This whole thing is pathetic. Don't get me wrong I'll be so pumped if get in the Big 12, but if we don't I'll just be happy its done with and we can move on honestly. Maybe if this was two months ago I would be hurt, but after all this back and fourth who cares. We will always be good in basketball, football needs to figure it out. We will prevail.

I hate to keep being this guy but what back and forth are you talking about??

People in the media and on twitter and message boards are going to speculate, it's the nature of the stories like this. It's fun to talk about all the possible scenarios that could play out and for some reason everyone always feels this irresistible urge to be the guy who says I told you so when it's over. Public opinion has swayed to the point where most feel expansion is unlikely at this point, but that's just public opinion and none of that opinion is based in fact.

The Big 12 has made no official statements, no University President has spoken out to say expansion won't happen. The only official line the Big 12 has ever held is that they will discuss and likely take a vote on expansion on October 17th. They did a final review of their applicants and shortened the list and nothing more has taken place since.

Go back to the day it was announced that expansion would be considered, two hours before it was announced that expansion would be looked at most every media member who covers the Big 12 announced that expansion was officially dead. These guys don't have a clue what they're talking about, it's all just speculation. Their speculation may be based on info from people "closer" to the programs than most but it's still speculation none the less. These guys all trip over each other to be the one who gets the scoop and can come back later and say I told you so. It's a coin flip for them either way and if they're wrong they'll just say their sources gave them bad info and they'll move on to the next story.

Don't let the media or twitter or message boards get you down. Their is a meeting on the 17th and I expect we'll know more facts after that meeting takes place.

It is pretty ridiculous to think the local media would not have an idea of what is going on with a story of this size. I am sorry, but acting like nobody but the presidents know anything is just putting your head in the sand.

Expansion isn't happening right now, we need to accept that.

I do feel like the last couple rounds of expansion, things were leaked a few days prior to the official announcements. But I cannot confirm. Regardless, let's just get this over with.

Why, because some guy on Twitter named Greg said so? Or because Brett McMurphy said so? Or because the dude of WV told you?

This will be my last comment of this nature because this is the type of discussion that can just go on and on and on until the B12 makes an annoucement. Go ahead and believe what you want, it's very likely at this point that the B12 doesn't expand, it's also highly likely they will. There's a 50/50 chance the folks speculating will be right either way, crazy how that works out right?

I'll leave you with a few more thoughts/questions.........

I repeat again, back on the day expansion vetting was announced, a mere 1 or 2 hours before that announcement, twitter was abuzz with all the "media insiders" saying that expansion was officially dead to rights. These were "confirmed reports" from "respected" members of the media.

How could anyone possibly know at this point what's going to happen with expansion when the University Presidents have yet to vote on it? The answer is they don't, not even the Presidents know how the vote or discussion will play out yet because it hasn't happened.

Gordon Gee came out yesterday and said he is still very optimistic on expansion and looking forward to the meeting on the 17th. Why are so many people so quick to write off expansion based on some twitter egg's fake reports but no one seems to focus on the words coming directly out of the mouths of those with the power to make this decision?

I saw the same thing from Gee. No one has a clue. We will once the results of the meeting on Oct 17 are announced. Of course expansion could be pushed further back...

I'm sorry but i think it's hilarious all these people believing every single word they read about this. Oh apparently Dave boren said expansion isn't going to happen, even though he came out and said he didn't say that.. Blah blah. I'm sure we all remember as fans when Brian kelly wasn't ever leaving Cincy, he loved it here and so on. That's all the talk was about before he left, you can't believe what all these random guys say especially with all the contradicting reports. Let's stop speculating and wait paitiently like grown ups.

I read the story from Gee too, funny how not one person has brought that story up, lot of negative Nancy's on this board. Claiming to be the biggest fans but simultaneously rooting against there so called "team"

Can someone explain to me what the process was when UC got into the Big East? I was 10 years old at the time and remember being extremely excited about it but clearly I don't remember logistics of the situation.

To be honest with you I don't really remember. The Big East had just lost Boston College, Miami and Virginia Tech to the ACC and needed to expand. I think it was a fairly easy decision for them to decide on bringing in Louisville, Rutgers and UC for football and expanding the basketball conference. It certainly wasn't covered with the same media ferocity that things are today but it was also a different time free from twitter and 24 hour news cycles.

I do remember the announcement that tore the Big East apart and it came out of nowhere. Without any hint that it might happen I remember watching College Game Day on a Saturday morning when the breaking news came across the ticker that Syracuse and Pittsburgh were headed to the ACC.

When the Big 10 announced Maryland and Rutgers it was kind of the same thing, done quietly and behind the scenes for the most part.

The Big 12 doesn't really have that luxury though, as a conference with 10 teams who has recently lost schools to other P5's they are under the microscope. The speculation has been there for a long time and was there before the Big 12 ever formally announced they were considering expansion. All things considered I think the conference has actually handled themselves well during this process. It's taking much longer than most of us would like or prefer but the conference itself has been very tight lipped about their progress. They can't stop the media and twitter from speculating about every detail of what they're doing but they've kept any official information from leaking out to this point and that's a good thing.

I personally don't think expansion will be decided this coming Monday but I think by the end of the day we'll have some official information from the Big 12 to digest about where we go from there. I find it much more likely that they announce discussions will continue with a resolution expected by the end of the year than we'll hear expansion has been decided one way or the other.

Yeah I have a hard time believing any invites will be coming on Monday or next week. It sounds like they are still in the discussion faze of the process. The only fact in the process that I find telling is the conference openly accepted bids for expansion and even publically eliminated some teams. To me, why go through that if you're not strongly leaning towards expansion? I'm hoping some positive news comes after Mondays meetings, but I never got the impression Monday was any sort of final decision day one way or the other. With that said I obviously know nothing one way or the other and nothing would shock me.

On the Football Four podcast, George Schroeder said he leans 51/49 towards the Big XII adding 2 teams. But he fully admitted, and as others on here have said, no one can really know for sure at this point bc in some cases the school presidents themselves don't yet know which side they're on.

I won't be shocked either way. I could easily see expansion not happening at this point. I think any news on Monday other than expansion is dead is good news for us fans. This concept can be killed much quicker than it can be put together and as long as they don't announce that expansion is off I'll remain optimistic.

Breaking: Big 12 expansion decision may be tabled — perhaps until after Christmas.

Well it's a lot like Christmas Eve right now. Big day tomorrow, I know the consensus there won't be any real decisions tomorrow. But there will be some news that is for sure, hopefully a little clarification on all the rumors and talk lately. Would really love to here an actual confirmed direction from the conference. Well here's to hoping we hear something.
