40 minutes is a long time against us.

Sampson threw the kitchen sink at us. He had several guys with 3 fouls in the first half. One fouled out a minute into the second half...lol! That's desperation mode... when you play #8 in The country and they haven't Lost at home in 2 years... you gotta pull out all the stops. It almost worked.

Good teams win.

Great teams cover!

But really, what a night. I just finished watching the game because I'm always watching the early games on dvr anymore with kids bedtime routine etc.

Weirdly never felt at any point like we were going to lose.

Also nice to FINALLY have a garbage lucky banked in shot in our favor (and it was huge right before the half).

Houston definitely made some contested/tough shots, but I felt like they got more than their fair share of good looks too that ended up as misses. Gave up 1.08 ppp which is pretty bad for us ( Houston averages 1.12 adj for opponent, so we barely kept them below their average).

Kyle mthrfckin Washington was awesome tonight. He knocked down huge shots, was very efficient, and his rim protection D was really good tonight. It's funny looking back on last year and how much of a defensive liability he was in PnR and transition D, but he's a legitimate positive defender now.

I'm comfortable with not only Kyle and Gary, but every single rotation player excluding Brooks and Scott always shooting open 3's that are catch and shoot open looks. Our offense isn't good enough to pass up that opportunity with the expectation of a better shot in the possession.

Random, but no idea why Houston didn't foul at the end. Seemed weird to just waive a white flag, but I'll take it.

All this said, still plenty of room for improvement for a team #5 in Kenpom. Really don't think we've reached our ceiling yet, but I hope we get there. This is a game we never win in years past where our defense wasn't elite and we had to rely on offense. It's nice to be able to win multiple ways.

Also, can we stop letting Houston and other teams roll the damn ball up the court so they get to save game time AND shot clock time. That drives me nuts.

yeah if he's gonna keep penetrating and dishing like this, nobody is gonna complain when he's in!
I was watching him carefully, and b several times he penetrated almost to the FT extended, than backed up or passed backwards, why?? Don't go into the trees, but don't stop there either.

I'm going with The Professor for Kyle. The way he talks in pressers...he just seems like he should be teaching somewhere.

Evans. Mr Freeze. He's ice

To validate the professor tag, here's Kyle Washington after the game, " It's kind of difficult, an arduous task sometimes. But this team is probably the closest team I've been on in terms of cohesiveness and getting through adversity. It makes it easier when we are in a spot like that, it was a great test for us." Love this guy

I may have missed it mentioned somewhere in this thread but Trevor Moore is quickly becoming one of my favorite players. He's played far better than I expected him to but that's only half of the reason why. The energy he brings is incredible. He gets fired up and is always cheering the guys on. Multiple times last night when we were on a run and a timeout occurred he was pumping up the crowd, or flexing and yelling, or something else along those lines. I bet as the years go by he'll be a crowd favorite more and more. And a prolific scorer.

That game had a sorta Kenyon versus DePaul vibe. Except the team took over as opposed to one guy. The final score wasn’t as tight (plus the DPaul game was on the road), but lots of similarities.

With Washington being a SR, it's awesome having a guy like Moore to bring the passion and energy. I absolutely love it.

Brooks with a nice 13 minutes last night. Between him and Kyle the post play was a very big part of the victory.
