Mike is anything but unprofessional. You should go back and read his article of the game. He gave UL a ton of praise and spent the majority of the time in that article talking about "Russdiculous" and his game winner. Yes, he is friends with Mick, but that doesn't make him unprofessional. Not even close.

I'm not talking about one game here, I'm talking about over time. Going back to 2009 and some exchanges I've heard or seen that Mike has had with people in his defense of Mick. Mike seems like a good dude and I like his writing, I just feel like he has in the past gone out of his way to defend Mick. When he makes it fairly obvious to people that he's rooting for his buddy that feels a little bit unprofessional for a national sports writer. Just my opinion and I certainly wouldn't be using him as the best example of an objective writer. Which was why I brought this up initially.

Multiple things I take issue with:

The officials were terrible. All the way around. If that makes it fair because they made bad calls both ways, so be it, but I'd prefer "competent" or even "good."

And just because they made bad calls doesn't mean UC bears no responsibility in the loss. There was a lot of things that could have been a lot better on UC's part. I have never said otherwise.

But if that review is given to them. They have the ball up 3 with 1:25 to go. They either get fouled and go to the line in the double bonus, or they get to run the clock down under a minute. Probably the latter. But that puts them in an extremely good position to win. It was a decisive call. I don't know why people on a UC message board are so surprised that UC fans are upset about it.

Nice use of squid though.

Strong point........I'd agree with you on that. I just don't see how you can think that UC should have gotten that ball on the replay. Original call was to give the ball to UL, no way that video supports changing the call. That replay is the definition of "inconclusive evidence".

Only people who have irrationally hated Mick and the job he has done as coach here would have a problem with this. I bet Mike felt he needed to do this because of the number of vocal, irrational "fans." By the way, coaches are allowed to have friends that are in "the business." Seth Greenburg is another friend of Mick's. Should we dismiss anything he says because he is a friend? Don't you see the absurdity in this? You can be friends with someone, root for them, and still be objective. Go back and read Mike's old stuff and I bet you will find that he has been right about Mick and this program nearly 100% of the time. If you want objectivity from a writer, you have to be willing to be objective as a fan and admit when someone was right no matter what their motives might have been.

That was my position during the first review. I was shocked they gave it to UC. Then they went back and to look at a new angle they hadn't seen. The new angle they showed on the broadcast came from the opposite side of the court in the corner near the UC bench and to me it conclusively showed the ball did not touch Shaq's foot. I'm not the only one who thinks this way, but clearly not everyone agrees with me.

Jason, I never said coaches can't have friends in the business and I actually said it's nice to have one as a UC fan. I was just pointing out that the poster used Mike DeCourcy as an example of an objective national writer and IMO he's not the best example of objectivity.

And yes, in my mind that makes him somewhat unprofessional but that's my opinion and I'm sure there are many who would disagree with it.

There's just as much "irrational" love for Mick as there is hate.

And we have you here to remind us about it. Over and over and over and over. Except when you take a leave of absence from the board when the team is playing at its absolute best, which is a little weird if you ask me. That didn't last long though.

Yup. I hate having a Top 10 team, 2nd all-time scorer in program history, and a bunch of guys that go to class, graduate and are respectful. Very irrational.

Let's not drag this into another thread debating the state of the program and the effectiveness of its Coach. It gives the impression the fan base isn't sold on our direction or coach which is not the case. You'll never convince some and frankly I'm at the point I could careless. Our team and Coach do not need defending. They are both doing very well. I understand your frustration but you only feed the fire by fanning the flames. You know the history.

Please...Titus had 14 rebounds most of which were in key times. He was not the problem. Jackson committing 2 early fouls basically left Titus to fend for himself...

This..

I dont like people who sit there and bash Rubles... If you have knowledge of the game its very obvious what he brings to the table. He is VERY good at his role on this team.
- Best rebounder
- Best defender (Justin is good but blocking shots is only part of defense. Being able to play lock up D without fouling is very difficult)
- Arguably the most important player breaking the press... Call me crazy but he has been used very effectively breaking the press when our guards are overwhelmed.

Every team needs a Titus Rubles to be good. People who disagree truly dont have a good concept of the game.

Mike DeCourcy is definitely not an objective basketball writer. Mike is good buddies with Mick and has been an avid supporter and defender of his for a long time. It's nice to have a national writer who's a friend of the program but at times it's also bordered on unprofessional.

That tool Jeff Goodman is buddies with Chris Mack. He used to always talk about how Semaj Christrion was clearly better than Kilpatrick, HAH someone needs to ask him once more on Twitter

Speaking of Chris Mack. That douche bag was talking about how much of a meat grinder the Big East is for X. (Talking about playing St. John's) what a loser. Try playing that schedule but add Syracuse West Virginia UConn Louisville that we had to play. Sorry, off topic but I laughed when I heard that.

.........and Pitt, and S. Fla, and Rutgers....

I totally agree. Titus is critical to this team. That said if he would have lived up to his potential offensively this team could have potentially been elite. He just never developed offensively in his two years here like I thought he was capable of. I think his confidence offensively is what held him back. Though I'm hoping he has a couple big games left in him.

Titus is essentially the back up center on this team, I wonder how much better offensively both he and Lawrence would be if they had a true "5" man in the middle like Yancy Gates. I know Rubles shouldn't play away from the basket a ton, but I feel like he has to do way too much right now...

Oh yeah I forgot Pitt. I knew I was forgetting one bigger team. Thanks! Mack is a bum. The meat grinder...smh

Hahaha yes all those xu guys act like the big east east is so tough. That Shannon Russell girl for the enquirer is awful to, they are acting like St. John's is a marquee road win. Someone showed me this xu forum where the topic was old big east vs new big east. I couldn't stop laughing I guess butler is better than cues, Louisville, Pitt, uconn, cinci, Nd, and wvu haha. The got to change the name of that conference out of respect and get out of the garden.

Amen, they are freaking delusional. Just wanna smack some sense in em.

That Russell was the one instigated the fight by telling people SK disrespected TU.

I believe that was actually Andy Furman who did that interview. And then PDOC and Russel picked up on it to create some hype because they didnt feel any was there. And then after the game they criticized everyone for being to emotionally invested in it.
