Idk if it's that galmorous unless there is a huge pay increase. Cronin has been waiting for the new arena, so why leave right before he gets to re-open it? Plus, just look around that league. Gottfried just failed, Stallings is having a tough time at Pitt, Pastner is trying to build at GT (that ceiling is only so high). Cronin would have a few years of implementing what he wants just to catch up with those schools, plus he'd be behind schools like VA Tech, Wake Forest, and even Clemson right off the bat. And that's before even mentioning the Virginia, Louisville, Duke, and UNC's of the world. Not sure he'd be willing to jump into that mess with what he has built over time at UC.
Jake not saying he would leave just saying he would be foolish not to listen. The NC state job is a good job in a great basketball conference.

Jake I'm sure he also hoped we would land in a P5 conference. A fan base with high expectations and always having to find the under the radar recruit can not be a easy thing to deal with. I see your point big fish in small pond or little fish in big pond. Landing in a bigger conference has to be huge. You can pay your staff better ( he could afford his top recruiter who left for Oregon), bigger budget, I'm sure he would have a plane, Never been to NCST but I would imagine facilities are very good. Top competition in the top league. Without P5 affiliation his job will only get tougher going forward. right now he is on a roll. Coming up on 300 wins, a streak of tourney appearances. Couple all that with the fact UCONN is going trying to bolt to the Big east. I really think he has to listen if offered.

Why would NCST want Mick? He is trending the wrong way, cannot win on the road against top 25 teams, doesn't develop players, can't coach offense, can't recruit, can't get to more than 1 PPP down the stretch

Anyway, I don't think it will be Archie Miller. I think he could be considered for OSU or even Indiana when Tom Crean is inevitably fired.

But that said, things are going to get very interesting soon. 2 High profile jobs will open soon (Indiana and OSU) and then a good ACC job in NC State is open.

You'd have to wonder if Josh Pastner's short term success at Georgia Tech might propel him into a position like NC State..

I mean recruiting at Georgia Tech has to be tough.. You Jerseys are made by Riddell or something.

Is NC State really a good job anymore?

The ACC has become very crowded with excellent teams, and you are at best 3rd choice in your own state. You are never going to be better than Duke or North Carolina. Ceiling for the program is slightly better than .500 in league and a NCAA birth? Maybe a 20-25 ranking? This position is one where the expectations of the fan base are completely out of line with the reality of the conference. Take the job and your likely gone in 5 years.

In reality what UC is this year, is basically the best NC State could ever become. Where as UC could looks to the likes of Gonzaga, and say even in the American they could do that.

really think you are underselling NCST. In last 4 years they have 2 sweet 16 and two second round exits. They also have a national title that is not in the early 60's.

I did notice that NC state was only paying their coach 700k a year. So Im not sure if its just because of his qualifications or if they don't want to spend a lot on a coach.

Either way, they'd have to triple that number to get a real quality coach in

I believe that Archie and his wife both went to NCST. Why is Goodman so adamant that he is not going to look
Pat, Archie is on a list I just saw on fox. Speculation is he will wait for the TOSU job. he was a assit. Coach there from 2007-09. Mick was not on the list of candidates.

AND they still fired their coach... What will mick bring to their table.

Their fans are delusional. They have a good history but think they should be on the level of Duke and UNC. Last time around, I remember reading their message boards and a lot of them were convinced they should be able to pull Billy Donavan from Florida.

He's close to the situation. It's probably not just random speculation. It's not a secret that he's interested in Ohio State and there is a chance Matta resigns because of his back issues.

With the ability to recruit as a P5 member maybe quite a bit or more of the same.

Like when we were in the big east, arguably the best bb conference at the time. I don't think conference affiliation helped mick that much.

Edit: I'm not saying he hasnt been progressing or having a good year. Just that he wasn't being in the five stars when we were in a major conference.

He was mentioned as someone NCST would contact in the article I read. It also said he would probably hold out for TOSU.

Gotcha. I base my opinion off comments Chad made on here awhile back.

You worry too much about P5 + BE in regards to college basketball. How has P5 worked out for the programs at LSU, Boston College, Colorado, Rutgers TCU, and Depaul? Would any coach take a position at those schools over UC? The answer is no. Simply put, these schools would take to long to turn around before they get fired.

Coaches look for positions where they will have the chance to succeed, and thankfully UC is one of the better positioned universities to provide that. New arena, established brand, consistent performance, a large fan base, and most importantly, reasonable expectations.

This is exactly why the NCST job isn't all that great.

While overall the situation may look better in regards to conference and history. If it isn't realistic to achieve the goals of the fans, you are going to be fired in 4-5 years min.

You couldn't be more wrong. P5 affiliation is huge. But your certainly entitled to your opinion. Have a nice day.

I gave you 6 teams. Please explain to me how any of those P5 + BE are a better job than Cincinnati.

If you are going to make claims, back it up.
