still trying to get my head wrapped around this.

So the school accepts a deal from a company like Addias to have the kids wear their apparel. A assistant coach who is out recruiting gives money to the kids to entice them to join their program from this company. The player has not committed to anyone or is part of the NCAA until signing this scholarship. By taking money he may have forfeited his amateur status but what law has been broken? Where does the FBI come in? Giving a player 50,000 dollars to sign is a crime how?

Bc it's a bribe. And you can't shuffle hundreds of thousands of dollars around and try to keep it off the books. That's money laundering.

can Calipari and his crew be far behind?

Oh pretty please!! How much fun would that be? KY and UL losing their coaches in the same year and both getting the book thrown at them? UC would likely benefit in fan base in N KY. Not to mention Matta.

I'm okay with getting some new fair weather fans...the die hards will always be there but attendance wise we need all the help we can get in our region with NCAA teams like UL, KY, X, OSU, IU, UD, etc. Not to mention having to fight for pro sports fans like Reds, Bengals, Pacers, Cavs, Browns etc. Some sports fans just want to go where things are happening now.

If we can put up a good year we can gain some fan momentum. Maybe we can steal just a few northern Kentucky UL fans this year. Some fair weather fans become die hards in the end.

Gross. I don't want those people rooting for our team. BBN is the worst. Imagine those fair-weather people posting on here and expecting us to be doing the same crap their programs do. No thanks!

I am shocked to hear Louisville was involved in this. They only hire the finest coaches with the highest integrity. On the plus side for Pitino, at least he has skills as a pimp to earn a days wage

Welcome to White Collar crime!

Wire Fraud:

The federal government financially supports both public and private universities (financial student aid, grants and tax breaks.) This plus the transfer of state lines is the nexus needed to attach most of these federal crimes. Basically, coaches' salaries are partly subsidized through the federal tax dollars.

Fraud is when you deprive one of these organizations of something through deception. The Feds allege the Universities were deprived of "their intangible right to their employees' honest services."

Mail Fraud:

Same as above except they mailed some ****.

Bribery:

Any individual associated with a federally supported organization intending to be influenced or rewarded in connection with such business or agency involving any thing of value of $5,000 or more is breaking the law.

Conspiracy:

Charges above get a second concurrent charge for an agreement between two or more persons to engage jointly in an unlawful or criminal act (i.e. predicate offenses).

Also money laundering and tax dodging.

Pitino was not high character, or high quality, or anything else and his track record speaks for itself. Mick is 100% wrong! Mick is connected to Pitino and will defend and stick by him which is admirable, but the relationship between these two is not ideal for our University.

Only time will tell how many colleges coaches around the country are involved in illegal activities. It's about time we raise the standard of the individual being afforded the opportunity to earn a free college scholarship. I think of all the individuals who have given the opportunity and many appreciate and take advantage, but then you get the individuals with low moral and academic qualifications and character. I am in favor of raising the standard and truly putting the "student" back in the student athlete.

Thanks for the info.

I disagree. The more fan support the better for the program. You gotta take every chance to turn a non fan into a casual fan or fair weather fan into a die hard if you want to sell out the arena or get better TV market share to sell for realignment.

We aren't in a position to turn away potential fans IMO.

We won't have trouble selling games out if the new arena enhances the experience, and we continue to win a ton of games. Those fans expect the team to be dirty. They happily look the other way. Not interested in that garbage infiltrating our fan base. Hard pass.

Coach-2 according to ESPN is Pitino. He is said to be the coach who funneled 100,000 to Brian Bowen. Not looking good for the teflon coach.

The hard core fans aren't switching so that isn't a concern. The fair weather variety are the one's we can take advantage of from an attendance and revenue standpoint. There are idiots in any fan base...including our own. If we can switch some casual fans over, either temporary or permanent, it is what we want to do IMO.

Perhaps we can get some closet UC fans out of their house because we are playing better or have a new arena on the way. Perhaps we can also get John Doe father who would rather travel from N. KY (with his kids) to UL to watch a team that is/was higher ranked or has a better fan experience etc. Either way they are fair weather fans.

Even 500 fans per night at home would be a pretty good bump from something like this. What casual fan wants to go watch a team on probation with no real post season chances? Whether or not they turn out to be die hard fans is immaterial IMO.

Just saw this. I can see why Pitino was "totally shocked" totally shocked he was caught. If this is true, I do not know how UL does not get the death penalty. This is ridiculous and a total loss of institutional control. Could not have happened to a better school...

Yah...this doesn't seem like a "where there is smoke there is fire" type of thing. This seems more like a "where there is scum there is a bag" type of thing.
