I really don't agree with anything this guy is saying. 5 offensive rebounds a game?! 3 dunks?! 10 deflections!?! I know a goal is just a goal, but those numbers are absurd. The fact that he's inferring that Mick should limit his offensive instincts by telling him what not to do on the floor makes zero sense to me. You want this guy to think even more during an offensive set?! Shaq has the talent of an NBA guy, he just lacks the confidence right now. Once he gets into the alpha dog role, which I strongly believe he will, we will see the Creighton game Shaq. He'll turn the corner. Some players just take a little bit longer than we all want. People should not give up on this guy. The man's ceiling is ridiculously high.

I love your enthusiasm but its time to either put up or shut up. Make it happen or don't. Simple as that.

Potential has been used to describe a lot of athletes. There was a guy up the street from me selling a '69 Camaro. I thought about buying it and actually drove it on three different occasions. Pretty as it was it just never felt right driving it. So far that has been Shaq for me. I love the thought of what he could mean to the team, but he just never can sell me he ever will realize it.

Please describe your idea of NBA talent. Mick wants him to play within the framework of the team. Something he has not been able just to do for going on 4 years in program. I want him to excel just like you but I'm afraid it's not going to happen. Hope I'm wrong.

If we aren't at the point now where others start eating into Shaq's minutes, then do we ever reach that point?

2 games in?

2 years and 2 games in...I'm just so down on him. I don't remember ever feeling this hopeless about any UC player. I really root for the guy, but man it's been rough. I think we need to try something else. Running him out there as a starter game after game isn't working.

Yeah, maybe Shaq will be more comfortable coming off the bench.

Sounds like you could be talking about Justin Jackson.

Every year is different and every team is different. I might be inclined to agree with you if the majority of the team was back from the previous year. That's not the case here. With all the new players, I am not so quick to say that if Shaq hasn't lost minutes he isn't going to. Shaq will have a chance but the leash is short IMO.

Fair enough. I'm trying to stay patient...

I hate when people bring up the Creighton game. They played absolutley no defense. When we put the ball on the floor they stood by and let you dribble past them. The reason he flourished and looked great in that game is they did nothing to stop him. 95% or our opponents will throw a guy on him when he puts the ball on the floor and a high percentage will rotate someone over to help on defense when a player puts the ball on the floor. Shaq is soft and loses his dribble when you don't move out of his way for him. And as far as the alpha dog role, that is something you a. are born with and b. take for yourself when the opportunity presents itself. He doesn't possess this. Alpha dog's don't grow into being alpha dog's. You said it yourself he lacks confidence. Alpha dog's don't lack confidence.

The rest of your post I agree with, those two comments just stuck out to me.

EDIT: so I read the article and realize he was the one that brought up Creighton game Shaq. He even provided video highlights. Half the highlights were of the Creighton game and all but one you can see where the creighton plays stood on their heels and were watching us. Shaq did have a nice fade away in traffic right around the free throw line where the defender actually defended the shot. No other highlights did the defenders leave their feet.

Ha, well that's true. That makes me feel a little better. But just a little.

Don't worry too much about individuals on this team outside of Ellis and Cauapin, IMO. I think those two guys will be consistently good, the rest of the team will come and go throughout the season.

Creighton is consistently ranked in the 100's in defensive efficiency. They simply had no one on the wing that could match up with him athletically.

Well that is my point with the Creighton game. I take nothing away from what Shaq did but its foolish to expect him or anybody to look that good against teams that actually defend you.

If you watch that highlight reel, the first shot he makes he dribbles in to the player and the defender moves backwards playing on his heels and Shaq pulls up with the defender two feet off him and he doesnt even react to the shot going up. I know it's been two and a half years since the game but that is about how I remember that game going. That and McDermott just making every shot from every angle with defenders seemingly hanging on him. McDermott is the anti-Shaq. Slow, not terribly athletic, tough and will light you up from anywhere on the floor.

I am watching Temple vs UNLV game going on right now, holy crap Temple's head coach Fran looks rough. He has a really creepy moustache too. Good thing I don't have to see him on a regular basis.

Temple seems to have decent size this year. They will be a tough win for sure.

Temple disappointing in the Barclays Center this weekend, blown out by Duke (expected) and then lost to UNLV tonight in a very ugly game.
