In Dan Horde's interview with Jacob Evans they talked about being better on offense and the importance of it come tourney time. Jacob straight up acknowledged it and said it's a must to succeed in March. Also straight up said the team all has that mentality.

Good to hear and its nice to know that is being preached by the coaches. Now, if actions will be louder than their words is a different story. I think we have the players to run a effective motion offense. But, motion offense is pretty simple if you have a team that understands it. It definitely takes some basketball IQ. Sometimes that is questioned with our guys year in year out. I just hope our coaches have gotten better on teaching it.

Didn't Huggins just lose in the tourney to Stephen F Austin? What exactly do you mean by "flourished?"

You are not allowed to challenged the greatness of our lord and savior Bob Huggins.

As Bearcat fans still stuck living in the 90s/00s, we are only to look at the highlights of his career and forget all the disappointing finishes his teams had. It didn't matter if we had poor quality individuals like Donald Little on those teams, we were able to lose in the second round of the tournament in style.

All I know is I was born in 1990 by the time I can remember UC was 1998 1999 used to go to all the games since my grandpa owned Clifton Skyline. Always a top team, but never made it far in March. That's all I remember. We would at least win or compete for CUSA title. We need to start getting there in AAC. For Cronin's defense. Huggins didn't play Louisville every year before the conference championship. I don't get how we play UConn every single time in the first round. It's unreal really. That should be the championship game every year.

We are 4 weeks away gentlemen. I think we can all agree, we will be in high spirits that day. When is it acceptable to start a thread on our first opponent. I say 2 more weeks.

Hopefully this year we're the top seed and can control our destiny a little.

Agreed. but sometimes its even UConn that had the down year ends up as 5 or 6 seed and beats us . I can't remember how everything has panned out the past 4 years and how we ended up playing them each time. Hopefully we are 1 and they are 2.

Few things I need to see happen for my sanity being a fan of Bearcat Basketball:
1. Win our first tough game (Rohde Island). Not even the sole reason to just see us play Duke, but after losing a lot of our big games last year it has left such a bad taste in my mouth. I want a top 25 win off the jump. Just like we beat SDSU 2 years ago early in the season.
2. Split Butler and ISU. Both games we could have won last year. It's going to be hard to beat both but would love to at least split these.
3. BEAT XAVIER. No discussion needed, just win.
4. Rip through the AAC. Finish first and at the very worst and I mean very worst 2nd place.
5. Get a 5 seed or better in the tourney.

Let's have a positive year. With all the negativity from last year, please basketball Gods, help us out.

He currently stands at #20 all-time wins in the history of college basketball, with probably at least 7 more years to coach. You figure it out.
Do you consider the graduation rate when he left or the fact that his impersonation of Otis of Mayberry helped get us in this position as a program. Really don't consider that flourishing. Bob had his moments here for sure but my expectations are much higher for a Coach then what Bob ended his tenure with.

You are right with that. That was probably a top priority for him in the offseason.
Some people naturally can play 40 min. Jacob and Lazelle Durden come to mind. Gary is not one of them. He is not overweight. They run ALL the time. He is young. It is genetics - his cardiac output I guess. Even Mick said last year he is a 30 min guy. I hope he can play fresh even at 35 minutes. But I don't think so.

How long has each of them been coaching? How big of a name is one compared to the other? Not including Es h of their first 4 seasons, because we all know what a rebuild that was for mick. Huggins posted a .77 win percentage on the next 6 seasons, Mick a .71. Not as huge of a margin as you make it out to be, the program is getting better year by year.

Waite, why did Mick only inherit that one piece of DNA from Huggs and Pitino? He obviously didn't inherit their recruiting prowess (signing blue chip players) or their ability to develop great players who can score, or their ability to achieve high rankings and winning championships. Huggs's last 11 teams averaged 76, 77, 67, 78, 74, 78, 74, 76, 80, 80, 81 for an average of 77 per game. Mick's teams have averaged 67 per game and has only gotten above 70 once in ten years, and that is playing a plethora of cupcakes each year where he runs up those point totals and averages. Pitino's teams have been in the mid-70s with an occasional 80 pt. average as well. So, the DNA that Mick should have inherited was guard and play offense, not just guard and slow the ball down on offense. The fact that he obviously is over-emphasizing the defensive end of the ball, is what the difference is between where our bar is today, and where it should, or could, be.

Hopefully. that 73 pt. offensive average last year is a sign of things to come. The trick now is to figure out how to get the higher point totals, while still maintaining the tough defense. Huggs and Pitino figured that out and have flourished. Our defensive average of 63 last year was the highest in about the last 7 years, so I'm hoping that Mick is not over-obsessing on that number.

Just a reminder that this is a thread on the 2016-17 season

Thank you.

If you want to discuss something else, open a thread for it. You can even copy someone else's post from this thread and reply to it in the thread where it belongs. The Huggins vs Cronin convo is over in this thread. Feel free to take it somewhere else. But this thread is for this season. Posts have already been Reported by members and warnings/bans are coming for those who continue to derail threads. You can discuss any topic you'd like on this site...But if your response has nothing to do with the title of the thread, it needs to go somewhere else.

I've been a member and a reader here for a long time. I never really post but nothing tickles me more than the grammar Nazis and forum correction officers on here :D. Y'all are so funny getting butthurt over the mildest tangent someone might drift off on and acting all corporate when u correct people or refer them to the terms of service. Please remember that this is an online message board for an unpopular team and banning people will only result in the number of daily posts to drop to 9.
