Has become way worse. Some schools have always been on this trend, however not all.

AAU will ruin college sports, it already has started.

To many just "athletes". To many bigs who want to be the 6'9 "wing" player and shoot threes.

It is absolutely hilarious that you act like this is something new.

Average scoring was at the lowest its been since the 50's... Why you ask? Because Athletes can play great defense but cant put the ball in the basket.

College basketball in general has been very poor lately, tough to watch..

Outside of watching UC play you wont find me watching many random college games, the play is simply not very good.

Yea I'd have to agree with Legend. The pure jumper is a lost art lately. Even the biggest prospects seem to be slashers now. What happened to the complete package player.

It left college basketball in the 80s.

College basketball was changed when the three point shot was adopted in 1986-1987. That is when you started to lose the "pure jumper." No one shoots 15 footers anymore and if you are a guard or a wing, the statistics prove that you shouldn't any way. At least not on a consistent basis. You should either be shooting threes or taking the ball to the basket. I know it's not always pretty basketball and so called "traditionalists" don't like it, but there is a reason these sabermetrics people exist. Math works.

Nope. Average scoring is not down because these kids magically play great defense now but didn't 20 years ago. Average scoring is down for a couple reasons:

1. 1 and done kids. More young players playing and more turnover means less offensive cohesion, more potential and less realization.

2. The way the game is officiated has changed. Just look at the Big East since UC was included and you will see a physical, football style of game on the basketball court. This is why scoring is down. College is a more physical game than the NBA. It didn't used to be this way. If college basketball wants scoring to increase, the hand checks out top and the bumping of every cutter needs to stop. Defense has not gotten better, it has been allowed to become lazy. You used to have to move your feet on defense. If you put a hand on someone with the ball, it was a foul. Now, guys like Craft can practically wear your jersey with you and get called for maybe a foul or two per game. That is why scoring is down.

1. UC directly contradicts your first statement... Limited to none 1 and done guys.. Lots of athletes. Lots of stale offensive production.

2. The Big East was a very physical league.... why you ask? Its simple because thats what athletes can bring to the table. Physicality.

Here ill fix college basketball in 3 simple steps.
- recruit shooters, zero reason guys shoot under 80% from the line at the college level
- recruit actual DEVELOPED FUNDAMENTAL big guys (undersized or not, irrelevant.. a drop step, up and under, baby hook would be a sight to see anymore)
- recruit players who actually understand basketball, few do anymore. ("what is a pivot foot" - former UC player who asked Mick this question... we serious?)

That would be nice, but that team would lose. The game is "prettier" when a team is full of players that know the fundamentals, however, a team of athletes will win hence why coaches recruit athletes.

Physical and less scoring is better. The NBA is more like the Harlem Globetrotters until the playoffs hit. Then, they actually play defense and I am willing to watch a few minutes of it. College basketball players play for their team instead of their next contract and it shows. Nothing beats March Madness, you can't even compare it to the NBA playoffs. I think one-and-dones have actually had some positive influence on the game. The talent seems to be more spread out and there seems to be more Cinderella's than ever before. I loved watching Florida Gulf Coast, they had so much fun out there and they took down Goliath a few times.

I might be oversimplifying things, but I tend to attribute the success of the Cinderella (mid-majors) teams to the fact that players stick around longer and build chemistry and rely on fundamentals or the ability to exploit the other team's lack of fundamentals or team play. I agree about enjoying the passion and pride in the college game but playing hard and playing smart shouldn't have to be mutually exclusive.

Dave Telep wrote a pretty damning article on the AAU system and how it's creating a culture of entitled players who lack fundamentals and work ethic

When you take an average, you will have some teams that are above the average, some below and some at or near the average (basic freaking math). Way to use UC as the entire barometer for your argument. I am talking about college basketball as a whole. Not UC in particular. Thanks for playing.

Please find me more than about 10-15 of these so called developed fundamental big guys that have D-1 skills in high school. There is a reason EVERYONE is recruiting the guys who are like this. DUH!!! You are delusional. Oh, and news flash, UC isn't going to win those recruiting battles. Never have, never will.

Any other news ? Slow day at work need something to do haha

Has anyone heard anything else about Nyarsuk gaining the weight and how he looks?

What about any other guys? Last offseason some of the guys showed some changes in their bodies. Mbodj and Sanders cutting weight and then some of the others who put on muscle

Saw Big Dave on campus today: he's still big

I'm with legend. The amount of athletes is killing bball. It's crazy these 6'9 guys can't post up.

I cant upload them cuz i have my phone right now but Troy Caupain posted on instagram to look at his "summer highlights" from this year. I am pretty sure all of them are from the Devoroes League. But go check them out! The other players might have them up right now too.

Meant to post this a while ago, but Shaq Thomas had 21 points in his last DSL game, going 7-8 from the line (he must have heard you, Jeff) and 7-14 from the field with no 3s attempted, along with 3 turnovers, 5 rebounds, and an assist. Justin Jackson played, and he scored 4 points, going 2-14 from the field (yikes!) and 0-4 from 3. He added 10 rebounds, 3 turnovers, 7 blocks, 3 assists, and 2 steals. Cash played and scored 16 and Cheikh scored 11. Yancy and Biggie played for the other team, scoring 8 and 10 respectively.
