After the Pat Kelsey fiasco today Shumate is probably back in play for NKU. Hurts Brannen's staff if Shumate gets the job now.
What happened to Kelsey?

Kelsey did not back out. He wanted the job and was prepared to accept. The AD held a grudge against him because Kelsey declined an interview 3 or 4 years ago when Brannen has hired - electing to stay with his Winthrop team that he took to the tournament that following year. Saying that this is the 3rd time he backed out of a job is a false statement (politely). He never backed out of the NKU job as it was not formally offered to him. If you are referring to the UMASS job as him "backing out," please know he did so because prior to the press conference announcing him as the coach, he was approached by multiple players asking when they would get their money. He smelled something very fishy going on there and backed out of the job. Unfortunately in this day and age, it's the honest people that take the fall when they do the right thing. No clue. Multiple credible college basketball sources all posted around the same time that Kelsey had formally accepted the NKU job. Then this evening he backed out I guess. This is I believe the 3rd time he has done this to a program.

Just trying to set the record straight because he gets a bad reputation for the UMASS situation even though he was the one doing right.

I am getting concerned over Brannon's staff---it is really dragging out --it should not be taking this long, unless several coaches have turned down offers.
Might end up being a stop gap year
