Just saw in the Enquirer, Cronin spoke his mind about the current state of college sports. He pretty much sumed up everything how how myself and I am sure a lot of other college fans feel. I like the fact he isn't afraid to shy away and discuss it. I kind of wish he did it at a different time and not right after a ugly loss. I am sure majority of people and media will look at it as whining due to the timing but college sports have turned into an absolute joke with all the realignment.

absolutely love it.someone had the guts to say it. I love athletics as much as anyone but in my opinion sports in this country are a example of Capitalism gone wild.

He's right on in stating the obvious that so many have willfully ignored.

Couldn't agree more and I don't have the time to type the rant on that topic. Its about par for the direction in which our country is sliding down into an abysmal pit. Its amazing/puzzling how citizens of the US can still afford to go to games and travel to conference tourney's such as the BE tourney.

I agree as well. On the flip side the money being made is what funds scholarships, etc. for these athletes to get their free rides.

I totally agree with Cronin and I think it's ruining college athletics. I think these latest conference realignments might be the kicker that puts it into motion. But I did think the reporters question about Coaches salaries is legit. There is plenty of greed from the coaches as well. Cronin is making over $1 million a year. Greed is everywhere.

I do not remember any of you griping when we left C-USA for more money. But now that we are the ones left holding a bag of crap, all of the sudden this is a travesty? Hypocrites! And Cronin was merely putting attention on a subject in an attempt to distract from the tail kicking we took today. That is how I saw it. Typical Mick. I mean, his players do not listen to him, what makes him think anyone else will?

Leaving C-USA for the Big East was way better for UC in every way possible. Big East was way better for the student athletes and the olympic sport athletes.

And the new Big East is better for the C7. The ACC is better for Syracuse and Pitt. Cronin should have no gripe, correct?

How is the new ACC better for Syracuse? How is the new Big 12 better for WVU? How is the ACC better for ND? In those cases the only way it's better is for money. You think the WVU soccer team likes traveling 800 miles to play a single game?

I think UC will get in the ACC and be fine so its not like I have this huge bias. But I think this is bad for the non-revenue sports and it sucks for the fans too.

How is it better for WVU and its fans? Or Rutgers and its fans? Sure they can travel to road games....not. The travel distances with these new conferences are ridiculous and the "student" athlete's should hardly be called that. They are not even close to being a student with all the traveling that is included. It maybe benefit football but that's the only thing that is making out in the realignment. It has single handily ruined natural rivals in college sports.

I see your point on Rutgers and West Virginia, but this does benefit the others. And they get a much bigger pay check to build better facilities, provide schollys, and bring in real assistant coaches. How many of us would gripe if UC was invited to the ACC? Or even the Big 12 right now and leave the new league high and dry? And yes, it has destroyed rivalries. But according to everyone here, we have no rivals aside from X.

Ha, I see what you're saying about the rivalries. I mean, none of us will complain when/if we go to the ACC or Big 12 bc its an absolute must. But its not bc we want to go to other conferences but its because we are forced to, especially if we want to remain relevant. Like you said, UC as a whole university needs to continue to grow with better facilities and more schollys. Its a crappy situation and you can't argue Micks points BC they are really valid. You can however argue in the timing, I think he should have said it at a different time. A lot of ppl will say he's just whiny after a loss. I think with UC losing and the realization of not returning to MSG anymore hit him hard and that's what made Cronin say what he said.
