Just watched DePaul beat Providence. Most of knew that DePaul would get someone in the league just glad it wasn't us.

It's clear that UC should be able to rebound against a less than physical Friars team. I think the frontcourt could have a very solid game.

The key will be to limit their dribble penetration, Bishop handling Brooks and to take advantage of their defensive lapses.

Will Providence go into the tank after the DePaul loss or will they show up Saturday pissed off and ready to go?

^ All good food for thought.

We should handle them if we show up and play like last night. If not, it'll be a dog fight and we could see our bubble burst.

This is an essential game if we want to make the Dance. We don't have any gimmes left, but this appears to be the most winnable game.

We need to handle our business. Let's see if the Seniors step up and challenge everyone to bring the intensity.

Idk what to expect Saturday. Providence has some nice wins at home, in Nova and Louisville. Some very close games with pitt and gtown.

FWIW, I want Mick to use all of his timeouts. Kill the momentum at every turn.

Ville made a run and cut our lead to 5 in the second half, then we took a timeout. 30 seconds later, a TV timeout. We took another timeout not too long after that... It essentially helped crush their little run and we got back in control.

UC 63-59. Go Cats.

I'd be really surprised if it goes this low scoring. Providence is probably the worst defensive team in the BE. I'm a little scared of the matchup because Providence seems to score on everybody, but they may be headed in the tank for the end of this season.

I'll take UC 75-67

My only concern is UC gets caught up taking quick shots. If they are lay ups it's one thing. If it's quick threes it could be trouble. Providences style of play can draw a team into that. UC will have a big physical advantage. Guard the rim with hands up and don't put them at the line!! Bishop/Brooks will be a major key. Don't let him go off for 40 like he did at Gtown. UC should win this one. 75-67 is my call.

It will definitely be important that UC dictate tempo and pick and choose their spots to get out on the break and run. I thought they did a good job of that against UofL... they ran when they had the opportunity but if it wasn't there they pulled it back out and ran offense.

If Yancy plays defense like he did against UofL, UC will be fine. His interior presence really wreaked havoc on the UofL offense.

I think we will also see a lot of switching on screens. If last night is an indicator, Providence's offenseive philosophy is the first open shot is the best shot.

UC has always lost this sort of game in the Cronin era. Lets see if the trend changes tomorrow night

PC 73
UC 68

Is one of their starters out due to suspension? And if so, was he out against Depaul?

I really wish they wouldn't have lost to Depaul. It could mean they're reeling, but it could serve as a wake-up too. I believe heading into that game they were 13-2 at home, so the likelyhood for them going into these two and losing both was slim. It really shouldn't matter though I guess. We have more to play for and the better team.

UC-71
Providence-70

I just hope we play our game like we did against UL. Attack and be aggressive. Do NOT getting into a scoring contest with these guys, and do not get back to 25+ 3's, or we'll likely lose.

I'll be curious to see what they come out and look like. The fact I even have to wonder is what is concerning this late in the year. But let's hope they build off of Weds.

I was thinking the same thing. UC is the better team and should win, Providence appears to be a better team at home. With the most recent loss to Depaul, that could be a wake up call or it could just be the game to send them into "next season" mode. Either way, it's a big game, but I see UC winning this. Especially if they play the way they did against Louisville.

Gerard Coleman was suspended for the UConn game but did play 25 minutes last night coming in off the bench.

Looks like Providence plays their five main guys a lot of minutes. Press them like crazy.

Never miss a chnace to take a shot do you?

Is this necessary? Especially from a mod?

Nothing he said was incorrect. Look at USF last year, Depaul two years ago. I think they beat PU this year but who can blame someone from being worried about this game? Whether you like it or not Cronin's teams have typically struggled on the road and especially late in the season. Hopefully this year is different.

What Jeff said was the first thing that popped in my head when I read it. I'm glad he typed something about it. I just didn't feel like getting into it again at the time. I guess I am now getting suckered in.

what bodes well for UC is that the game vs Louisville they played a top 15 squad extremely hard and won. Had they lost i would be scared of Providence, and i know no game is a gimme, but they will hopefully understand if they play hard all game they will make the tournament and i think some noise too. for the first time i think the players finally understood what a sense of urgency meant. I see a new Uc team, If they can beat Louisville they can beat anyone. If they come with fire, it will be a UC win.

After all the bitching back and forth in the other threads I don't see why someone, especially a mod, can't focus on the post, not the poster. It wasn't an attack on Cronin, it was a realistic statement based on past history.

I think it completely matters who says things. Certain people have a reputation for trying to stir things up. You are free to have your opinion on this and I don't think either of us will change our minds but I can tell you that I read it the exact same way that Jeff did.
