I would like to see his deflection stats because outside of that...he's just staying in front of his man most of the time.

That's not special.

Kevin Johnson's defense is incredibly overrated. It seems every year someone on UC's team has to be proclaimed as a great defender (e.g., Dixon, Bishop, KJ) when really they aren't. KJ is probably slightly above average on defense and that's it. He is slightly below average in every other faucet of the game.

Other than KJ, this is by far the most talented roster UC has had under Cronin. Now I just hope Mick does something with it. The key will be to develop Cumberland and to a lesser extent, Jenifer, to take away KJ's minutes. He is the only weak spot in the starting rotation. If Cumberland can progress and take over KJ's starting role they could be dangerously good. Evans is a flat out stud, easily the second best player behind Jenifer.

Quadri Jordan, err, I mean Moore, is decent if he just knew his role. Unfortunately he doesn't and that's a bummer.

We are still at 25 percent at 3 point shooting. If we can improve that by 10 percent.... we will be damn good!!

Ranked 24th in the country. I get the MNF deal. But less than 50% is unacceptable given this teams talent and expectations.

I was there, but was told to go home by multiple people working the parking garages because of the murder. I almost did go home. Not saying it would have been a big crowd, but that doesn't help either. Unfortunately there just isn't a lot of hype with UC basketball right now. Too many years of being burnt out with hopes of them being really good only to be misled. Then combine it with the cupcakes early on and people just don't want to go. It is what it is.

It also doesn't help that it can be brutal to watch at times. I wasn't able to get there until the 13 minute mark and thought the game had just started because they only had 3 points by then....against Albany.

Ever Notice though how X always seems to start games like 14-5.. Ever think its because they feed off the crowd? This game had no music during player intro (i guess it malfunctioned) and then a completely silent crowd.

Finally at the end, we got mildly loud. Im just disappointed in UC fans. We have one of the cheapest teams to go see and people still would rather watch at home..

Ironically I think this can hurt attendance against weak teams. Tickets are so cheap it's very easy to not go to the games. When you have vested interest you make sure you go to them. I know I'm this way with my season tickets. Granted I'd go to every game if I could but with seats being so cheap I don't worry about it when I can't go.

UC really has had a rough go of it over the past decade. It'll get better as the program improves. And by mid-year the attendance is always good, and when they play good teams there is no better place than the Shoe with UC fans.

From what I saw tonight and the first game I'm inclined to think Evans and Washington are going to be huge for us. I think Troy will be huge when he has to... that's when He's the greatest. Clark will be as solid as can be but will perhaps be overshadowed a bit because he's not aggressive.

If we are thin on talent at the big...we may go Jenifer or Cumberland rather than Moore or Scott or Brooks.

Can we stop talking about attendance and the comparison to X? By years end, we only average approx 600-900 less per game. Crappier arena and an inferior product (currently) causes this. But you all blow this completely
out of proportion. New arena, better product = sellouts in the new shoe and we will put this stupid comparison to bed

Amen

With Jennifer in the game, we outscored Albany 54-30. With him out of the game Albany outscored us 21-20.

Chuck Machock - "I have to give the Star of the Game to Justin Jennifer."

Mick Cronin - "Justin Jennifer turned this game around with his defense."

Someone earlier tonight posted that Jennifer should get 10 minutes a game. What a joke! You guys can continue to be in denial, but I told you that you would eat your words this season and all I have to say is....how is it tasting? Jennifer won't be anywhere near 10 minutes a game. He might have that much before halftime. He'll be big for us this season. He would have been big last season, but Mick decided to play mind games with him.

Washington looks very good. Cumberland looks like a high IQ player. He's surprising me in a very pleasant way. The chemistry looks good. 2nd half was a joy to watch. 1st half was all on the refs. I like this team a lot. I criticize Mick for his recruiting a lot, but with Cane Broome coming next season, this looks like we're poised for a 3 year run that could turn this program around and raise the bar. I'm cautiously optimistic. This weekend will tell us a lot!

First time I've been impressed with Jenifer. He was CLEARLY better than Kevin Johnson. I don't know if KJ is still sick or something but Jenifer is going to significantly eat into his minutes if he doesn't pick it up.

I mean Jenifer looks great so far but the best player on the team, joke right?

I've got some news for you - and this is going to really sting, but it's the truth - JJ's success on the court this season is BECAUSE of Mick Cronin, not despite him. Mick got him to see that he needs to play like a point guard; pass first, dictate tempo, etc. Last year, JJ had too much playground in his game. He shot too early and often, tried for the spectacular play rather than the fundamental. This year he's night and day different and he's playing great! It's amazing the transformation he's made - on the defensive end too. I think our strength coach deserves a lot of credit also - JJ is in terrific shape and you can already see a difference in his stamina.

JJ also deserves a lot of credit for being coachable. I'm sure he was really frustrated about his lack of playing time last year, but he has listened to coach about what he needed to do to improve his game and he's greatly improved in those areas.

The flip side is Quadri who also has talent, but he still doesn't get it. He shoots too many horrible shots and doesn't play within the flow of the game. At this point, I wonder if he ever will.

The second half was really fun to watch. Albany is a decent team who went into the second half last night believing they could get the upset and we stole their heart with that run fueled by our defense. JJ, Evans, Troy and Kyle were magnificent during that stretch.

So far, so good.

Go Cats!

Can any team that starts Kevin Johnson and plays Quadri Moore be taken seriously? We have to be able to do better!

THIS.

I said last night I didn't think it was possible to hate on player as much as Shaq Thomas (who I still believe is the worst 4yr player ever under Cronin). KJ however is slowly becoming that person.... he will miss 7 straight shots, hit 1 finally, then pump his chest like making shots is his norm. Not sure why he starts or better yet, what he has done to make Cronin see positive things in him

Quadri Moore is just laughable. The amount time I am spending writing this comment about him should be the same time he spends on the floor.

Cumberland > KJ AND Scott > Moore.

I'm really not sure why you think it's always "us versus you", and that you're the only one with a specific opinion. Have you ever considered that the majority of us like Jenifer, and think he's going to succeed here? I really don't get why you think that we all think he's hot garbage. Sure, everyone has had their doubts with him, but the "how is that tasting?" comment is one of the goofiest things you've ever posted (which is saying something). Buddy, we ALL want to see all our players succeed. Nobody is rooting against Jenifer. We're not like "Aw, man, L-T got us! Jenifer has been great. I was really hoping he'd suck just so L-T would be wrong. That's unfortunate."

You'd also think his biggest supporter could spell his name right....

the difference is; X Fans show up every night to every game. The fact that UC is so much bigger then X means we should be the one with better attendance and better fans. And last year, X averaged an over capacity sell out. If they were in our sized arena, they'd sell that out too.

It's absolutely the fans fault. Their hung up on bob Huggins and refuse to go to games. This new arena should have shrunk 8000, it's the only way we could a decent showing every night. Just frustrating when we have season tickets for 120$ and no shows up. It's a Cincinnati basketball fan problem not a early season basketball problem

Once conference play kicks in, we generally get at minimum 9500 or 10k every game, probably averaging 11k. I really do find it odd that fans seem to have basically zero interest in the November/December easy part of the schedule. I get wanting to see a better opponent, but the difference in attendance between a non-conference cupcake vs a conference cupcake is staggering. Hell, Albany is a better team than the whole bottom half of our conference.
