Yeah Huggins was a much scarier man than Mick is. It is sort of comical when he gets pissed and struggles taking his jacket off, only to throw it in an assistant coach's face. And in interviews when the interviewer is 99% of the time taller than him

That's basically what other team's fans make fun of about him when they can't think of anything else.

Agreed. Huggins is doing an excellent job of scaring all his players off, something like 10 of the 13 recruits from '10-'12 aren't even on the roster anymore.

On offense I agree, but defensive 5 is different than defensive 4 right now in college hoops with tons of team playing 1 true post.

you right that's why I don't see where JL leaving because of position when Mick said he was out of position and was expecting big things out of him at natural position. Both our 4/5 play in post so where was Mick saying he was going to play? We know not the 5 we have 3 big bodies on roster.

I think Mick was referring to him being at his natural position (4) next year when we have more traditional 5 men in DeBerry, Strickland, and even Moore. You're right - last year there wasn't much difference with the 4 and 5 but that was based largely on our personnel. Oftentimes we just didn't have another body to put in at the 5 when Jackson would get in foul trouble or need a breather (not counting Nyarsuk).

Lawrence is not even close to being able to play the 3 at this point in his career. I don't know why players always want to be something they're not.

You won't believe that JL is leaving unless you hear it directly from him. However, you'll readily believe Mick promised him he would play the 3 without the same standard of hearing it from the source?

I guess I just don't understand what you're trying to say.

- Yes, he would come in for Titus or Jackson depending on fatigue/foul trouble
- Therefore, he would often be out of position by playing the 5
- Mick would sometimes say in his postgame that he's playing out of his position and would be more comfortable next year
- If Mick told him the 3 was his job, don't you think he would have tried putting him there this season? Shaq and Sanders were often hit or miss, so you'd imagine Mick would have given Lawrence time there if that was his plan

I don't think Mick ever had any intention of playing him at the 3. It's not hard to see he doesn't yet have the skills for that. He's a 4 and if he tries to be anything but that he's just not smart IMO.

He game to UC as a 3. Out of need he played the 4 and 5. It may not seem like it to those who have only seen him play last year but he has always been a face up player. In HS he had handles and a nice shot. People see his size and think he is a post player. He played out of position last year for the good of the team. The reason he was a 5 star recruit is because he had handles,touch and size. He was a mismatch. He never got the opportunity to show that last year. If he feels he isn't going to get the opportunity to play to his strengths he would be foolish not to explore other opportunities. Personally I think if given the same opportunity as Sanders and Shaq at the 3 he would out play them this year. If I had to choose who I would rather have at this point in their careers it would be JL.

Sanders is a heady player without much athletism. His shot has improved but he is a sub on the team.

JL has skills and needs to be used to play to his strengths. Kid was a freshmen last year and played a completely different position then he has ever played in his life. Don't judge him off last year. Would hate to lose him and so would Mick.

While I am not disagreeing with your comments, I certainly didn't see anything that told me he was a 3. He had plenty of opportunities to take his man off the dribble. I don't think I ever saw him successfully get past his defender. His dribbling skills were dismal. Now I know he was a freshman but even at that age if he was a true 3 he would have displayed good handles.

Thank you Waite hoyt 2. A blind man could read between the lines and see that Mick recruited him to play the 3. I thought he was more skillful than Yancy has freshman just never really got settled in to get comfortable.

the writer who wrote that story was just speculating like rest of us was. The rumor came from during the season anyway. Mick came out after season and stated JL is playing his natural position. What position he was talking about is everyone's guess.

Guys go back and read some of the threads out there from when we were recruiting him. He didn't play a 4 in HS.

Also playing the wing versus playing with your back to the hoop is entirely a different game. Lots more space to maneuver on the wing. Your comparing apples and oranges. I saw enough of him handling the ball to know he wasn't a post player. Mick even said he played out of his position.
