I don't think Uc comes out flat in games against high powered offense Bc of anything the coach does. It's typically because our D works better as the game goes on and we figure out how they play offensively.
From Iowa st to Xavier, it just took our D a while to figure out the good offensive teams.
Good offensive teams can start good from the start bc it's less reactionary. Uc needs to feel you out first, unfortunately that leads us to down 14-4 to start games and yet, by the start of the second half, we've either tied the game or brought it to a few points.

As our offense gets better, I think will start games better

We aren't built to come from behind. At all. Not even a little. So if defense is going to be our calling card, I'd rather be the team that comes out swinging. That's why I like Cumberland over Johnson as a starter so much. If we need to put the clamps down on D, Johnson can come off the bench and give us a lift. I really wish we'd make a point to try to score 10 by the first media timeout in every game.

I agree with you on that. I also hope to God Troy realizes he should be driving to the hoop from the start of the tip. Too many times last year it was like he wouldn't do it til we were down and needed to comeback. He's so much better when he attacks.
Also, I hope we don't see Troy walk the ball up as much. Unfortunately I think that won't happen and at this point, it is what it is.

My hope is Troy continues to limit his tourn overs, shares the ball, improves his shot selection and his percentage and for gosh sakes stop dribble penetration. Who will be the go to guy in our offense I believe is yet to be determined.

Waite I'm not saying to move the line for Cumberland. I'm saying to be adaptable to the players you get. He might get beat a couple times and score 15 efficient points. Johnson might not get beat at all and shoot 1-7. Different kinds of players. Not fair to bench someone for not fitting a very specific mold, if you aren't specifically targetting players with that mold in mind. Based on reports I've heard, Cumberland is a different kind of player. If he is going to have that be held against him, he shouldn't be here.

Lets first see what Cumberland can do at the college level in front of Thousands of fans and bright lights on a college level before we Judge! KJ has play in 3 NCAA tournament seasons and have been the reason for advancement in games and does not back down! I leave him in the starting line up and grow from there. KJ earned that!

Cumberland all day everyday, Cumberland better as a freshman than kj as a senior!!!

Ha are you being sarcastic?

We haven't seen Cumberland play at this level. I've seen him play in High School and he is very good but he could have a freshman season like Jermaine Lawrence did for all we know.

Go with your Senior to open the season, let Cumberland fight his way into lineup as he is already going to get minutes since he is our only wing on the bench really. It will make Cumberland and KJ better because of it.

I thought before Shaq had his injuries that he had his best season yet and a lot of that, may have been because he didnt want to lose his starting spot to an up and coming freshman.

Same goes for Caupain. TC became a better passer and distributor because of Jenifer. Caupain made a big jump in Assist Ratio and even a bigger jump in TO rate

Not that this is a surprise at all and I'll try to leave this vague, but I asked a current player what the starting 5 is going to be ( just messing around when I saw him on campus a week ago) and he said TC, KJ, Evans, Clark, and Washington. Didn't think he'd actually answer but he was very nice and didn't seem to mind.

Believe me or not, your call. But it happened. Like I said, not a surprise that those 5 will get starter minutes to begin the season.

Makes sense to me. Anyone who thought any different might need a head check. Obvious starting 5 for many reasons. Also, I think some people too much stock in the starting 5.

That's what we all expect the starting 5 to be. Knowing Mick, there is no way he'd start a freshman if he can avoid it.

Cronin always goes with the senior to start but Cumberland will play more minutes a game than kj mark it down.

Cumberland plays elite aau ball in front of biggest coaches and sporting handlers in world. Kj hasn't earned nothing.
