How’s this manipulative?
First is just plain dumb. Brannen should know these guys talk to each other, you don't spread rumors as a HC.
Second it's manipulative because he's essentially lying to the guy who he's telling it. Hey Mason, sorry you aren't getting many minutes right now. I expect Zach to transfer, so you'll get more next year (just taking a wild guess at the names).
Either
1.) Zach doesn't hear about it and doesn't transfer, he lied to Mason to keep him happy. Mason now doesn't trust him.
2.) Zach doesn't hear about it and transfers. This is the only possible good results.
3.) Zach hears about it, gets pissed and transfers. Now he essentially forced Harvey out and Mason doesn't trust you.
4.) Zach hears about it and doesn't transfer. Now you've lied to Mason and pissed off everyone. Good luck with culture.
The only reason something you say this is if you are 100% sure Harvey is going to transfer. If he has already told the staff and even the other players that is his plan.

The no hats, earrings and so on really stands out to me. Like wtf is that? Sounds like a 1980's rule.
Brannen sounds really out of touch with the times. He needs to sit down with DeJulius, JD, and MAW and just freaking listen to them. And actually listen.

nobody comes off sounding good in the article. but the players at least have the excuse of being young.
brannen clearly got it wrong with covid. he needed to do more as a leader of men. if the guys under you are struggling, it's on you to do something about it. he clearly failed.

That's fine if he lets him know that's a rule during recruiting. Probably not smart as it would eliminate quite a few potential recruits right off the bat. But if your going to stick to that rule, you have to let them know ahead of time and take the guys willing to follow it.
My guess is that's part of the "he lies to us during recruiting" complaints though.

Na, I’m not defending the guy but you need both sides of a story. Who knows if it’s true or if it happened maybe the player interpreted something differently. I guess it’s easier to jump to conclusions when you wanted him gone before any of the transfers.

How many guys need to leave before Brannen gets the blame?
A short list of guys who quit mid-season, transferred out or made it clear they don't like Brannen: Sorolla, Cumberland, Rap, Diarra, Harvey, Mason, Gabe, Saunders and Eason.
Did I miss anyone, it's hard to keep track and it's only year 2? That is not normal, that is nowhere close to normal. Of those guys over half have indicated that they don't like Brannen.
Oh and our strength coach. We have an adult inside the program, siding with the players, saying Brannen is a cancer and quitting. If that doesn't tell you Brannen's a problem I don't know what will.
I didn't want him gone before transfers. I suspected transfer were coming. As the Cincy Slangin podcast said, there was reason to suspect before the end of the season. Guys don't opt out and quit mid season for no reason.
I said if Eason, Mason or JD transferred I'd want Brannen gone. Turns out I should have included Saunders, but he took everyone by surprise.

Out of touch, deceptive and manipulative, they all work. Also every single potential recruit is going to see that article. So if Brannen stays what matters is not what fans thing, but what recruits think.
I don't pay for the article, but by the sound of it, I don't think the article is going to win over a lot of recruits.
