Does anybody know why Thomas isn't playing in the league? He's been down there at least twice to watch. I'd like to see if he's gotten any bigger and stronger. Maybe he's under some heavy workout program and he's too tired to play. That's what I hope at least.

Sunday 7/18

Yancy and Dion played in the second game of the day against the NKU team. Yancy looked very good today. Dunks, rebounding, defense (for the most part), even shooting. He shot a couple 3s that displayed nice touch. Don't mind Yancy taking a few jumpers as long as it doesn't get out of control. The NKU team had nobody to match Yancy, and he did get a little lazy on the defensive end of the game when his team got up by 15-20 points. But once again, good day for Yancy as he scored I think 23.

Dion started off hitting two quick 3s, then disappeared for the majority of the game until he had two dunks in the second half. Finished with 10 on the day I believe.

Slats (Kilpatrick, Jackson) took on Clovernook (Bishop, Biggie) in the last game of the day.

Jackson was the beneficiary of a couple and 1's early in the game and probably finished with a little over 10 points for the game. Once again, he will not 'wow' you with anything but he does a lot of things solid. The thing that stood out to me was that Clovernook had one player (Tyrone Bradshaw) who was absolutely tearing it up and could not be stopped. He threw down an absolute nasty dunk, so the next possession Jackson was all up in his grill, and nearly had a steal but got called for an iffy foul. Well, after the foul, Jackson ended up getting a clean steal on the next possession. Just shows you what type of player he is.

Terrell Holloway (XU) ran with Slats today, so it took some pressure off of Kilpatrick. He and Holloway shared time running the point. He didn't shoot as much today because he actually has some help now, but he still probably had close to 20. Had a nice finish on the break and was 4-4 from the line I believe.

Biggie played decent. Grabbed some rebounds, hit a couple shots, some turnovers. Him and Toyloy were going after each other, in a good way though.

Bishop looked terrible today. His shot was off, he was forcing way too much, just a bad overall game. Looked like he hadn't played basketball in a while, but he did have a couple nice moves and passes. Looks to be in great shape, although he was always been.

In the stands today were Cash, Thomas, and Larry Davis. It was cool to see Dion and Yancy come back from their 1:00 game to watch Slats play at 4:00 and support their teammates.

deveroes

Good post thanks for the info! I still have not been down this year and love to go watch the players. Hopefully Mr. Bishop is just tired from working out so hard, He has always looked physically gifted but just like Yancey they just dont have that fire. As for Kilpatrick i watched him last year at Deveroes and he put the nastiest crossover on some guy that i have ever seen before, he just seems under control and is very fluent in anything he does, he kinda reminds me of Hazell from seton hall in which he just scores every way possible. Im still waitng to hear about Gaines, hopefully Dave is just putting him through very hard workouts.

Thanks for the update. I was unable to make it down this weekend. Interesting that Bishop is here. That tells me he will most likely be with us this year, not that I had any doubts about that. I think the only way he wouldn't be back is if Mick had recruited someone to take his scholarship away. Nice observation on Jackson, that does tell alot about him that he went right after the guy on the next possession. Kilpatrick the weekend before did the same thing although wasn't successful at it. I remember Lance doing the same thing last year. That's exactly what I like to see out of my Bearcats -- play with pride!

Deveroes summer league

If Anyone goes tonight and posts i would appreciate it , hopefully Gaines will be there and we can get some info on him. I do have one question if anyone could help me- What team does Jaquon Parker play for? I was looking for his stats and just cant seem to find him!!

I couldn't make it down tonight but Parker played for Western Hills Chick Fil-A in one of the first games and had like 26 points but then has not played since. Not sure what the deal is but he has been around in the stands a couple other times.

This is from Darnell Wilks' twitter:

UcTruegame15 Deverous is crazy be mess up if none of us want to play anymore

Did something happen down at the games tonight? If anyone was there and can shed light on his comment, I would appreciate it.

Wilks was kicked out of one of the games for jawing with his coach and refusing to come out of the game.....he is probably still upset about it, must of been suspended by the coach or something

Didn't go today but from looking at the box scores Kelvin Gaines played. He only played 8 minutes but good to see him there.

