Pitt shot nearly 20 FT's in the second half, the FG stat is a bit misleading...

The game was almost thrown away when two seniors made mistakes near the end, the bad shot by Rubles and the bad pass by Kilpatrick. On the last play the three seniors came through, SK with the first shot, JJ tipped the rebound to Rubles, who scored the winner. Whew.

Nice to see some former Cats catching this one...

You don't think SK would have been blamed for throwing a bad pass when Sanders was wide open under the basket, which led to the only Pitt basket in the last 14 minutes?

Did you miss the fact that we held PITT on TWO different occassions to 8 fulll minutes and then 14 fulll minutes of NOT scoring a single bucket????

Anyone??

My takes.

What a great defensive performance....was that a different sport on the offensive end?

Geeze same ole dribble around the arc. I dont know how many times I saw someone catch the ball around the arc and immediately start dribbling to the side looking to pass. You rarely if ever see someone get the ball and go hard to the hoop. TC needs to shoot more. Rubles needs to shoot less. Shaq. IDk about shaq anymore. How many times should he have scored last night? How many layups did not get up over the rim? How many times does he lose the ball? Sanders. What has happened to his shot? he cant hit anything right now. Wide open 3s and awful outcomes. Jackson had a good game. SK needs to find ways to beat the D. I know its going to be tough since he had 3 or 4 guys on him at some points. But in those moments he does exactly what he should do. Get the ball to the open man. Its not his fault that whoever the open man is misses the wide open shot. LAwrence little by little every game is showing me more and more. Our bigs need to stop coming all the way out to the 3 point line to catch the ball. This completely takes them out of the play and then when the give it back to the guards they are another 5 feet behind the arc. IF you cant catch the ball at the arc go set a screen and try again. It does no good catching the ball all the way out there. Again. Great Defensive team, probably the ugliest offense Ive ever seen. With the new foul rules there is no excuse for only getting to the line 3 times. But how can you get to the line if you dribble around the 3 point line. Ill leave it off with......TC is going to be good. Really good

i agree completely about TC...it is going to be fun to watch him for the next 3.5yrs...

Dan and Chuck said near the end of the game that it is just a matter of time before Caupain is starting. Both directed their comments on how Guyn had 0 assists and he is an outside passer, can't make the pass in the lane when penetrating.

Well, it would help if he would penetrate in the first place. Hard to drive and dish without the drive part. At this point, he's in there entirely for defense, but I think I'm OK with that. He was a difference maker last night in his half court ball pressure. Pitt never got comfortable and we kept pushing them further and further out.

In a perfect world, TC would play D like GG or GG would improve his offensive game, but I think we're going to have to get used to the idea that TC is the offensive PG and GG is the lockdown defender.

Again, that's misleading because they fouled a lot and gave Pitt freebies at the line. I could hold a team scoreless for an entire game if I just fouled them every time down the court. I'm not saying their defense was bad, it wasn't, but that stat is incredibly misleading.

The most important thing it means is that we didn't give up a single easy basket in those time periods. Not 1. Whether we fouled to avoid it or not, that is a good way to win.

The other thing we did was limit their possessions by taking forever when we had the ball and then getting an offensive rebound about half the trips. I wonder how many FGA's they even had in those stretches. Not a ton.

The reason I'm so encouraged by this team is the play of TC. Its been quite awhile since we had a PG that could drive finsih at the rim or find the wide open wing. While Cash had a nice career but knee problems really prohiited him from onsistently getting to the rim. He could nail the outside shot but dribble drive penetration and dish were very tough for him with his history of knee problems.

If this years team grows the freshmen and makes the Dance i will be very pleased.

Only thing that is a pause for concern with Caupain is his quickness/explosiveness and on the ball defense. I'm sure he'll improve on the defensive end with time.

He isn't a bad defender now. I'm sure he"ll improve with playing time and the more physical he becomes/ kid just turned 18.He has great lenght. He already is quick enough to get to the rim. As he gets more comfortable with the team and level of competition he will be very good. Instead of focusing on can the guy finish at the rim look to see if he can deliver to the open man when he is cut off. Can he make those kind of quick decision. Last night I saw him twice drive the lane, get cut off and throw the ball accross the baseline to a wide open player in the corner. That is what a PG should beable to do. Lots can get in the lane but few can find the open man when they are cut off.

Hey guys, I realize that we won, but do any of you feel that the game was being reffed a little bit lopsided? Pitt went to the line 29 times and us only 3. On our last drive Sean received contact and so did Rubles and neither were called.

I thought the officials were pretty even. Pitt attacked the basket hard and UC didn't, hence the discrepancy. I thought Rubles was fouled at the end but you aren't going to call it in that situation. If you were then you would call the over the back on Jackson and Rubles would never even had a shot.

Yeah, that's why he deserves to start and play almost all of the PG minutes, IMO. Guyn isn't a smart player and he doesn't have the potential that Caupain has. Time to let the frosh learn on the fly and live with the growing pains. I'm counting down the days until we can get rid of Guyn and Sanders, especially Guyn. We hopefully can bring in more skilled recruits in their place.

it may have been a bit one sided but I attribute most of it to the fact we were just so much more aggressive defensively. We were not gving up bunnies. One observation indictes we were a little short changed espescially in the first half. We scored all of our 20 points in paint and only shot one free throw.

I'm fine with Guyn backing up Troy. Don't really care who starts right now either as long as in the crunch time TC is running the show. thought guyn played fairly well last night. good d and no TO's. He just doesn't put any pressure on the other team offensively. he actually may be a little miscast in the team. He has a nice touch from the outside. Sometimes I wish MC would leave him at one wing with Troy running PG and SK at the other wing.
