To quote Jamal Walker working the mic at the summer league: "Shaq Thomas is getting busy today." Very aggressive. Just did a windmill.

22 points for Shaq Thomas, and another SLATS no show. Granted, they had 5 random schmucks playing for them, so they didn't have to forfeit.

Went down today, reluctantly. Happy I at least got to see Shaq play. He looks a little stronger and more confident but its the summer league. Finished a couple nice dunks as well and yeah, he did a nice windmill dunk during warm-ups. I was mostly happy to see him finish a couple mid-range jumpers, but he missed a few noticably short. Cash and Mbodj played as well. Nice to see them in action. Cash didn't do much, hit a couple threes. Mbodj lost the ball down low numerous times but played solid D. Talked to a guy after the game that turned out to be Andre Tate. Told him I was a Bearcat guy and he said he was a Bearcat and shook my hand. Mentioned I was disappointed the freshman didn't show up. This was before I knew who it was. He said he felt the same way and that's because "Cronin doesn't have a foot up their ass." He said Huggs made sure they were down there. Just an interesting take from a former player. From what I imagine Cronin isn't allowed to have much contact with them right now through NCAA regulations. Like I said just interesting to hear that from a former player. I actually felt bad I didn't know who it was. When he mention "Huggs" and "our" I knew he was a former player, plus he looked familiar. Had to look him up on the way home. Apparently he is coaching at Cincinnati State now. He's still in pretty good shape as well.

SLATS just got eliminated last night in the tourney, and none of the frosh showed up. Cash played for SLATS and scored 16.

I imagine it was head coach Andre Tate. Not sure how old you are, but unless you are in your 30s you probably wouldn't remember him.

I for one have no problem with them not showing up. I'm not sure how much it improves the team for the year, but playing together in a gym is probably just as helpful and I would be worry you have a never was or has been there to hurt someone.

It was Andre Tate. I'm 34 going on 35, I don't remember him playing but know the name. Plus I believe he is on the highlight reel that starts every game at the Shoe. My first year watching them was the final four year. I was a student from 96-97 until 99-00 seasons. I felt bad when he talked to me and it was obvious he was a former player and I didn't know who he was. I didn't want to ask him because that might make him feel bad. It was cool to get his take. And by the way to clarify when he said "that's because Mick doesn't have his foot up their asses" it didn't sound like he was criticizing Mick as much as just saying it wasn't an option for them because Huggins did have his foot up their ass.

As far as them not showing up it has been discussed enough on here and my opinion on it is pretty clear. In the grand scheme of things I don't care if they play either but it's frustrating when you go down to see them play and they don't show up. It's obvious it meant nothing to these players, which is fine, but don't sign up to play if you're not going to. Fans come down to see you play if they are expecting you. I honestly only went down this week because a friend was in town and we were just hanging out. I asked if he wanted to go down rather than sitting at home. Either way we were going to be sitting and reminiscing old times and talking sports. I did look and saw they played Saturday so I had my fingers crossed but wasn't holding my breath. Got to see Shaq play so it wasn't a total loss. He's still thin, but he doesn't look scrawny anymore.

I just re-read your post. Reading comprehension is not my forte. Totally missed where you said it was Tate. And on the DSL I grew up in Columbus and loved the days of the Worthington Summer League which was better than what anything other than the real thing could offer. The Cincinnati, Xavier, OSU guys were all there. Then they stopped showing up for that as well. Different coaches have different points of contention. I agree 100% with the promotion of UC players being there, but give players the benefit of the doubt that they didn't just show up and that the organizers are keeping it quiet until admission is paid.

Shaq had 13 points and 9 rebounds today. He was 1-2 from the ft line. Plays next Saturday at 1:30.

He's got to get better from the ft line.

Definitely. It will always be one of life's great mysteries to me why so many Division I college basketball players are poor free throw shooters. I was a below-average high school player and I touch a basketball maybe 3 or 4 times per year. Despite that, I could roll out of bed and make 6 out of 10.

Any other news ? Slow day at work need something to do haha

Has anyone heard anything else about Nyarsuk gaining the weight and how he looks?

What about any other guys? Last offseason some of the guys showed some changes in their bodies. Mbodj and Sanders cutting weight and then some of the others who put on muscle

As a short man, it befuddles me that someone that's around 6 and a half feet tall would ever miss a free throw. Unless you're a center with massive hands that make it awkward, it just seems like it would be a rarity. It's not just in college though, a lot of NBA players are pretty mediocre at it.

It's a mental thing and also a lack of practice thing for a lot of players. The best free throw shooters shoot hundreds of them after practice and won't leave the floor until they make a certain number. I can see time being a bit problematic for some college kids (though guys like SK and Lance found time to practice and keep their grades up) but there is no excuse for professional players. Period.

Athletes over basketball players... a growing trend in college basketball.

No games until Saturday, no news.....

This has always been the case in the 20+ years I have followed college hoops.

Has become way worse. Some schools have always been on this trend, however not all.

AAU will ruin college sports, it already has started.

To many just "athletes". To many bigs who want to be the 6'9 "wing" player and shoot threes.
