As I said, I am very excited about this team. I think they will lose some close games early but be very good in January. This team "has a feel" for me this season and moving forward. I like the way it's put together and the parts. I could be way off base but that's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Nice kick off article from the Enquirer and Bill Koch:

I'd agree with Mick if he was talking about next year, but I can't get on board with great potential this year. Short of Clark and/or Moore having a huge impact, I think this frontcourt is really going to struggle. Going off recent history I expect little to nothing from the JUCOs this year.

I also like that this team will be tested from the start. Our non-conference games will be a challenge. Coming in to January they should have been tested and ready for conference play. I also like how we have some of our "tougher" match ups in the AAC are early on instead all in February. I also believe they will lose some close games early on but hopefully can grown and learn from that.

Seems like this is a repetitive theme in one form or the other for UC basketball previews. I highlighted some things from last season's preview that could apply this season as well with a new name attached:

"The problem Cincinnati had last year and will have again this year is finding a few more scorers. In 2012-2013, Cashmere Wright and JaQuon Parker were at least threats to score, but those two are now gone. Wright ran the show and was second on the squad with 12.7 points per game. Parker was easily the most efficient outside shooter on the team, connecting on 40.0 percent of his attempts from beyond the arc. Without those two, the pressure will be on Kilpatrick to score even more and the opposing defense will certainly know that. The Bearcats also lose frontcourt players Cheikh Mbodj and Kelvin Gaines. While Gaines only provided occasional size in the paint last season, Mbodj was a regular starter. Mbodj was never much of a scorer, but he was a strong rebounder and a very productive shot blocker. "

Ellis already has a year in the system, so he isn't a typical JUCO. I wouldn't be surprised if he is in the top two or three in minutes played from day 1...

Regarding the JUCOs, Ellis will contribute from day 1. DeBerry and Cobb, I'm not sold on but excited to see play. Clark is the newcomer I am most excited about.

Deberry will be good. his concern for me is conditioning. we are going to see him a lot and I have no problem with that, but I would bet if he is in the game you could see us playing some zone.

I want to see what kind of offense Cronin installs with some actual big men. We have been deprived for years now and its time to see some changes. We have been in dire need for some inside/outside action. It will be a shame if we don't see this happen.

Good point. Ellis is definitely going to log a lot of minutes. I just hope they are quality minutes on both sides of the ball. The recent JUCO bigs have been horrific offensively.

I can't wait for the season to start. I am really excited to see Morman, Clark, Moore, and Eliis.

Morman had better get a ton of minutes....in a "force his way into the lineup" kind of way. Ellis will be very good...but will he score more than JJ's 11 pts./game?

The young guards KJ & Caupain should be better....will they make up for the loss of SK's more than 20 pts./game?

It shouldn't be hard to replace Titus' offense, but what about his "D" and boards?

Will Shaq finally produce on a consistent basis? Will Sanders step up and become more of a scoring threat?

Lotta questions, but that's what makes the early season fun. I still think Morman is the wild card - He could be a difference maker - I don't expect a whole lot out of the new bigs - hope I'm pleasantly surprised.

I totally spaced out about Cobb - he could really add a whole new dimension to the guard position....could be a strong shot of offense.

That is the line up I want to see. Hopefully you are right because that makes me even more excited for the season to start.

My gut says Sanders starts over Clark early, but the young pup is going to see a lot of clock this year. He and Ellis on the floor together will produce a ton of second chance opportunities...
