2017-2018 Season

I don't know why you are basing your stats on first half vs last half of season because that wasn't the time frame I was talking about.

Do I think Cronin told him not to shoot at all? Probably not. Do I think Cronin may have placed restrictions on when, where, or why he could shoot 3's? Maybe.

The whole point was I saw Kyle passing up OPEN shots from 3 that he didn't earlier in the year. Many of those were earlier in the clock. You may not have seen it but that's okay.

I just thought for much of the year Kyle had a very good % and I saw him pass up shots that I....and I want to stress I...would have rather seen him shoot based on his %. Sometimes Kyle makes bad decisions from both 2 and 3 when he either wasn't in a set position or when on the block he was double teamed and could have kicked it back out. I believe there was a point in the season where Cronin intimated that he wanted Kyle to kick the ball out more (ala Clark) when it wasn't there...rather than try to shoot every time he got it. I don't know why it would be such a revelation that coach may have done something similar with his 3 shots.

I don't think Kyle ever really fell in love with the 3 any more than he fell in love with shooting the ball from anywhere. He loves to shoot and sometimes he should not. My preference is that Kyle shoots when he is open. Cronin may prefer working the ball a little more to see if we can get a look from inside IDK. It certainly appeared that way in some of the closing games of the season...but who knows...maybe Kyle restricted himself. I just don't think it's as likely (as the coach restricting him) since he loves shooting the ball. But like I said earlier...I could be wrong. Just my opinion and observation.

He only hit 2 3s in the last 12 games in 13 attempts. Just feels to me like he wasn't seeking out the 3 bc he wasn't hitting any of them.

You had no idea if he was even given a message. You were speculating or assuming. You even reference how it was communicated. This is the 1thing I have a issue with.

If you want to sayhe should shoot more so be it.

I want him to shoot when open...That's about it. Unless we are trying to run clock. I have already said several times my thoughts were speculation about Cronin.

Maybe Kyle finally figured out what his role was and should be. I agree with your eyes that Kyle turned down a couple open looks that he didn't at other points in the year, I saw it too. I also remember him being sent to the bench for taking a couple "bad" threes. So you can look at that several ways. Realistically though I think it's more Mick had a gameplan and when you go off on your own and don't stick to the gameplan then you get the bench. And I have no problem with that for the most part.

Basically as I see it, Kyle Washington is your center. He's the best inside scoring threat we've had in Micks tenure by far. This team gets lazy at times and settles for threes. Missed threes, especially ones taken out of the offensive flow, lead to long rebounds that lead to quick points. So with all this in mind, micks gameplan is to work the ball inside out. He wants his bigs to work inside and flash out to set screens, then rotate back in for position. Yes sometimes Clark and Washington find themselves open outside and take the shot. The question is are they open because the offense dictates it or are they open because they're looking for a shot. In my opinion and observations, Kyle was trying latter in many of the cases he took these bad shots (regardless if they go in). When you have a player not sticking to the gameplan and taking shots on his own and creating easy points the other way, then Mick has a problem and should. We saw the same thing with Jenifer last year. Early threes when your teammates aren't in a position to rebound usually lead to transition offense the other way. Micks whole gameplan is to control the controllables and bad offense leading to transition buckets the other way doesn't jive.

So that's my opinion on why players don't and shouldn't shoot threes early in the shot clock. And my guess is Kyle saw enough benchings to learn not to take bad shots. Now we can argue whether or not we like Micks gameplan but he's the coach and it's his way or the highway like it or not.

Have you ever thought he isn't a good shooter? I know his % says he decent but the sample size isn't that much and it looks like it was trending the wrong way. His form is that of a good shooter. Have you ever looked at him shooting a 3 and thought, "that's the shot I want this team to shoot"? I have not

Form doesn't matter to me if the shots go in. As I noted before Kyle made most of his 3s in bigger games and I prefer a confident shooter to a timid shooter almost every time. Some players tense up in big games or on the road but I think Kyle stays pretty loose.

Nobody likes Lonzo Balls shot either...But he makes them.

I don't think Kyle is a 3 point specialist by any means but he made a good percentage of his open shots.

Well that sounds logical!

Wont have to worry about Sumner next year. Verbal Commits has posted that he is leaving for the draft

What!?!? Washington hyperventilated in the first game bc he was so amped. And picked up fouls in big games all the time and said himself that it's bc he was too fired up. That is the exact opposite of being loose.

I was talking in terms of shooting. He's a confident player when others get timid. Perhaps loose is not the right term. He doesn't get scared to shoot

any word on Bluitt? Did Sumnwer hire a agent?

Bluiett is entering without an agent, I think he eventually gets one and leaves. Cant see his stock going up much more if any. But depending on the information they receive at these workouts, Bluiett and Semi play the same position. If one stays, i think the other goes. No idea why i think this

If only one leaves I hope its Semi

I think he will take a step forward. It will be interesting to see how the bigs play with Broone.

Thing about Brooks is he was already in great shape conditioning wise getting on campus last year, but was also the last one to show up due to finishing a class. Because he had to finish that class he missed all summer workouts. Thats when we see all the transformation pictures. I dont think Brooks ever got to do that, even after arriving on campus. So I could see him adding a few LBS of muscle this off season

I agree. I can't wait to see Cumberland after a full year of conditioning. I really believe unless Evans figures out how to get to the foul line more often Cumberland will be the man.
