Brannen's Possible Staff

How crappy was Cronin on the recruiting trail when he produced back to back AAC players of the years? Or Sean kilpatrick? Or Jacob Evans who got drafted ? Or trot caupain on a two way deal.

If Brannen has a better 5 year span than that then I’ll be impressed. But let’s not down play Cronin’s recruiting when the results are easy to look up.

Who is better in 5 years ? UCLA or UC ? Who lands a 5 star first ? Mick or Brannen.

I mean. All this blame going to Cronin just really sets the expectations to what I believe to be unachieable

Answer: pretty crappy. Great, he has had conference POY's, but it take more than one player a year to be really good. Again, he had one freaking recruit coming in for 2019 and that was a fringe 150 player who was only coming here because of a coaching change at XU. His previous classes have sucked.

As for who is better in 5 years? That's tough, UCLA has all the resources in the world, Mick won't be able to make the excuses like he did here (and I mean like all the time). If Mick changes his philosophy he'll be successful there, but if not he'll be looking for a job in a few years. He wouldn't change here. Not sure about Brannen, but I'm excited to see.

ps - shouldn't you be in Destin now soaking up some well needed vitamin D? Enjoy life. It's short.

He had one guy recruited because they were only going to have two open scholarships--Broome and Jenifer's. Jesus how oblivious are you?

One guy took up two scholarships? Damn, he must have been really good. Nevermind then. His previous class consisted of #322 Gilliam, #264 Hardnett, #192 Johnson, and Fredricks. Ponder that for a moment. We can keep going back to previous classes if you want? He's averaged less than one top 150 recruit per year.

And yet despite his supposed ineptitude he's averaged almost 27 wins over the last 9 years, made the tournament annually, pretty much always kept them ranked top 25, developed his players, put several guys in the NBA with possibly another to come, etc.etc. at a mid major program.

You're unbelievable. Listening to your stupid ass you'd think Cronin was completely incompetent. Did it ever occur to you that (1) maybe the rankings don't exactly mean all that much, and (2) UC isn't the easiest place to recruit to? John Brannen seems to be having an awfully tough time, as evidenced by his losing out on recruits thus far to veritable college basketball powerhouses Kansas State and Western Kentucky while a very close-knit and talented team that was already in place disintegrates before our eyes.

Hopefully someday for your own sake you give up the mental gymnastics, acknowledge that now that you've got your wish and Cronin's gone the program's a complete disaster and you look like a total fool, and preserve whatever shred of dignity you've got left.

I'm still trying to figure out how Semari was able to take up two scholarships?

"several" NBA players. Ha. He has one player making somewhat of an impact for an NBA team. Clark and Evans may, who knows, but so far Evans has been disastrous, and Clark hasn't done anything. And this is after 13 years and that's what you point to?

27 wins in a shit conference. Last years team doesn't make the tourny in a good conference. He has had one team that had a legitimate shot to make a final 4 and Mick pissed his pants and blew the largest lead in NCAA tourny history.

Keep crying over there you poor little kid.

Who's crying? If you think the Cronin era was such a disaster what the hell are you going to do when it's year 4 or 5 of the Brannen era, they finally win 20 games for the first time (in their "shitty conference") but get bounced in the AAC semis and get left out of the tournament for the 4th or 5th straight year?

Rhetorical question: you're going to bitch about the mediocrity and demand a coaching change, the University is probably going to see things the same way, and we're right back to square one. Hopefully by then you'll have pulled your head out of your ass and will be able to see just how good things have actually been under Cronin.

its called the transfer portal every program tries to leave at least one open for it. your trying way to hard

Who's crying?

Uh, that would be you. Heed your own advice and stop giving a shit.

That's not a question, genius.

Either way Dan, tell Mick I said hi.

Rankings tend to matter. You blindly give me 5 top 50 players, I'll blindly give you 5 players from 50-500, who do you think wins?

Those guys were great players. Way too far and few in between. Recruiting has been hugely disappointing under Cronin.

They had way too many needs to be holding out a scholarship for someone that will have to sit out a year. Plus if you could get a really good player you don't hold out for a potential unknown transfer. But that's a moot point because they couldn't get another really good player.

This is hilarious considering Brannen just signed his first recruit........... an unrated and unranked prospect who was previously committed to wright state.

Is this the upgrade you were talking about lol

Don't even try to reason with him. He's clueless.

You’re really going to be this guy huh? The guy that consistently talks about mick and how things were better. Great

Mick haters constantly told us that Mick sucked at recruiting and we can do much better.

Should we not compare the new coaching staff with the old one we were told sucks at recruiting? Should we not expect better?

Probably shouldn’t expect better in the first 4 weeks when the majority of the top recruits have been long gone.

But since when does making a genuine argument matter.

Yeah you should compare them...right away...compare micks 13 years of classes with John’s 1st guy he got, after taking the job in April. His 4 weeks on the job and recruiting is obviously directly comparable to micks 13 years. Please stop. You are embarrassing yourself.

Also love the “mick haters” moniker. Nice. It’s seems a small part of this fan base will always be just dumb.

Have to give the guy time. Mick had 15 years. JB has been here 1 month. But yeah, it’s the same.

Also, wether you were a mick hater or lover, who cares. It’s over. People can’t wait to say “I told you so”. Does that make you feel better? If he fails, which he could, would that make you feel better? I don’t understand it

This

Once the games start I’ll give CJB all the support and a chance to succeed before judging any more.

But until then, I’m going to compare him to mick because I was promised that we could do so much better, that mick recruited duds and so on. So my expectations are through the damn roof, so I’m holding Brannen to them
