Gonzaga was excellent this year. Were they not good enough to deserve coverage? Because they surely didn't get it.

I would say College Basketball is still big, but has moved to a regional sport instead of a national. I would view it similar to MLB or NHL.
It not as big as it once was. I agree, it's very similiar to baseball.
Also I heard a ton of people talking about gonzaga. They are a west coast team though and west coast teams usually get less coverage, do to the time they play

Gonzaga was an undefeated number 1 for most of the year, and you would be hard pressed to hear about them nationally. UCLA also got plenty of coverage on the West Coast, but yes West Coast teams in general get less coverage.

If UC was going undefeated in the American, do you really think they would have gotten different treatment than Gonzaga? I unfortunately do not. Also, I think they would use ******** like top 50 rpi wins to diminish the schools achievements.

I disagre that gonzaga didn't get coverage. I seen plenty. They didn't get as much as the big programs but The big programs always get more. That's the world. That's why you get Yankees/ Red Sox on tv every other day. More people care about those teams. if we were undefeated I do think we would have got talked about more. Honestly tho, we were a 6 seed that got beat the first weekend again. That's not front page news

We are setting the bar at undefeated to get national coverage. Think about that.

My friend your making a argument some don't want to hear. Fact is we are at a growing competitive disadvantage. To think otherwise is foolish. I do agree with those posting that winning the conference and winning the conference tourney are very doable and achievable. The NCAA is another matter. We had a very good year not a great year because we finished second in both. We ended up a 6 seed playing a UCLA team that was better then ours. We failed to pull off a upset. End of story.

Trying to get to elite status or stay there whichever view you have is going to be very difficult in todays college game. The subject has been beat to death. In my opinion Mick gets very good results under very difficult circumstances. Not great but very good. The program was on life support when Mick got here and is now trending up and has been for awhile. It took awhile and will be a very challenging job to keep it there. I guess we could roll the dice and attempt to find someone who could move the needle a bit faster but I do not subscribe to that idea. Without being in a P5 league it will be very challenging to keep our historical status. Its all about money and we at this time are on the outside looking in. That said, we still have a very nice program that we can all be proud of and cheer for. Don't let a few people on here spoil your experience.

Think about what? I'm the one saying we aren't elite. But if we win more, and beat more meaningful teams, people will talk about us. If we beat Rhode Island and duke, we would have been on people's radar atleast. We didn't. We got 2nd in the AAC and the conference tourney and lost the first weekend again. What do you want people to talk about? Us beating Tulane?

I don't think anyone is talking competitive disadvantage. More coverage disparity. And 346 out of the 351 teams have to deal with this. Hell, ESPN threw Michigan State to the curb in 1 second once they started losing games this year. And do you ever hear about Louisville or Arizona outside of the general talking points? ESPN isn't a P5 issue. It's a blue bloods vs everyone else issue imo. We still get our games on their network, so do a lot of teams. But with limited coverage for the sport outside of live games (partially bc of the NFL being a year-round sport), we only get a couple bullet points. And those are dedicated in the regular season to the schools with one and dones and maybe the undefeated storyline. The majority of P5 schools are right there with us in this regard.

I agree. Yeah, it's not a great situation, but I still love the program and if we win people will notice. We have to start with winning something though. Regular season wins are great but college basketball has moved away from caring about that. Is that fair? No, but that's where we are

Agree, if you watch ESPN for college basketball coverage you're going to the wrong place. ESPN is 80% football, 15% nba, 5 % everything else. If you listen to shows or podcasts, About college basketball they talk about everyone. Mostly the big programs but they do talk about others

Here's a question, what does any of this ESPN, uniform, conspiracy theory bullcrap have to do with the fact that our program is consistently ranked as a top 25 program of all time?

Don't let the excuse guys distract your from the facts. It is a fact that almost any list you look at of the top college basketball programs of all time includes UC somewhere in their Top 25.

As a fan of UC you should all be proud of the fact that our program ranks in such high esteem and you should have expectations for our program that it lives up to that billing. Don't let the excuse guys feed you all the reasons why you should feel sorry for our little program that could, just demand excellence and accountability and you'll get it.

Agree, just win

All of that was in reference to being an "Elite" program, something you have ranted on Mick not having before.

I think anyone on these boards would agree that UC is a top 25 program, and no one is arguing against that. But if you want a straw man, you can always create it.

Your very first post to this thread was arguing that we shouldn't hold ourselves to a standard we achieved in the past. You seem very confused and conflicted with your arguments and points.

Jake isn't it all tied together. Think of what our program could do with their budgets. Ask yourself why we didn't get into the Big 12. Who was against expansion and why. I only make the point because it is a unfair to judge our current coach on results that happened years ago and under very different circumstances. When you say we should dominate our league I agree with you. But maintaining our national reputation will be difficult without the networks and playing in the AAC. I want to play after the first weekend as bad as anyone but where we are as a program makes that very difficult. Difficult not impossible.

The money from ESPN/Fox/whoever is valid. Exposure-wise, we aren't at a disadvantage compared to 97% of D1 teams. That's the only point I'm making right now. I could list all the P5 teams that don't register with anyone nationally, but I'm guessing you get the point.

What if I told you... that people have different definitions of Elite, and that some people base theirs in the modern world versus 25 years ago.

Crazy thought right?

No, that's actually the first lucid thought I've seen you contribute to this thread.

When you're out there saying we're not elite because we don't have Jordan brand and saying they only work with elite programs despite the facts. Or making claims saying Gonzaga gets no coverage when half their games were broadcast nationally on ESPN you're just spreading misinformation and stating it as fact.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion of what defines "Elite". I'm going to say that being a historical top 25 program out of over 300 programs qualifies as "Elite" in my mind.

It seems to me though that from your very first post your goal is to try to debunk the notion that we're highly successful and we should hold ourselves to a higher standard, why would a UC fan do that?? Seems odd to me. In order to bolster your argument you've thrown out a few false claims dressed as facts which also seems odd. Keep doing you though and I'll keep correcting you when you slip up.

The irony here is astounding. So, he's the one saying we're not a highly successful program, yet your signature is literally railing the coach that has been at the helm for 11 years now, and anyone that supports him? Incredible.

We've made 20 Tournaments since 25 years ago. 4 Sweet 16s, 2 Elite 8s, won 7 Conference Tournaments, 10 Regular Season Conference Titles, and had 4 1st team All-Americans....................................................................................................
