A reminder that this is solely based on rankings within the AP Poll. Which does not mean anything about winning conference titles or tournament success.

Also of notes, http://sports.usatoday.com/ncaa/salaries/mens-basketball/coach/

Cronin was the 21st highest paid coach this year.

I really am not trying to start fights about the programs state of being nor about our coach. Just posting articles regarding UC hoops. Let's try and keep this civil please?

Also, I don't think Gregg Marshall is leaving Wichita State anytime soon with that pay. That's crazy for a program of that size. He deserves it, though.

I was just curious what people think. I think people view the program in very different lights and interested. If we are just talking the AP poll, that explains why we are on there

Yeah, but this list isn't

And neither is this one........

In fact, almost all lists I've seen over the years have included UC somewhere in their Top 25. Many had us in the their Top 15 before the Mick era started and some have dropped us down a little in recent years. I'd say that an all time compilation of where a program has sat in the polls is also a VERY good indicator of the type of success a program has achieved.

Winners win and losers make excuses. Luckily for us the facts bear out that our program is made up of a lot more wins than our fanbase.

Never settle people.

It's funny that you mention the modern world and our apparel brand in the same post. Is there a more modern, forward thinking, creative brand than UA?

Sorry got busy with work and forgot to check on this thread.

The Jordan brand comment was referring to a former player (Logan or Stokes?) saying that if he was the coach the first thing he would do is get Jordan brand back for recruiting (I am not sure if this really has an effect). I was just pointing out there is a significant difference in times. Jordan brand I believe only works with 3-4 schools currently, and as you can guess, none are mid-majors.

Georgetown and Marquette don't seem to be benefitting a whole lot these days from being Jordan brand. UA is growing every year in terms of number of schools they represent. And is definitely not a main point imo if you're arguing why we aren't elite.

I would say this year we played like a top 21 school so it would seem justified for him to be the 21st highest paid coach.

Think that was actual James White. atleast he said the same thing on twitter a few months back

I am not disagreeing with your assessment that UC is a great program historically. I was simply saying this #10 ranking all-time is solely based off of AP rankings.

Historically UC is a great program. Top tier. We haven't won a National Championship in 55 years. Haven't made a Final Four in 25 years. We are historically a great program.

Modern times we are not great in those terms, obviously. We are not a bottom tier, "mid-major" program either. We are a top-10 program all time, no doubt. In the last 25 years, I'd say anywhere between 15-25. We are going in the right direction these last few seasons with getting closer to that top 10 all time number.

We were definitely peaking when we got Jordan. At that time we were unquestionably a top 10 program and had a lot of swagger. We had one of the strongest identities of any program. Remember Fortson on the cover of Sports Illustrarted when we started the season at number 1? We are a long way from that I am afraid.

Pretty impressive. Regardless of the measures to come up with the ranking, UC and Mick need to market it like crazy to sell recruits on the fact that UC is one of the greatest programs of all time.

I agree. The 90s were special for our program. We had talent, were ranked in the top 10 most of the late 90s, we got a lot of attention, and we were one of the most feared teams in the country. Unfortunately, those days are over. I still love the program and think it's going in the right direction but don't know if we get back to that.

I am arguing that this isn't 1990.

I am not arguing that UC can't be or isn't already Elite. As a fan base, we just need to have a perspective that isn't constantly judging on a past model.

I would suggest UC has built an excellent program, and would be considered a top 25 program. Elite is hard to define, but success is not. I feel the team is poised to constantly have success every year, make the NCAA tournament, and has the talent to make the occasional run. I would also suggest that 30 wins is a pretty elite team, and I am excited about what the future brings.

However, to think that somehow UC is going to recruit with the likes of UK and UNC in this decade, I find that insane. Gonzaga, who is arguably the best mid-major, struggles to get recruiting classes much better than UC. So if we are defining Elite by the talent coming in, no UC is not going to be it.

Also if Elite is being defined by magazine covers and national talk show coverage, I think Gonzaga has proved this year that success doesn't get you this. ESPN rarely spoke about Gonzaga and they were number 1 for pretty much the entire season. However, I am pretty sure ESPN pounded into everyone's head the next big game for UK, or the next UNC/Duke game.

In short, don't expect the 90s to come back. This doesn't mean UC isn't an elite program in today's world.

What is elite about Uc in today's world? Not trying to start anything, just curious

Fresno State and Oakland University (both Jordan brand schools) definitely aren't mid-majors. Get a grip man, who cares about uniforms? Every school is sponsored by a big time apparel company and we have a great contract with UA that pays us a lot of money.

Almost every list that has come out of top programs over the years has UC listed in it's Top 25, many in their Top 15. UC fans should be proud of this and expect this level of success from their program.

It's less about the actual uniforms and more about the connections made from that brand's AAU circuit. I think Chad has mentioned it before but guys who play in the Nike and Adidas leagues likely will go to schools with connections to that brand.
