There are very few people on this roster that you could not say that about.

Agree with the rest. Recruiting seems to be improving which is imperative. Also, really hoping Mick can maximize DeBerry this year because I think he could be a monster on offense.
Only Ellis.

He also grabbed ONE rebound

Yeah, not great. Our rebounding besides Clark wasn't all that good. In Shaq's defense, he's always been a better offensive rebounder than defensive, and there weren't a ton of those to be had. Even so, the rebounding definitely needs to improve.

See, everyone freaks out about Shaq's rebounding, but really I don't find it to be that big of a deal. And I think there will be a trend of him having lower rebounding numbers as long as we are playing with this new style. Shaq excels at getting up the court. And if we are pushing the pace all the time, he isn't going to be crashing the boards as hard on defense. We need good team rebounding but we will rely on Clark, Ellis and Deberry a lot to get the rebound and hit the outlet pass to Shaq or to a guard.

This is what I was going to say. If we have Clark and Oct in the game, Shaq should be waiting for them or whoever is at the 1 & 2 to snag the board, and then take off down the court. Shaq in transition is when he's at his best.

If we can continue to run, with Shaq making a break as often as possible, we will be able to get some quick and easy buckets in transition, set up the press, and try to create steals for more easy buckets.

I'm becoming less concerned about Clark's offensive development...at least for this season. Looks like he isn't quite ready to move his game outside of posting up yet. Mick basically said so. And his free throws looked about the same as well. BUT he will be incredibly valuable to this team. He can do everything else. He has bought in completely, he is a tremendous rebounder, and his ball handling for a big when we're trying to push is a big help for our style. He is a good passer with good court vision and instincts as well. I seriously doubt he will average more than 7 or 8 ppg, but he is the kind of glue guy that a veteran team needs. He seems absolutely willing to do the dirty work. And to me, that just epitomizes the attitude of this year's team.

I agree I think Ellis will be calling for the ball more than Clark and we have a lot of perimeter guys that like to shoot. We still need to find a way to work the inside out game so we can keep shooting open 3's. I think 7-8 pts is about right for Clark.

I don't think anyone is freaking out about Shaq and his rebounding. My point was for all the chest thumping people did last year about out rebounding UK, UC just got out-rebounded by a DIII team last night. I thought the effort would be better than it was.

Stick to defending Tubbyclown. You're knowledge of basketball is poor.

I'm almost to point of saying that teams with less talent usually end up winning the hustle stats.

UC beat out uk in rebounds but uk won
Gvsu beat out UC in rebounding but UC dominated.

UC will be aggressive on the boards on bigger games. I'd rather no one break there ankle against gvsu trying to crash the boards

Ellis and Clark combined for 16 rebounds in 40 minutes, and only 1 of those boards was offensive. If they play their regular minutes in a game where we don't shoot 54% from the floor and 29 free throws, we likely won't be having this conversation. However, everyone else can't allow themselves to get shoved out of the way on the defensive glass (DeBerry had 1 defensive rebound in 13 minutes and Scott had 0 in 15 minutes). They got a way with a few fouls imo, but that's no excuse. I don't really see this being an issue in the long run though. We have 2 of the very best rebounders in the conference.

You could tell Cronin was letting them play
I saw a few things that would have someone riding pine in a real game...a game that matters. He can teach with video after the game and let them know it won't fly in a real game...and it won't.

Let them have a little fun on offense to build confidence. Even some of the passes that Jenifer made which were not picked off will get attention on film day. I saw a few questionable passes that didn't seem to serve a purpose and we're almost to's. But they weren't to's because he has a wonderful touch on his passes. Against better competition 1 or 2 of those get hijacked. That's okay...we and Cronin got to see them play naturally
