Cobb vs Johnson

I don't think it makes any difference who starts. It's all about who gets the minutes and who plays better. Those performing will get the minutes that includes playing defense. Will Jenifer win the starting point guard job as a freshman? If so, Troy will most likely be the #2 guard, Clark will be 4, Ellis 5. So who will be 3? Cronin wants Troy out of the point guard spot (I believe).I suspect Johnson or a taller player will win that job, however in the end, I think many players will get substantial minutes and make contributions. Those more consistent will get the knod in playing time. That's how I see it.

It's these 5 starting know if And or buts about it!
Caupain
Cobb
Thomas
Clark
Ellis

I think regardless of who starts, Johnson and Cobb will both average the same amount of minutes. I think the rotation will change through out the year

You bring up an interesting point. I think they averaged about the same last year until Cobb started playing with the starters. I think he ended somewhere around 25 minutes and KJ 20 or so. The question will be is Jenifer ready to backup Caupain. If so...almost all of Cobbs minutes will be at the 2. If Evans steals any minutes from the 2...something has to give unless they all steal time from the 3 and play some small ball.

I think it does matter who starts and not just who gets starter minutes and last year was a prime example. Cobb sat the first 5 minutes of each half most of the season until the end. That was due to him being the primary back up for Caupain. When he played along side Caupain we were a better team imo. The more weapons you can put on the floor at the same time the harder it is on the defense. If you put one or two stars on the floor with second teamers...the D can put most of their focus on stopping 1 or 2 guys as opposed to stopping 4 of them at the same time.

I can't wait to see how much Cronin learned by watching someone else coach his team! I think it will prove to be invaluable.

I only have to major worries about this team and one of them is the same every year. ..avoid major injury. The other one I think could be as dramatic is that other teams know how excitable Ellis is and he will be a target all year. If Ellis can keep his composure and we avoid injury. ..in think we are in for one hell of a fun season! !

It doesn't matter who starts. Mick wants to get Troy out of the point. He's not a point guard, he's a 2. I suspect if Jenifer is as advertised, he may start or get alot of playing time at point. My guess is we will see a lot of Jenifer. He was the most highly recruited of all freshman this year. We desperately need someone that can penetrate from the perimeter and that's Jenifer. Someone who can breakdown the defense whether it be zone or man. It doesn't matter who starts.

I don't see a Jenifer/TC backcourt happening very often, if at all. I don't really see Evans playing the 2 at all either.

Troy is a point guard. Has always been a point guard. Will always be a point guard...

This, anyone who suggests he's a 2, doesn't really watch or know the game. TC is a PG always has been, and if he wants a shot at a professional career it's at PG. It's not that complicated with our players of who plays what position. May see a Cobb at PG on occasion out of necessity or situationally but it breaks down quite easily..

PG- TC/JJ
SG-FC/KJ
SF- ST/JE
PF-GC/TS/QM
C-OE/CD.

Troy's one of my favorite players but he doesn't break defenders down enough to be called a pure point so in my eyes he's a combo.

I know the game and I watch every home game and nearly every road game on TV. Troy is my favorite player too, but he is not a point guard. That's one reason Mick spent so much time recruiting Jenifer. I can assure all of you that Jenifer is as advertised, he will be getting significant time at point. He can breakdown defenses with his quickness and is a good outside shooter. According to 24/7 sports, Jenifer was recruited by Georgetown, Memphis, Miami, Florida, Penn State, Rutgers, USF, Depaul, Florida, Indiana, Louisville, Michigan, Syracuse, Tennessee, Villanova and Xavier. Jenifer is a really good player. If he can get over his freshman status and play in a mature way, take care of the ball and earn Mick's trust, we will have a serious point guard for 4 years.

I think we will learn a lot about jenifer in those first 2 exhibition matches. I bought Season and keep counting down to those games.
