and work well in the press defensively. He will need time to develop offensively. He will play good defense but other then put backs will be limited offensively. Is certainly a 4 not a 3. High energy guy.

KJ needs to continue to work on his spot up shooting and Ball handling. Improving getting to the rim would be a big help when the defense is running at him. He improved delivering the ball to the Bigs as the season went on and his on the ball defense is the best on the team. Shooting and Ball handling is what he should be working on this off season. a mid range game would be big for him.

Cumberland will need to improve his foot speed. Defensively he will be challenged. Shot selection could be a issue because he is used to being the man. Really see him backing up Evans and getting minutes at the 2 as well. I will be surprised if he starts. Pleasantly surprised actually.

Brooks will also need to adjust to the speed and athletic ability he will see at this level. If he protects the rim and can give Kyle a breather at times he will meet my expectations.

Really don't think we will see a recruit come in and add valuable minutes. Without having immediate playing time to offer. Luring a 4 or 5 star to come in and sit behind the starting 5 and waiting their turn is not going to happen. I look for us to be in the market for a grad transfer who can give us minutes in the post and a athletic wing we can develop after KJ and TC leave.

Thanks for the breakdown Waite.

I don't think Johnson will ever be an all-around scorer. I'd scrap the mid-range stuff for him.

I know Scott is a 4 and will be. But Larry Davis said last year that he was a 3 trying to become more of a 4. Did he just mean adding some weight to be able to bang down low? I never really understood that.

All around would be a stretch for KJ. If he improves his spot up game I'd be happy. He did at times Look like he could be effective pulling up in the lane but getting all the way to the rim is a dream.

People I have talked to have indicated that Scott will not be a 3. He will be a very aggressive offensive rebounder and defender. Block shots, steals and put backs will be his calling card next year. Don't see him as a 3.

When KJ drives, a good amount of those times he stops around the lane, turns around and does a little fade away. If hes going to do that, that is fine, he just needs to hit it at a consistent rate. Id like for him to try and get to the rim and draw contact though. The guy is built very solid and is very strong. Not to mention isnt too shabby of a free throw shooter.

I guess im one of those guys that wishes more people would try and get to the line when they start a game off cold. In a recent interview with cumberland he mentioned that. He said if hes not feeling his shot and starts off cold, he will attack the rim and try and get to the line to get some confidence back. This is something I was always taught to do, and think players can really benefit from it.

I agree with you about KJ. I like that little pull up but your right his ball handling would make it tough for him to get to the rim. it would be nice though.

Cumberland will be a nice player just will need to play defense. His size will also dictate how he is used. If he is as good as Evans we are in business. A very overlooked quality about Evans is size and versitility. He also showed he can handle the rock. Rebound a bit and block some shots. Very excited about his game.

I haven't seen much of Scott but what I picture with him is Justin Jackson. I hope to god it doesn't take 3 years for Scott to realize that he needs to score around the hoop and develop some post moves.

This is OT but its about 2016-2017 season. I saw in the Enquirer today they said Xavier got left out of the Gavitt Games which is games between the Big East and Big 10.

"Jon Rothstein of CBSSports.com announced the 2016 pairings tonight on Twitter. They are: Wisconsin at Creighton, Villanova at Purdue, Northwestern at Butler, Maryland at Georgetown, St. John's at Minnesota, Rutgers at DePaul, Providence at Ohio State, and Seton Hall at Iowa.

"We are disappointed not to be a part of the Gavitt Games this season. We expected to host a Big Ten team and alerted the Big East office more than a year ago to our limited date availability because of the Puerto Rico exempt tournament," Xavier athletic director Greg Christopher said."

I always like to see anything not good with Xavier. I hope they are butt hurt.

I hope for the sake of UC basketball that we never have to rely on feeding Scott in the post.
