Cobb vs Johnson

I think we will learn a lot about jenifer in those first 2 exhibition matches. I bought Season and keep counting down to those games.

good for you. I can't wait either. It's really had to watch a game on TV. Most of the time, we get shots of the ball handler or receiver and not the entire team and it's play either on defense or offense. So therefore, going to the game always gives one a better viewpoint. Without question.

I don't think the chances are very likely of Caupain moving to the 2 guard but IMO that's where he would be most effective provided we have a legitimate PG to take his place.

Last year I felt TC played better off the ball, penetrated better from the wing, was our most accurate 3 pt shooter, and was the best at entry passes to the post from the wing. All of that screams 2 guard to me.

I think the arrival of Jenifer will allow Cronin to experiment a little more with how we can get Troy the ball. Since we also have Cobb (who can play either position)...I feel like we can put Jenifer and Caupain on the floor together.

I agree that I think Caupain is more a 2 guard who can run the point but ultimately he is a 2 guard. I'd love to see him shoot more. Also I feel his pace is a bit slow as a point, and with a 30 second shot clock, were gonna need to up the intensity so Jenifer may see some time.

Of course, this is all in theory. Running the point as a fresman and being 5'10 is already enough pressure to put on someone. If he handles it well, then we could see more rotations at the point but if not, he could just see minutes when the game is coming to close and were up 20 (when are we ever up 20 haha, but up 10 for UC equals 20 to other teams)

Troy Caupain is and always has been our point guard. Cobb brought the ball up last year at times because we did not have a backup point guard. He'll continue to start at point this year. There will be times when Jenifer is running point with Caupain and either Cobb or KJ on the floor if we need a 3.

Excited to see the different possibilities we can put on the floor together this year.

The "It doesn't matter who starts but who finishes" has to be the most overused line in sports. It absolutely matters who starts.

Hopefully Jenifer is a stud but I have a incredibly hard time seeing a short PG that isn't a 5* recruit starting as a freshman. He most likely will have a big learning curve, but hopefully he can at least provide adequate backup of Caupain.

Cobb is a shooting guard or 2 not a point either. That was part of the problem last year, we had no real point guard to speak of. Troy is more of a slasher to me. He's not an exceptional outside shooter, good, but not the guy you want shooting for 20 feet.

I agree. I'd be surprised if Jenifer averages more than single digits in minutes, especially with a good number of tough early match-ups in the non-conference. In fact I'd be less surprised if he were asked to redshirt than I would be if he started. I wouldn't be surprised to see him not get off the bench some games. That's not a knock on him, but as you said his size and being a freshman are two big minuses. We have 80 minutes between Caupain, Cobb and KJ. Jenifer will have to steal minutes from them. Mick will go with the guys he trusts and those three got all the minutes last year once Mormon flamed out. There's no need to put in an unknown commodity if you trust the other three. I just think it will be hard for him to see the court against good competition with the game in the balance. With that said if he comes into practice and his play demands minutes he will get them. But I'm not counting on that and I doubt Mick is.

PG under 6ft always seem come up big in March

Evans and jenifer might be better than KJ now

Go read his uc bio

Jerry Meyer never scouted him in high school. I did. I talk to his parents regularly. He played PG 100% of the time in high school. He did split time on and off the ball in AAU because he was playing with Kansas starting PG Frank Mason. I watched them play multiple times, and it was a 2 PG system with whoever was closest to the ball bringing it up. Anything else you would like me to educate you on tonight???

Remember last year when Troy wasn't in the game the offense bogged down when Cobb ran point? I do. Troy is the point guard.

Just because Troy is taller and doesn't look as pretty with the ball as Cobb doesn't mean he's not the point.

Found this on BCN (which I think came from media day)...

t’s encouraging that Mick recognizes the need for a better performance on the perimeter. The trio of DeBerry, Ellis, and Gary Clark were dominated down low but Cincinnati’s guards struggled at times knocking down the three ball. They were decent from beyond the arc, shooting 32.9%, but definitely the weaker area of the team. It sounds like the coaches are going to let true freshman Justin Jenifer push Troy Caupain at point guard this season in an attempt to give the Bearcats more pop on the outside.[/I]

I think many of us would LOVE to see this happen sooner than later

Am I misreading it? What does that even mean? Why wouldn't they let Jenifer push TC at PG?

I'd be interested to see how they do if/when Jenifer and Cobb are in the game together. That would be a very small (but quick) backcourt.

I doubt you are misreading but perhaps you may have missed the point I thought was interesting. It's not that they would like to see Jenifer compete and eat into Troy's time on the court at PG...but rather to be afforded the option to move Troy off the ball.

There has been a discussion in here about whether Troy would be more effective as a 1 or a 2...and whether or not the coaches would entertain Troy being a 2. Some have said...not a chance. However, if that excerpt is true, it looks like they would not only consider it...but are possibly hoping that it happens.

They are not looking to move Troy off the ball. Not sure how much more clear I can be on the topic than that. He's the point guard...

I tracked down the original comments (I think). I wanted to find out why someone would have gotten that impression. I watched the video of Cronin which I believe the comments were based off of.

After watching it I am not sure how that impression was given to the source that I quoted. Cronin said Troy was getting worn down last year and that having Jenifer help push the ball will hopefully help keep Troy fresh.

The comment wasn't about pushing Caupain...it was about keeping him fresh basically. Of course pushing would be great too...because that means we have something special in Jenifer.