Also Jackson only took one shot but he did have 5 blocks.

Usual day for Killa.

Yancy didn't show up (rumor that he was actually punch by Paul "Mad Man" McMillan last Wednesday, and not surprisingly, McMillan was also a no-show).

Dixon I believe is in Chicago so he was not there.

Wilks played so maybe he and his coach are on the same page again.

I will be going down tomorrow so I will give a full report for everybody.

Didnt make it today but I am going down tomorrow. Would like to hear about Gaines from anybody who went down today.

Went down today. Only saw the last two games. Got to see Wilks for the first time this year. He was mostly on the bench. Only scored two points on a last minute dunk. Gates nor Dixon showed up to play. Neither did Gaines. Saw Kilpatrick and Jackson in the final game. Kilpatrick looked solid. Hit some nice jumpers. Their team is much better since adding Holloway and a couple other guys. He seemed to use his team more and was taking open looks as opposed to trying to take it in every time. He and CJ Anderson were jawing at each other the whole time, which personally I like. I don't want my Bearcats chumming it up with X players. Jackson looked very raw. I've said it before, but the more I see of him the less I think he'll be able to contribute this year. Unless he is very fast learner. He doesn't seem to have good hands either which really bothers me. Thats how you lose rebounds. He did have a nasty block on Mark Lyons. He is definately tenacious, but it needs to be harnessed. He plays very reckless.

Deveroes

Yes i feel the same way about Jackson but the tenacious thing is a trait i want the bearcats to have. You cant teach intensity and passion but the fundementals will come. Remember he was a stud for his high school team and they played very good competition and a number of D1 players he faced night in and night out. Heck we thought after seeing Dion and marcus sykes Adam Hyricineiuk that they might turn out to be studds, but you just never know Deveroes is a different animal than organized college basketball. I dont think that he will be a top flight rookie of the Big East but he will be fine,

Some guys are system guys. You get them in an organized system and they flourish. Often times big guys disappear in glorified pick up games because they are so guard and wing dominant. I have not seen Jackson play but I have a feeling this is the type of player he is. Those guys usually still excel defensively and by all accounts Jackson is just fine on that end. We all knew his offensive game could use some work anyway. I think he will be better in a system and may surprise us all a bit this year.

Jackson IS raw but he is a player that fans are going to love over the years. He plays every minute like it's his last and he will contribute even if it's with his hustle and hard nosed D. He will be better with some structure.

I've been out of town alot so I appreciate the updates. Thanks guys!

Let me clarify my position on Jackson in case I might not have said it right. I think he will be a stud for us at some point. My only concern and the comments I made speak to his ability to come in and help us right away. I know typically you don't expect a freshman to come in and make an impact, especially for a defensive minded player, but with Gates being who he is I was just hoping he would be able to either push him some or even better take his spot if Gates didn't step up or at the least be able to contribute some decent minutes. I just don't see it happening this year. He obviously has passion and wants to learn and that goes a long way, but Mick has to put the best five guys on the floor to give us the best chance to win and I can't see Jackson getting alot of minutes. Mainly because if nothing else he will be in foul trouble. The first thing he needs to do is learn to swipe side-to-side and not down on a player when going for rebounds and blocks. That is an automatic foul when you swipe down on a player. The second thing he needs to do is stay off a player once he's lost the rebound. (Gates still needs to learn that, too.) That is an easy way to pick up fouls. He also needs to develop stronger hands. He's mishandled some passes. All of this isn't a big deal for a kid that hasn't played a second of college ball and all of this is coachable and I am more than confident he will learn these. My only point is I don't expect him to come in and contribute right away. Hopefully that makes since. I know alot of guys don't get down to see him in person and rely on the few of us who post about the summer league to get their info on these new guys and I don't want anyone to think my opinion on him is that he won't pan out for us or be a good player.

Looks like Gates and Dixon's team got beat last night without them. Neither have played since Gates got into his fight. Wilks team won, but he didn't play. Maybe Wilks' rumbling about the bearcat players being pissed at the Deveroes league might be true. Wonder if any of them will play next year. And by the way, I heard today that the word on the street is Gates got his butt kicked and is looking to send some goons after him.

You're joking about Gates sending goons right?
