JJ and KJ played well tonight. Clark was defensive poy last year. I agree about your last two comments.

I don't think KJ is aggressive enough he plays timid he stands around he's a senior he needs to be a leader and he doesn't act like one on the court and never has so nothings changed there and JJ I just don't like his game he drives and gets mugged to the floor every time he tries to drive he's too short it's good to dribble penetrate but I kick it back out to the open shooter something don't sit there and get trampled every time you drive, but he did make a couple jump shots that looked decent

Honestly though, you may want to give Cronin some credit for how he has managed JJ.

He made him work hard and earn his spot on the team. He built him back up and he may end up being much much better for it.

Im just giving you shit, I doubted JJ last year, but I also never doubted him on what he could become. Im still a Troy fan.

If JJ turns out to be a star and it means you were right, ill take it

....and I'm just giving you all shit as well. How can I give Cronin credit if his methods may have contributed to the major disappointment that last season became. That's a high price to pay for making him a player this year. I believe there was a better way, that would have benefited last year's team, as well as motivate him to work hard and improve for this season. Don't ask me what he should have done. The only thing I can say is that there had to be something better than yanking him for a single mistake and burying him on the bench for the remainder of every game....and turning him into a player that was a shell of the player that he was at the beginning of the season.

You guys are going to have a hard time accepting the fact that I recognized his talent before the coach did. That's going to eat at you all year! Lol!

Most of the fans in here recognized his talent. What a lot of fans were worried about were his turnover rate, shot selection and D. Spotting talent is easy... getting them to be the most effective for the team is not.

Whatever happened sure looks good to me so far. JJ had a real nice game.

If you want to, we can revisit last year's posts and see how many posters were recognizing his talent. I think you'll find that your statement is wrong. There were even some a few days ago that were still not recognizing it. I'm also sure that when he has a bad game, the meltdown will occur again, just like last year.

Even I melted down on him eventually last year. He was unrecognizable by the end of the season.

You're kidding right? Everyone who knows anything about basketball knows that one of the major negatives about playing zone is that it negatively impacts rebounding because you don't have an assigned man to box out. Please explain how playing zone would have neutralized their rebounding.

You are completely making an assumption when you imply that Caupain and Clark were uninterested. If they were uninterested, then they should be riding the bench against Brown. Evidently, the coach didn't feel Troy was playing uninterested. He played him 39 minutes. This forum will make every excuse possible for Troy. Maybe he just played poorly. I don't think a player who has such lofty expectations and is a senior, whose team hasn't accomplished jack during his career, would ever allow himself to be disinterested. If he was, then he's not the player you all claim he is.

Playing man to man last night pulled our bigs out to the perimeter away from the basket - thereby taking them out of rebounding position. In a zone, we would have had Kyle and Gary closer to the basket and they would have been more effective on the boards against a team that didn't have a player over 6'-6". I think that's inherently obvious.

Also, when I say Troy was disinterested and Gary was going through the motions - that's intended to be a criticism of them; not an excuse for their poor performance.

Simmer down - it's a long season.

JJ looked nice, good to see, because we'll need him to give us another dimension. Like the idea of him and the 1 and Troy off the ball if he can keep this up. If he can play like he did today our best lineup is prob him and Troy in the backcourt.

Quad can score the ball when he gets a chance, hes going to be the most frustrating player on this team all year. I bet he leads us in scoring a few games and the next game he will look totaly lost

Scott is athletic and will be nice in the press and as a rim protector this year but I dont expect much else from him, raw.

Cumberland was completely lost on D tonight, it was funny to watch. That being said hes got good instincts and is athletic and that led him to a couple steals. He has to learn to not get lost in rotations and he'll be fine. Im going to hate watching his shot, his form is awful, but if it goes in I dont care.

Sad Brooks didn't play. Thats on Mick, I get that its not a good matchup but who cares he needs some experience and its an exhibition.

KJ is still KJ. At this point just hit shots and play D as best as you can. I hope he starts to lose minutes to Cumberland, but he wont till Cumberland learns to play Better team D.

Washington looked awful. My big complaint was his D as well, poor rotations which needs to be cleaned up sooner rather than later. He's forcing it a bit so Ill judge him in 5 games when hes settled in a bit.

It was pretty obvious Troy and Gary were checked out for this game, annoying because youd like to see upperclassman setting the tone but again, whatever its a exhibition. If they dont turn it on for Brown then Ill start to worry.

As a side note, this board is getting harder and harder to read. The no one in their right mind would believe that JJ>Troy. Now this isnt saying that I dont think JJ is a good player and Im not saying I dont want him to succeed and become good, because as I said above hed be in my starting line up if he can play like that. But to deny that Troy (The preseason POY) is better than him or shouldnt be starting because of JJ is delusional. If that offends some people Im sorry for that but all youre doing is trolling, which takes away from people who come here to actually talk about the team.

