Does anyone have any updates with Strickland? What is the probability he plays this year?

I have not heard anything but IMO if the ncaa says he is eligible in December or January Mick might just end up redshirting him because there is not very many minutes with Jackson now stepping his game up and Nyarsuk his back up getting the scrap minutes. Also no room for 13 players this year. No need to waste a year of eligibility, just keep him practicing and getting better for next year.

NCAA is historically slow with this stuff. I think they'll hear one way or another by the first game. UC could use another big body (if he can play) and Mick has said he does not intend on rs him.

I agree if the ncaa says he is eligible by December then Mick will use him in scrap minutes but after December I think Mick will redshirt him we could really use him next year when JJ and Rubles are gone and he will only be that much better from sitting out this year and just practicing and learning.

Its really ashame they punish a kid for something that isnt his fault. Especially by not even allowing him to practice. The NCAA is a giant joke. From only allowing coaches 2 hours a week to work with kids during the off season to scholarships and everything in between. Congress must run it

Not to mention it would be nice to have someone at the 5 next year with D1 experience. I hope we will be in decent shape with Strickland, Moore, and DeBarry but I would much rather get Strickland in there this year for some experience.

While I rarely agree with the NCAA, in this case the jokes are these prep academies these players go to that try to pass themselves off as high schools. These schools cut as many corners as they can to let kids "earn" a diploma without giving them a real education.

I believe a few students from Strickland's school got into Harvard. Not sure if what you say applies here....

It seems to me that in this case the jokes are the people who speak like they know what is going on, but really have no clue.

As Chad said the school he attended is far from a diploma mill. In fact Strickland is the first high major recruit they have had in a long long time.

So if this specific prep school is so great, what is the problem with Strickland's eligibility?

That person being me, just come out and call me out if that's your intention.

I actually tried to look up the school's credentials to see if they had any issues with the NCAA and found none. I can't speak from actual knowledge anything regarding this school. Nor for that matter did my original post point to this school directly. It is a fact that there are several prep academies that every year lose their accreditation with the NCAA because they are jokes on academics and that the NCAA is cracking down on this. Yes I did assume this school fell under that category, but not being able to find anything I didn't say it. I was speaking in general that I don't think the NCAA is a joke in cases like this for not allowing players into college without proper high school records and credentials. Whether or not this applies to Strickland is beyond me. It could be his original high school where he didn't do what he needed to do to take and pass basic high school classes. Bottom line is something in his records is under scrutiny. If this school is so great then one would hope they would've cleaned that up for him and made sure he took the proper steps to get cleared to go to college.

I did. I quoted your post and replied directly to it.

It didn't seem like you were speaking in general when you said:

Maybe I misundertsood, but typically when people say 'in this case' they are referring to the specific case at hand.

I don't mean to be a dick, but it sure seemed like you were trying to pass something off as fact that just wasn't true.

If you don't want to be a dick, don't be one. Calling someone out on an opinion board and saying they're trying to pass off their opinion as fact is a dick move. I never stated that what I was saying was fact from some inside knowledge I have on the situation. I was responding to someone saying the NCAA was a joke, not about Strickland's case. I might not have worded it the best, but again to clarify my "in this case" was in regard to the NCAA and not Strickland, and to clarify further meaning the cases where the NCAA checks thoroughly to make sure players are eligible. I have nothing more to say on the matter so you can have the last word and try to outsmart me.

I was in the section next to where he was sitting. He was cheering on UC throughout the game. You could def. tell he wanted to be out there.

He is a guy I think can really help and I think Mick believes he can too. If he can merely be adequate he will help with his size and his athleticism is far better that DN.

I completely agree Jeff. I really think if we could have Strickland out there he would really help this offense. Just having a big guy that can semi make a post move would be tremendous. IMO, our offense is going to struggle big time because we will be easy to defend. We need a big guy or two to keep the D honest and have good spacing. The way our offense is now, and has been, its like we are going against 6 vs 5. It's too easy for defenses to help and switch, especially when our guys aren't the greatest at getting to the basket.

Nyarsuk seems like a liability when he's on the floor sometimes. He has bricks for hands and can't move. I hope we can get some servicable minutes out of him, but Strickland being out there gives us another option and obviously will help with his development.
