Cronin has big plans for Kilpatrick

Sean Kilpatrick never uttered a word of complaint publicly when he was asked to red-shirt two years ago, but he says now that having to sit out made him “heated”, even though ultimately it was his decison.
“Coach said to me when I decided to red-shirt that it will benefit you in the long run,” Kilpatrick said. “As you see now, it’s actually paying off, so I’m pretty happy that I made that decision. But I was heated (at the time). After games, I wouldn’t even talk to nobody. I would just leave. It was that bad. It was only because I wanted to help my team win. That’s what I’ve been doing my whole life, so me sitting out a whole year, that’s painful.’
All those UC fans who clamored so loudly last year for Kilpatrick to see more playing time will get their wish this season. UC coach Mick Cronin says he’ll be “shocked” if Kilpatrick doesn’t play at least 30 minutes per game after averaging only 20 last season.
Cronin has big plans for Kilpatrick. Not only does he want him to supply the physical toughness that Rashad Bishop provided last year, he said Kilpatrick should be able to increase his scoring average from 9.7 to around 15.
“He’s going to have to go from one of the top five freshmen in the Big East to one of the better players in the Big East,” Cronin said.