Go Bearcats

I guess I'll respond that your last paragraph is trolling as well, since much of what you've said, has never been said by me, if I am the one you're directing your comment to. You're assuming and posting something different than what was actually said. and not only that, you're bringing out the Troll card. I think that is the definition of trolling in itself.

Again, if our bigger guys were pulled away from the basket, we still had a size and athleticism advantage at the other positions and still should have destroyed them on the boards. No basketball person would ever claim that playing zone would have made us rebound better. Quadri got 8 rebounds. He seemed to be able to guard the perimeter and still rebound. I think you over-stating the fact that guarding the perimeter is why we didn't rebound. That is not what I saw at all. If you guard the perimeter and then don't box your man out, you don't get the rebound. Zone wouldn't have changed that.

He was recruited as a very good ball handler and passer. I don't know many fans who didn't recognize his talent in those areas. Even Troy recognized it last year.

You are confusing what most of the fans questioned when it came to Jenifer. Coach told him to slow it down and let the game come to him. Those are words out of Jenifer's mouth. So far so good.

There were fans last year (probably you) that said pulling in the reigns a little would take his aggressiveness away and put his talents in a cage. It doesn't appear that way.

Maybe everyone was right... including you. Maybe he needed to dial it back AND get more time.

I guess what I should say is KJ had a good game by KJ standards. He played well defensively and made a few shots. That's all he's going to be really.

I think Troy played poorly. I don't expect that to be a sign of things to come...lol.

It's one exhibition. He's played 3 full years for us.

L-T comes in here and starts making JJ and TC comparisons after an exhibition game and has the audacity to ask that fans don't go overboard when JJ has a bad game...nice!

So, other posters can say that JJ can't carry Troy's jockstrap, claim that once the cupcakes are done, we won't see much of JJ again....these all within the last few days, and then we play an actual game and JJ is playing his butt off, and people are chalking Troy's performance up to him being over-confident, disinterested, or trying not to get injured...give me a freaking break. Let's get the order of things correct. Many shots have already been fired against JJ, actual results occur, I state those results, and I'm the one accused of having the audacity to gloat a little. Get real WH. JJ was thoroughly trashed on this site all last season, as was I for promoting him, and it's continued into this season up to the moment that Mick suddenly revealed that he is the most improved player on the team. I have never said Troy should be benched in favor of JJ. I have said that JJ is a true point guard, and Troy is not. I have said that the competition for playing time should be between JJ, KJ, Cumberland, etc. I have said Troy is a good player. He sucked last night. Nobody will argue that. Last night, Troy couldn't carry JJ's jockstrap. That is a fact. The audacity is on your part if you believe I would react in any other way after what I endured last year (and what JJ endured in here). Paybacks are hell WH.

The "we don't play as hard when we are ranked or picked to win the league" BS needs to end now.

Exactly my feelings Jacob. It's every year. It's complete bullsh*t. The only year we handled success was SK's senior season. No excuses this year, especially from what we have heard from the players. But as always, actions speak louder than words.

I think you missed my point L-T. I just thought it was a bit hypocritical to come in here after a single exhibition and sing his praises and at the same time ask others to not to get on him when he has a bad game.

You can't have your cake and eat it too. I'm rooting for JJ to keep it up. It will be a very good season if he does.

Except that it is not just one game. He was very good in the intrasquad scrimmage. He was really good at Indiana State, and he was exceptional last night. And, per the head coach's own words, he's evidently been really good at the practices as well....i.e...most improved!

Also, for the record, what about my post on Monday night and Monday afternoon that Troy should play 40 minutes a game, implies that I think JJ should play ahead of Troy as everyone keeps accusing me of? The last time I looked, if a player plays 40 minutes a game, that means he never comes out. That is my stance. I do think that if we don't get JJ up to around 20 minutes a game, we might be making a mistake. He's looking pretty damn good all of a sudden. As long as Mick doesn't break him down again, he may be a big boost to this team.

The overreactions are out in full force. There was really only one important take away that I saw from the game. That was our reserves looked like they belonged. Loved Scott's energy, Quadri looked vastly improved, and Justin looked like he could be the 6th man. The improvement for JJ and Quad can not be overstated. The game looks like it has slowed down so much for them. My big concern was depth. This was a very positive development. The ragging on Troy, Gary, Jacob, Kyle, Kevin, and the coaching is just pointless. Mick said in his post game he specifically ran a defense so we would have to chase them around and get work in and Nysier didnt play because they didnt have a guy over 6'6 and everyone from Bellarmine was playing on the perimeter. It was a practice. I know what im getting out of our vets but I am really excited about the way our three questionable backups looked. JJ looked like a kid who could start which does wonders for our depth because we can move Troy over to the wing. Encouraging first game in my opinion.
