Well, for the record, I didn't mention Huggs. You did. I think there are many coaches out there that could do the things I listed. They had nothing to do with Huggs. I think those should just be the expectation at the University of Cincinnati....not at large bids only.

Really? You're gonna play that card? Lol. Then who are you describing here:

Oh definitely yes! They would be happier with the guy winning 25 to 30 games, winning outright league championships, league tourneys, at least getting past one game in the tourney, landing top 25 recruiting classes and some blue chippers, developing players to the point that they get drafted in the NBA which is a huge boost to the program, igniting a fan base to sell out most games with near sellouts in all others, and re-taking control of the city and state that we once owned. Hell yes Waite, they would definitely be happier

How about the things I listed. Stay sober and graduate players?

We can still easily win the conference this year. Nothing that happens on the court will advance this conversation until several more months play out. We all want more, but that can't happen today, or tomorrow, or next week. We just have to let things unfold and see if we get over the hump or not.

jake I am with you. I go to almost all the games and enjoy them all. Of course the ones we win I enjoy a bit more. I want to have the same clout as KY or Duke but I know that isn't happening in todays game.

Waite, the graduation rates under the previous coach were debunked many years ago. I refuse to go back and explain it to you again. We actually did quite well graduating players within the regular timetables, and also outside of those timetables. I am quite proud of the previous coach not giving up on his athletes once they left the basketball team, and still encouraging and supporting those athletes to keep working toward their degree and eventually finishing. 60 Minutes once did a big story on how that is not the case with most programs and how once the athletes were no longer helping the coach's win, many of the coach's had nothing to do with them again.

As to your favorite boy's graduation rates, aren't you a bit concerned why we haven't been reading much about little Mick's graduation rates recently? Well, here are the facts. The men's basketball team graduation rates under Mick Cronin the last 5 years.....2015 (43%), 2014 (58%), 2013 (56%), 2012 (81%), and 2011 (77%). You have often used graduation rates as a "key" criteria for keeping Cronin, so I expect you to have an immediate reversal on your stance now. Also, you don't have a clue how much Mick drinks or not. Here are the graduation stats for your enjoyment.

BTW, the graduation rates have deteriorated over the last 5 year just like the performance on the court has.

Waite, I said I wouldn't explain it to you, but luckily, the NCAA website talked specifically about it so here it is. This is why Huggs' graduation rates got labled as low...inaccurately. Also, the Cronin rates above are under the new "relaxed" guidelines, and they are still pretty low. Huggs rosters, especially early on when he was taking heat for his graduations, was filled with Junior College and other transfers. There is, or at least there was a wall in the Shoe that had pictures of all the basketball players who graduated, and many of them were the ones that were in the zero graduation rate formulas used back then by the NCAA.

From NCAA.org:
College and university presidents and chancellors grew increasingly frustrated with the federal rate in the early 2000s because it did not accurately reflect their students’ academic success.

In response, the NCAA in 2002 developed the Graduation Success Rate, which deals more appropriately with the reality of transfers by (1) removing from the calculation for a given institution any student-athlete who transferred but was academically eligible to continue their athletics participation at the institution of previous enrollment if they had stayed; and (2) including in the calculation for a given institution any student-athlete who transferred into that school.

So we were penalized illegally? I also do not consider mick a favorite. I also do not have to know how much he drinks. I only have to watch the video and read the police report. Drinking and drunk driving ste very different.

Good god...not this again

WH, what do you want? Do we just let people say stuff that is not true and move on? That's where it starts. Cronin's graduation rates are a current topic. I didn't bring it up. Waite did. He asked a question. I answered him...with the facts.

Please shift this conversation from the Lipscomb thread to either Higgins vs Cronin or State of the Program.

Nothing below this post should be unrelated to Lipscomb.

You can read the NCAA comments Waite. You be the judge if it was illegal or not. It was certainly wrong.....but lets get off of Huggs. I'm more interested in your thoughts on Mick's graduation rates.

Jacob, I will comply, but nobody was commenting on Lipscomb anymore anyway.

Exactly. So it shouldn't be in the Lipscomb thread. Not blaming anyone in particular. You can see how the conversation evolved...it's just time to move it to a more appropriate place.

I agree with jacob. All this stuff belongs in a different thread. I don't care who brought it up or who responded. If the Lipscomb thread is dead so be it. We don't need every thread reverting to current coach vs past coach conversations.

I don't blame you or anyone else...let's just move it there

I finally had a chance to watch the second half of Lipscomb. I thought Scott did a fantastic job filling in for Clark and Cumberland impressed me in several ways. Cumberland has yet to miss a 2 point shot on the season. He's been extremely good at finishing at the rim. He made 8 of 10 FT's and seems very good at getting to the line. Tre has done a great job of playing within himself and choosing good shots...leads the team in FG %. He's also been very good at the hustle plays like rebounding and blocks. I would like to see him get a few steals though. Very good developments IMO.

I think Gary is better than Tre with his back to the basket but Tre might be better at facing up. He's got a smooth shot. In terms of rebounds and blocks I think they are similar. They are both good passers too. Not sure about defense yet...I am sure Gary knows a little more about the scheme but Tre has been in the system for 2 years now...so hopefully he's adequate. Gary might be better at defending post up...but Tre is pretty good with help D and blocks.
