No because they were all essentially one possession games. Micks comments about Cash's injury was posturing. If you listened to the Mick Cronin show tonight or read anything from Paul Dehner you know that it was more serious than they let on. Cash at the end of the year still didn't look like the Cash from the beginning half of the year.

Cash at the end of the year was the same Cash with the exception of shooting. He shot slightly worse at the end of the year. He didn't run the show throughout the entire season. Even in the beginning of the year he was completely content on standing outside the 3 point line and bombing threes. Mick also kept getting in his ear in the beginning of the season for not pushing the tempo so it's not like the injury had anything to do with that.

Mick said he would not play Cash until he was 100%. He said it multiple times.

An injury does not cause you to take dumb shots from 35 feet out. I really enjoyed watching Cash play throughout his career and definitely think injuries played a critical role in his development but his biggest weakness was his inability to run the point and be an effective PG before being a 3 point shooter.

Cash wasn't even close to 100% and no coach in America is going to go public with a injury repoert on his PG. Mick said a ss much on his radio show last night

Look at his numbers prior to the injury. Mick mentioned lastnight that cash couldn't push off his good leg after the injury and it made driving to the rim and finishing very difficult.

Oh, so now we should believe what he says? But we shouldn't believe him a month ago? I'll filter what he says through you to determine when he is telling the truth or lying. The MRI results showed no damage. Maybe they lied about that as well.

I like that Mick has his players back but he makes a lot of excuses for his players. Remember, the only reason Mbodj wasn't good last year was because of his ankle. Good thing it healed and he dominated this year.

With the exception of the Depaul game he didn't drive to the lane prior to his injury.

Thanks, but I know his production dropped off after the injury. But I think it had a lot more to do with other things than his injury. Again, MRI was negative, unless they lied about it. And I'm not sure I agree with the premise that injuring your good knee (which was his right knee) prevents him from driving. How many right handers do you know that also use their right leg as their strong leg when driving and jumping? And if the injured knee prevented him from driving don't you think it would prevent him from shooting 35 foot three pointers?

I do think Cash drove somewhat often, the problem was he would stop, turn around, and bring it back out. I don't think he had the confidence to finish in the lane. Cash was never really a good finisher through contact.

But look, it's not like I don't think Cash was hurting at all or that if affected him. My point is the team had way more issues than that and Mick, who I completely support, tends to make excuses to deflect criticism. First they didn't have the players, then they were young, then Lance was a ball hog and Deonta couldn't fit in with him, then Yancy was slowing the team down and Mbodj had a bad ankle. Now it's Cash and Jackson were injured...Fact is the team lost 3 of 5 before the injury and three straight at home. They played their best ball at the beginning of the season against two good teams. Then they struggled against an average Alabama team, struggled against a weak Xavier team, struggled against a good NM team. In all three of those games the offense looked terrible. Then it looked terrible again when they lost three in a row at home (that included NM) including a bad loss to SJU. I just can't buy that everything was peachy up until the injury.

Prior to Cash's injury this team was a projected 4 seed despite all the issues. When he returned it took him forever to get his rhythm and lift back on his shot. Our 2nd leading scorer went from averaging near 20 ppg in BE play to single-digits. That loss of scoring was too much to overcome for this offensively challenged group. Had Cash never been injured there is no way they end up as a 10 seed. I think they end up in the 5-7 range, but I still think they are sitting home right now because of the problems that we had with a healthy Cash.

TheLonghaul, Mick does not need to make excuses. He is as safe in his job as many coaches in the country. They ain't replacing Mick trust me. They got to get in a stable conference and improve facilities. They are not replacing the guy who has rebuilt the program from the death penalty because some fans who don't go to all the games, don't know the game, have know idea what goes on in practice or believe they know the health of the players better then the coach.

Who's trying to say it was peachy. this whole season post scoring was a concern. Couple that with the fact Cash's injury caused his production to fall off only made matters worse. It also impacted SK's production because knowledgeable basketball people who played and coached against the cats knew something was wrong with cash and focused on SK. It put pressure on him from the oppostion and he put pressure on himself.

Look I am a supporter of UC Sports. If I thought replacing Cronin would be best for the program I would be all for it. Fact is it is not. The program is growing in stature and the fans are tuning out again. His reputation in the sport is also improving that is why he is mentioned as a candidate for other jobs and he is starting to land better recruits. Get on the band wagon.

absolutely. Ray Charles could see he wasn't right after the injury. i've posted his before and after stats many times and it wasn't even close. Thus team overachieved this year with a horrible inside game and a injury to the most important player.

His contract currently runs thru 2016/2017. I won't make you do the math. That is 4 remaining years. As we all know, the standard in college basketball is at least a 5 year contract, because anything less than 5 is a vehicle for other programs to use in recruiting against you (i.e. the administration hasn't extended the coach, therefore he might not be there at some point in your career). For example, Pitt just extended Jamie Dixon for 10 years after a 1st round loss in the NCAA. That is a safe coach, and one that is loved by his administration. Let's wait and see how much our administration loves Mick with a big contract extension. Who knows, it might happen...but it hasn't happened yet. With all the love he has from everyone, I'm somewhat surprised that they have allowed him to fall under 5 years.

Pitt is already in a new league. Our athletic department has quite a bit on its plate right now. Your assuming because it hasn't happened it won't that is laughable. Didn't they raise his salary last year???? It also takes two parties to make a deal.

But to blame his performance solely on the injury is disenginuous. The level of competition increased dramatically.

Big East play brought everyone's numbers down.

Mick was quoted today in the Enquirer as saying he wasn't concerned about the contract and that Whit had more important things on his plate since September than worrying about extending his contract a year. Mick has things in perspective, unlike some fans around here.

Cash was averaging 18 ppg in BE games prior to the injury. He had also scored 18+ in 4 out of 5 BE games. His level of play went up as the BE schedule started.

That's great news! Then we need to get that done so as to not affect recruiting. Thanks for the update.

SOLELY???? Did you see are inside game. Couple that with Cash's drop off and we were really operating at a disadvantage.

I don't think they are replacing Mick nor do I want them to. That doesn't mean he doesn't make excuses. It's pretty obvious he does in a lot of cases.
