Yes we'll be a young team next year, but I am excited to have some talented post players that actually know how to play the game. I am thankful for what Mbodj and Nyarsuk brought defensively but we are going to have some legitimate big men with Strickland (So.), DeBerry (Jr.), Moore and Clark. We'll also have Lawrence back at 6'9 playing small forward and most likely taking over the socring role with no SK and JJ.

That's a little off if things stay as they currently are:

Seniors (2):

-Sanders
-Guyn

Juniors (3):

-Shaq
-JDIII
-DeBerry

Sophomores (4):

-Morman
-Johnson
-Caupain
-Lawrence

Freshman (3):

-Moore
-Clark
-Strickland

That leaves one open scholarship that could fit anywhere into the classes depending on where the player filling it comes from.

ya i got to be honest, none of those big men excite me, maybe moore, but you never know how physical they can be against better competition, Deberry looks like he has the best body for a big man and clark is more of a small forward and he will be really good for sure but he wont play the 5. Strickland didn't impress me at all in summer league.

Strickland only played one summer league game. He was a very good scorer in high school and prep school, and he put on a lot of weight between his injuries. He has lost a lot of weight since he became a bearcat, and while I don't think he will ever be really athletic, he looks like he is coordinated and could prove to be a good scorer down on the block, which we are sorely missing right now. It's too early to judge him either way.

We haven't even played a game yet, so he might not be redshirted. Hence me counting him as a sophomore ...

Yeah, he might not, but things aren't looking up on that front.

As it stands he has yet to be cleared and will be redshirted which is why I said "if things stay as they currently are".

Yeah you're right. I really hope he plays. I am a beer half full kind if guy so if he plays he helps us this year and he gets a year of experience to help for next year. If he redshirts we do have Dave and JJ so it might be a wasted year as far as playing time goes. We'll find out soon I guess

I love how a top 15 Center and the 23rd ranked, athletic PF Gary Clark does not impress us any more. We have come along way since 6'6 John Williamson from Cincy State...

Gary clark is not a pf it might say he is, but against division 1 college basketball competition he will be a small forward, and if you read my whole post then you would know that I like gary clark a lot I think he might even be better than Jermaine Lawrence, but he isn't going to play pf for us. he will be more like shaq Thomas just a better shooter but really good at driving to the post. After JJ and Rubles leave this year you can not say that you aren't worried that we have to rely on all new coming players that havn't proven anything. And as I recall Kelvin Gaines was #19 for centers and look how good he was so a top 15 center means nothing to me. If there is any position that you can drastically improve in throughout your time in college it is the PF or Center position. Hence Kenyon Martin, Eric Hicks, and Now Justin Jackson. The Center position is definitely are question mark for next year.

I think big men are generally over rated mainly because you can't teach height. A lot of their rankings are based on potential.

Frease was 9th best center in his class
Biggie McClain was ranked 8th best center

My main question for the recruiting gurus is how is Lawrence ranked in top 20 without playing for 2 years?

I am worried about the low post next year but I have no worries about the 4. We don't have to play a traditional PF at the 4. Next year we will have Thomas, Lawrence, and Clark to fill the 3 and 4 (with options to play smaller at the 3). I think Lawrence and Clark could play a more traditional 4 in a pinch. As much as I loved Parker...he was basically taking our wing spot. We have gained at least 4" at that position and added better talent at whatever we want to call the 4.

We will have to find quality to start at low post as well as find quality depth between Strickland, Mooore, and Debarry...and maybe our next 2014 recruit. We probably won't answer the 2014 low post question this year...but we should answer who might be looking good at PG and SG.

The days of a 6'11 C and a 6'9 240 PF are long gone, and that type of roster doesn't fit what Mick wants to do. They will be fine with Strickland, Moore, Clark, Deberry, Lawrence and possibly even 1 more to man the 4/5 next year.

"As much as I loved Parker...he was basically taking our wing spot. "

I think Parker was a HUGE asset to us. We had scoring with Cash and SK last year, so when they were having off nights I felt he stepped his offense up and had some big games. He had nights of 21(2x), 19, 16... The toughness he brought will be missed this year as well as his rebounding. Someone needs to fill this role. JJ is no longer our off the bench energy guy, so someone on this bench needs to contribute. If Sanders does not take this on then I don't really know what else he brings to the table

I've been away for a bit, and I can't seem to find an update on Strickland. Has he been cleared, and if not, can we expect him to be cleared this year?

I can all but guarantee you Clark will play the 4 here. There is a reason when Mick made his comments about him he compared him to Titus and Jackson and not Shaq.

Any word on Jamaree's status? a geriatric snail on downers moves faster than this process.

Someone asked Mick about it on the radio last night. Still ineligible and unable to practice. Mick said they could use someone with a big body like him, since he's the only guy they have that weighs over 240. I'm totally guessing here, but from the lack of optimism in the way he talked about it, I wouldn't expect him to play this year.

What is really upsetting about this whole thing is that the NCAA already looked at and allowed guys like Dez Wells and Michael Dixon to transfer and play right away after they have been booted from their respective schools. Meanwhile a prospective college player is trying to play his freshman year and they haven't looked at or done anything seemingly. At the very least they could let him practice, what is the harm in that. From what I understand from Dan Hoard is that he will have 4 full years after this year.
