Jamaree Strickland

What is really upsetting about this whole thing is that the NCAA already looked at and allowed guys like Dez Wells and Michael Dixon to transfer and play right away after they have been booted from their respective schools. Meanwhile a prospective college player is trying to play his freshman year and they haven't looked at or done anything seemingly. At the very least they could let him practice, what is the harm in that. From what I understand from Dan Hoard is that he will have 4 full years after this year.

4 years after this year if he does redshirt this year

ya i got to be honest, none of those big men excite me, maybe moore, but you never know how physical they can be against better competition, Deberry looks like he has the best body for a big man and clark is more of a small forward and he will be really good for sure but he wont play the 5. Strickland didn't impress me at all in summer league.
I think Clark will be the better of the big he reminds me of fortson

Have you seen Clark play? He is 6' 7'' and is pretty thin, he has a good handle can shoot a little bit and is a great athlete. So basically nothing at all like Danny Fortson.

Yah I think he must be thinking of someone else here. Nothing alike other than their height...their skill sets are completly different. Possibly Moore, Strickland, or Debarry? IDK...Fortson was pretty unique in that he didn't have a lot of moves but somehow he moved people out of his way and powered through defensive arms and made buckets. There was little any defender could do about it because everyone knew what was coming and he did it anyway.

Using your logic, I guess Deshaun Morman should be our best player this year since he was good in a summer league. Strickland played in one summer league game, it means absolutely nothing. He is a big body and you have to at least give him a chance before coming to quick conclusions. Can't be worse than Big Dave, right?

Strickland tweeted that he can't play until next year in response to someone asking him if he could play this season. It isn't a shocker, but it still stinks, nonetheless.

Man, I miss the days when we had good low post scorers:[ame]http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_up1RPAB338[/ame]

I got to attend an "open" practice yesterday and Strickland was not practicing nor was he present in the practice gym. I did see him afterwards down in the athletic center hallway. Parker was in there subbing in and out for Rubles. He was limiting his practice and at one point subbing him in on offense only and letting Parker play D. I would just assume he's nursing a minor ailment, he didn't look to be limping. Interesting too, Dixon was there at practice but didn't see him do anything, but I guess he is in town practicing with the team. I heard many former players come in and help with practice when they are in town and in between their leagues in Europe. Other than that the practice was uninteresting. They were running set plays. When we first came in they were running plays off a missed fg. They would line up and intentionally miss the free throw (no jokes here guys about our free throw shooting...) and then run a quick offense out of it. Everything in practice was done geared towards pushing the play to the hoop and Mick kept yelling at them when they would settle outside and not push it inside. He stopped alot of plays too because of guys not screening or switching on D. The assistants were very active in running the plays and directions in practice. Then they switched to running offense for Mid Tennessee St. (our next opponent) and showing what their players liked to do and what they needed to prepare for. Apparently they have a very quick guard (#5) that doesn't look to score alot, but they have two big guys that set screens and do their scoring. Lots of pick and rolls. That's about all I could pick up. It was hard for me to follow along with some of it. All the players played hard in practice although I wouldn't mistake it for game energy. Shaq looked disinterested and kept rolling his eyes, his body language just gave off the vibe that he didn't want to be there. Could've been an off day, he wasn't getting called out for it or anything so no big deal I guess. Guys were giggling at some stuff so the practice seemed loose. I heard afterwards it was a very tame version of a real practice. The athletic department was grateful that Mick allowed this to happen for the fans since it is more a distraction to the players and the coach interrupting a practice. I would agree. The players at times were looking over at us and I know Mick was running an easy practice. I don't think I heard him cuss once. Still it was interesting to see. Mormon was popping threes off one foot. He's got some nice bulk to him for a freshman wing player. I can't wait to see him play.

Was also at open practice and thought that overall it was a great event. My son got autographs from all the players and got to shake SK's hand. He was wearing a #23 jersey and will remember this for a long time. The players were all accomodating and seemed like really good guys. Shaq was just goofing around and gave both Ge-lawn and DN forearm shivers during cuts and was laughing about it. I think they all knew that this would be tame practice with outsiders looking on. It was a nice touch for Whit Babcock to personally speak with all the attendees and thank them for their support. We also saw Jamaree in the hallway and I asked him if he would play or practice this year. He said he would learn later that day about practice and was hopeful. Unfortunately we all know the decision, and it is a shame for him and the team that he is not allowed to contribute this year.

The players do all seem pretty cool to meet with the kids and stuff. Yeah, I imagine if Shaq were really being pissy Mick would've called him out. I know I would if I were coach. Could just be his mannerisms. I did notice numerous players giggling and joking, even Mick at one point. This team does get along together well. I agree the event was cool, especially for a kid. It was weird though because my wife asked me if I had fun and I was like no it wasn't really fun and kind of boring but at the same time it was interesting to see a different side of the basketball team and how they operate.

I gotta say my problem with shaq is that he could be the best player on our team if he wanted to be, but he is to passive in our offense. I swear he can take anyone off of the dribble if he wanted too. I know his shot is flat, but I went to the NCAA tourney game last year and I thought that he would be up close to sk's point production. To me it seems like he thinks he has to create shots for others when he is clearly better at making shots for himself. It doesn't matter if your shot is flat if your 5 feet from the basket and too me he can get that shot 8 times a game, Idk too me if we are going to be a good team this year he is the one who needs to improve, I can see him concentrating a lot on defense, but his matchups on offense need to be a priority for us moving forward where most of the time he will have a height advantage on the person guarding him.

Yeah, Cronin mentioned something in the post game the other night about making sure Shaq isn't tentative on offense. I hope he can get Shaq to calm down and stop thinking so much out there.

Exactly, his tentative attitude I believe comes from him not believing that he is as good as he actually is. After sk misses a shot the next possession he is looking to take another one.I can't say that for anyone else on the team. It's like they think just because they missed a shot they arent aloud to shoot on the next possessio. I see that a lot with rubles. If anyone is open 10 feet and in its a good shot and it should be taken, but often times it is passed up and we end up having to take a desperation shot and the end of the shot clock.
