The defense has been great. But lets be real, is Miami's previous two games they only had converted 3 third downs (or something like that). Miami's offense is nothing to be over joyous of stopping.

So no positive comments? You can't even compliment our D? That's my point.

You have to point to how other teams have played them than make a positive comment about a SHUTOUT????

Can you read. I clearly said the defense has played great. As great as they played, Miami's offense is down right terrible. We should shut them out. Northwestern State's offense is better than Miami lol Please come down to reality.

OK sorry. I didn't read too well. I am just frustrated with all the negative comments

My bad bro

Its all good brother. I mean there were some negatives in this game. Doesn't mean we are bad fans. Luckily we were playing Miami. We did play well and played tough for sure. It was good to see UC players keep their composure. At the end of the day I am happy we won. :D

Defense has held them scoreless. Eh..whatever!!

Yep, they played well.

I agree mostly with your comments. Early in the season of the first year of this coaching staff. And Kay clearly isn't the same player as he was at the end of last year, probably due to the shoulder issue. If he isn't awful, missing guys left and right, UC woulda scored a lot more and no one would be complaining about the coaching staff.

Now that's the kind of stuff I can get behind!!

I agree. I thought at some point seeing Bennie was a clear possibility.

I think in our heads we were thinking 45 points. We maye have been thinking 45 to 14 or so. Well we didn't get 45 points but we sure as hell did a good defensive job holding them to 0.

My only point was that there was no comments on this thread about playing great D only horrible O. I think that sucks big time. If all a fan has to do is to complian...how do we get recruits?

Can't blame Kay, it is only his second game. We have been spoiled the past few years with Zach Collaros, Tony Pike, etc. filling in for injured guys and playing well. QBs take a few weeks to get into rhythm, especially considering how much time Kay missed in pre-season. He seems to have the intangibles that Munchie lacked. Even when he played bad today, we still got the win. At the end of the day, a win is a win and a loss is a loss. Also, I hate when people compare scores. ND almost lost to Purdue and we killed Purdue, does that mean we would kill ND? No, it only matters if you win or lose. The coaching staff has been a little disappointing so far, but it is also their first year with mostly players they didn't recruit.

Just to point out.."Miami entered the game ranked last nationally (123rd) in both total offense and total offense."

We should have shut them out. Our defense played really well! But at the same time I expect our d to play that good. Especially when its going against that.

If we win all games by 1 pt from here on out we will be in a BCS game. I don't care how we get there...just do it. It could come by defensive shutout or offensive jugernaut (which we have done both)...just do it.

It's intersiting then that other teams haven't shut them out but we did.

I was at the game and there was a pretty stiff wind most of the game. I'm sure that had something to do with some of the passes looking so bad. I'm hoping at least because Kay looked horrible. And our O-line got embarassed today. I think our center getting hurt to start the year is really affecting the O-line. It seems he was letting alot by him today. It only takes one weak link in the line to get exploited. Running the ball up the middle has been a serious problem all year. I'm glad we punched that ball in finally, I was dreading if we had to try another field goal. At the end of the day a win is a win. The defense played great. Miami's play calling was horrible. Twice in the first half with the ball in UC territory and 3rd and more than 10 they ran the QB. At that point I don't know how you don't throw the ball down the field line and if it gets picked its the same as a punt. Instead they easily got stopped, punted and gave us the ball at the 20 both times. If you're going to beat a team that clearly outmatches you at least try to score the ball. Also going for it on 4th and 26...really? All game long they played field position and on a 4th and 26 you get aggressive? As bad as UC played, Miami really didn't do anything to win that game. Their defense played well, but it seemed more our offense making mistakes was the factor than them just beating us. We could've played ten quarters and I don't see them scoring on us. Bottom line, we escaped with a win. They have to play better going into conference play, because South Florida, Rutgers, Temple and UConn would've beaten us the way we played today. Louisville would've destroyed us. We got a lot of work to do if we want to win the conference. We can't play so horrible on the road and Kay needs to shore up his downfield passing. If Tuberville had absolutely any confidence in Coney he would've been in there today. We will live and die on Kay's arm and the "strength" of our O-line.

waterhead, I love your optimism, but if you aren't concerned by now, you're living in the clouds. A team that gets blown out by Illinois and goes scoreless for 3 quarters against one of the worst teams in the FBS is going to have a hard time not getting their doors blown off against Rutgers, let alone Louisville. Not saying they can't still run the table in the AAC if they get things figured out, but I haven't seen the team look this poor since Butch's first year.

No I don't have my head in the clouds nor am I in "la la land". It's early in the season and we have a new coaching staff. I expect a few bumps and that is a completely rational way to look at things. You mention Jones' first year as an example and I would also point to that as a perfect argument as to why we shouldn't be going ape shyt over some poor games early on. He turned out to be a pretty good coach...or at least TN and some other high D1 teams thought so.

We have played two good games and two poor games.

I look at yesterday's game and I saw a lot of penalties and mistakes as well as a QB who missed a BUNCH of open guys. If he is making good throws we win that game by 4 TD's...which would still not be a great game but more acceptable. Our D played great. Could the coaches have called a better game? Absolutely!

I look at ILL game and again we had a lot of mistakes and penalties that buried us early on. Not to mention a TD re-call that has been confirmed was the wrong call. That play created a 14 point swing (when it was still a game) because they went on to score. We also created a fumble on that insuing ILL drive which should have been called back. We had all the momentum leading up to those situations. We looked like we were going to come back and win. Then shortly after Munchie went down and the wheels completely fell off (understandably so). The final score doesn't tell the whole story at all. We did have a poor defensive performance and we definitely started off behind the 8 ball because we must not have been well prepared.

While I can recognize poor play I try to take the whole picture into consideration before going ape shyt. Call that "head in the clouds" call it "la la land" callit whatever you want? I call it being objective.

Anyone look at the box score? Miami had 87 yards total offense with four first downs. Ouch.

We put up 369 yards. Turnovers obviously killed us. We seem to have a problem sustaining long drives which explains why we put up yards but not points. I blame our passing game. Most of our completed passes are at the line of scrimmage or short passes over the middle. We get nothing from 10+ yards. Kay has to be able to hit receivers and our play calling needs to be more aggressive with opening the field.
