Cobb vs Johnson

Don't get why everyone wants Troy to be a 2 guard. Our backcourt is going to be fine this year. Cobb has the game of a conventional two guard and Troy has the size of one.

Ok, so wait...if Jenifer is officially going to play the point for all 40 minutes. And Caupain will play the 2 for all 40...will Cobb and KJ even play this year? Or should we redshirt both of them?

Mick has always said he has wanted to play 4 to 5 guards a game so this doesn't surprise me. I also wouldn't be surprised to see jenifer and caupain in the game at the same time. Having two point guards in the game is not a bad problem to have especially with how good caupain is at getting to the rim.

Justin jenifer sounds like a real talent and you have to get him in the game somehow, caupain is one of the best players in the conference there is no way he plays less than 30 mpg this year. If they think Jennifer is that good then we could possibly see a 3 guard offense as well.

IMO Jenifer's biggest issue is going to be turnovers. Mick hates, hates, hates, turnovers. If he turns the ball over he probably won't play too much. The only thing that negates that is defense and I doubt his defense will be that good his freshman year.

Your right about the turnovers and Mick's response.

One thing is for sure. KJ has utlized this offense by gaining some muscle. Dude is straight jacked. Both Cobb and him seem to have had great offseasons. I can't wait to see what both can do!

I agree that KJ has grown in size. I shook his hand at the most recent football game and my wife and I both noticed how big he was. I shook hands with KJ and Troy. Troy is a big guy too. We also saw Ken Griffey Jr. in the elevator and Steve Spect-St X coach.

I think our backcourt is just fine the way it is. However...

Shouldn't we all be hoping that Jenifer is so good that we can't keep him off the floor? Not that it's likely...but if that dream scenario occurred...wouldn't we still want Troy to be on the court?

It's unlikely but it's just fun speculation really

I don't get what everyone is seeing in Jenifer. I think he can be good here, but from day 1? Ehh, I'm not buying that. I think Evans will have a MUCH bigger impact as a freshman.

I agree about Evans since he is arguably playing behind our weekest/thinnest position. Could be in line for 15+ minutes if he works hard and does what Mick tells him.

As for Jenifer...a guy can dream right...lol

However, I do see a completely different style from Jenifer than Caupain. More of a traditional pure PG. A low to the ground sneak through the cracks kind of guy. Complete opposite of TC really. Has better ball handling skills already and from video and other comments has great court vision and runs the break very well. Obviously size could be an issue and we don't know how well he can defend.

That being said it's going to take a great player to take minutes from Troy and I'm not expecting it to happen

How is Jenifer's shot? I can't imagine he is even in the same ballpark as TC on FTs, 3s, or finishing at the hoop. I bet he's way behind KJ and Cobb in that regard as well. I just see him as a pure backup this year who will never be counted on for even 5 points in big games (which is fine). Maybe he can get some minutes and make some plays vs lower competition.

As for Evans, I think he'd force his way on the floor no matter what position he played. He seems to be the most ready-to-contribute guy. I don't know how he'll stack up with Jenifer and Scott over the course of their careers, but I feel like Evans is way ahead for a freshman.

I don't think Jenifer is known as a knock down shooter but adequate. I can't imagine it will be easy for him to finish at the rim in D1 at his height. I'm not saying his skill set is better than Troy's by any means...just that they have two completely different skill sets. I also don't think scoring points is going to be his biggest asset to the team. I think it's going to be his ability to break down a D by getting in the lane and distributing the ball.

I can't argue with you about Evans...I hope he's ready to contribute

Jenifer is a solid shooter and better yet he will be one of the few guys on our team that create shots for himself. To me Jenifer is the most ready to play d1 college basketball than any other recruit this year.

Evans might play more, because there is no one to play Sf behind shaq but if there wasn't a log jam at the guard position for us Jennifer would play a lot more. I think you guys will see once TC leaves we are still going to be very strong at the pg position.

I don't get why you keep saying small forward is or thinnest weakest position when every position on the team only has two people except for power forward which has three!!!!

I think what he means is that we have an inconsistent 5th year senior at the position that averaged 6.4 ppg last year and a frosh backing him up. It's not necessarily our strong position like SG, C, PG...

Because it is the weakest position right now. TC is a solid PG, Cobb is a solid SG and can provide decent backup PG duties, KJ is a decent backup to SG, Ellis, Clark, DeBerry is a solid front court, but the SF is Shaq who has been incredibly inconsistent and pretty disappointing in his career so far. The backup is an unproven talent. Easiest to see why it's the weakest/thinnest at this point.

Point guard is thin we have a freshman back up there Cobb is going to be the shooting guard and shooting guard only with Caupain and Jennifer at point.
Power forward is thin you have Clark starting with basically moore who never played and Scott who is never played.
Worst come to worst you can always run with the three guard lineup again especially in the AAC.

PG is caupain. So we know that position isnt the weakest
SG is Cobb...so again going by stats we know that isnt the weakest
PF is clark...Again, not the weakest
C-Ellis. same as the above.

Small forward is shaq who has still not lived up to the hype and out of all the above is averaging less than anyone else. So of the starters the 3 spot is our weakest based on offensive stats.

He wasn't going by offense stats he was going by depth and by depth there are three positions equally the thinnest. And even if you were going by offense stats thomas averaged six and Clark average seven so he was only technically the weakest by one point out of the starters.

Im not going to argue with you, But its pretty obvious what our weakest position is going into preseason based on last year

We hear every year where shaq is supposed to be breaking out and he never has. so until he does, the 3 remains the weakest. But, id take that over past years where we had questions at 2 or 3 starting spots

Yea, it's pointless arguing. It's obvious to pretty much everyone which position is weakest (as of now). Things could change, Shaq could live up to the hype and Evans could be an instant impact player. Or Jenifer turns out to be a stud and the PG position is loaded. But as of now, on paper, the SF position is by far the weakest.
