Everything I'm hoping for is based on competing with other AAC/G5 programs. We have it better than pretty much all on that level. Nothing working against us isn't also working against them.

My hope was for inclusion in t he P5 conference. Heck that is what they sold to the donors. Like you I want to win where ever we are but I want to be in the best conference.

We would all love UC to be in a P5 conference, and that may still happen SOMEDAY. But until that happens (if ever) UC just needs to work toward being the best they can be under the current conditions.

If being the best they can be is the goal......is keeping TT the best way to reach that goal?

Sure, keeping him now means saving 1/2 a million dollars over getting rid of him after next year, or the year after....but at what cost? Does anyone really believe that the team will win 9-10 games next year and the year after that, under TT? Because if they can't do that, then won't we be looking at getting rid of him at the end of next year? The buyout will drop from 1.5 to 1 million from this year to next. In the meantime they will lose a lot more than that 500K in reduced ticket sales, UC memberships, parking, concessions, and advertising revenue.

We have heard many people saying that they are not going to renew their season tickets if TT is back, and I have never heard that from a UC ticket holder since Minter's last year. And I am talking long-time season ticket holders, not just people that bought tickets because UC suddenly got good. When you start losing your long term customers, who are brand loyal, you really have a problem on your hands.

This is the year to hire. We're a very attractive job. Get a guy who wants to build and put himself in a situation for a big P5 job. That's the thing about "steppingstone" where we are...there's only 1 more step to take. And as NTS mentioned, Houston is better than many P5. We could be right there too.

If UC swings and misses on their top targets. Anybody like the idea of Mark Helfrich? Was a vital part of Chip Kelley's dominance at Oregon. Had a tough year but man did he have some big time wins as the Ducks head coach. Brilliant offensive mind. Universally liked. Probably an enormous long shot anyway but I just thought his personality might work in Cincinnati.

I don't think we have the speed on offense for him to consider Cincy. Oregon is obviously a very up tempo offense, and they draw in a lot of fast athletes from Cali. Idk if our geographic in recruiting would work out well for him.

There arent fast kids in Ohio? That's new.

Local to UC there is not much speed, GCL does not produce many scary fast athletes. Compared to the speed of the West Coast offenses, the style of offense played in Ohio is much slower. The individual speed of the recruits is not the problem, it's the playing style they grew up with and learned to play in.

This is assuming he would try to bring the same style of offense from Oregon and incorporate it here in Cincy. Very few schools/teams can pull off the style of offense that Oregon has played with throughout the years, just ask Chip Kelly.

While I agree that the current roster at UC did not exhibit much overall speed this last couple of years, I would not say that the rosters under Kelly and others was similarly lacking speed. There are plenty of kids in sourrounding areas, and within the GCL, that play uptempo styles and could adjust to college if given the chance. All you have to do is look about 100 miles away in several directions to see other colleges that aren't showing any problem with playing uptempo styles of offense and showing plenty of speed on the defensive side of the roster.

Houston is the best non-P5 job and is better than many P5 jobs. I'm not surprised that they'd land a top candidate (possibly better than someone like Purdue).

ya i dont know about all that uc is right up there with them houston doesnt automatically become the best because they were good a few years. no doubt i understand why people would say houston but i think people under appreciate how good a job uc is i think its houston cinci and everyone else. TT being here didnt change that

I think it is important to get a person that is able to recruit the area well immediately. I don't think anyone is de-committing from Oregon to come to Cincinnati, to follow a Head Coach.

Any coach that we hire will have a minimal impact on the upcoming class. It's shot either way. So I could care less about that. You think if Luke Fickell gets the job some OSU recruits will flip to Cincy? No shot in hell. I want the best coach for the future of the program. I think Helfrich is an interesting candidate if we swing and miss on our top targets. Helped build Oregon. Went to a national championship. Won a Pac 12 championship. Dynamic offensive coach. Reputation as a great person off the field. Has to win in the AAC not the Pac 12. Don't think it's the best fit but certainly an interesting one. He'd be probably 5th or 6th on my list. However if we are left with our dicks in the wind and Helfrich is available I could stomach it. As for the recruiting ties I would be okay with giving Coombs the keys to the defense as DC. His recruiting alone would make it a gamble I'd be willing to take. So pair Helfrich with Coombs or whoever the head coach is with Coombs and I think that fresh influx will be a positive thing for the program.

I want a coach that already has relationships with local schools/people. Yes, I think some OSU players would flip. Not the 5 star guys, but some of the lesser guys. That argument is irrelevant though. My point is, I don't want a guy that has to start from the ground up. This isn't the NFL. Different regions are different animals.

There's literally nothing out there to make me think we're going to be moving on from Tubs.
