We need a third guy to command defensive attention so we can keep them totally honest. I think we can get this by keeping Caupain on the court longer. He is already averaging 7 points in 20 minutes...give him 10 more minutes per game and we probably get 3 more points and 1 more assist...maybe even half a steal per game...not to mention clutch FT's.

I agree, more Caupain is the most likely and the most logical solution. Guyn just isn't giving us enough offensively to warrant a 50-50 split.

I would add that I thought NM had good big men and that it is possible that JJ took the X game as motivation to assert himself more. He certainly didn't have a good game against X but he only attempted 1 freaking shot. Perhaps Cronin lit a fire under his ass...perhaps JJ lit a fire under his own ass...but something has changed in JJ since that game.

I agree with you to temper excitement but right now I am more optimistic than pessimistic that JJ has turned some kind of corner.

Since the X game when JJ attempted only 1 shot....he has attempted 8, 8, 14, 14, and 9 and made 62+% I think. Not only is JJ more confident in his abilities but Coach Cronin is going to impliment a strategy to get him the ball more in the future with "clear outs"...that's my guess anyway. Do I expect 16 points per game? No. Do I expect him to become a huge part of our offensive scheme from here on out? Absolutely. If he only gets one shot off against Memphis I will be completely shocked.
 
One of my favorite plays from the last game was when JJ did the spin move and then dunked so fast the defender was still standing in the original spot and then JJ ran down the court with a **** eating grin.

I am telling you...I think this kid has just NOW realized his full potential and imapact. Potential I didn't even think he had. In fact I predict we see games where he over asserts himself (too confident) rather than the opposite. It will be a delicate balance to get it right by end of season for both JJ and SK.

JJ is 100% better offensively than he ever was. My only concern is that we have no backup for him if he gets in foul trouble, or, worse yet, gets injured. Nyarsuk is worthless, but I love the way he "sprints" down the court like a gazelle :D Neither Rubles nor Lawrence can play the 5 so we'd have to go small with 3 or 4 guards. That would be disastrous Hopefully we won't have to find that out, but it is something Mick needs to consider just in case.

Perhaps, but I'm not one of them. I hope he goes on to win the NPOY. I just don't go overboard when a player has a few good games. Hell there is even talk about JJ and the NBA on other boards. IF JJ can continue to focus on attacking the basket and boards and getting his points that way he will be fine. If he begins to think again that he has a good face up jumper his play will go down hill. Mostly I just want him to continue to cut out the stupid plays which he has for the most part these last few games with the exception of the bad goaltending that usually happens once a game.

NM do have good big men, but that was a typo, I meant SMU. I did not think JJ played well against NM though his numbers weren't bad. I may be misremembering that game but I thought I remember him struggling against their bigs.

In 2011, Tuberville was elected second vice president of the American Football Coaches Association. According to AFCA tradition, he will move up to first vice president in 2012 and president in 2013.[2]

With CTT being president, hopefully that bodes well when the next realignment shift takes place.

What if he was hired for 2 things:
-To get boosters to fund Nippert expansion - Could Lyle get this done?
-Get us to a P5

He already accomplished one huge goal, if he gets the other, I don't think many will complain with the 9 wins he got this year.

From 2000-2007 he finished no worse than 3rd in the SEC
 
JJ's style of play reminds me of Dennis Rodman. Lean build, good defensive player,excellent rebounder and if you sleep on him his quick's will catch you flatfooted.

Eh... those stats can be a bit misleading, we didn't rely nearly as much on Gates as the others. He actually got the ball a lot more in his junior year. Having said that, Jackson has put himself in good company. Company I didn't imagine he'd be in this year.

Yancy used 21.1% of possessions and took 22.7% of the shots when he was on the court his senior year.

Jackson uses 24.4% of possessions and takes 23.2% of the shots this year. So we are relying on him a bit more, but the difference isn't that drastic.

Right now our two best leaders by example, emotionally, and verbally just happen to be our two best AND most experienced players. These are the type of models we want our younger guys to watch and emulate. Plug a crafty, controlled, and clutch TC into this mix along with getting one more player to rise up...this team could be extremely dangerous come March. I know I am getting ahead of myself but these guys seem to be coming together. The D is stifling as usual but the offense has a different dynamic now than what we have been use to.
