I may be looking into this too closely but some comments from Mack today rubbed off of me in the wrong way:
"Tu Holloway was suspended because of his actions that precipitated the fight and his comments after," Mack said by phone from Cincinnati. "Lyons because he instigated things even though he had become a peacemaker in trying to settle Yancy Gates down."
Okay, interesting. So even though Lyons was the main instigator, you decided to only suspend him for two games because he calmed Yancy down...after the fact Lyons threw about 8 punches himself beforehand? Maybe Mark should worry about calming himself and his teammates down first. Too bad Yancy didn't go hug one of XU's guys so we could only suspend him for two games too.
"Whatever road we go down, we have to do a better job of not escalating the rivalry to where there is animosity between the two programs by calling each other out on Twitter or on radio shows," Mack said. "It should be more of a celebration of two really good programs in the city rather than the Hatfields and the McCoys. It's up to both our programs, led by me and Mick. That's what has to happen."
Again, to me, this seems like Mack is just taking the easy route and quitely placing the blame on UC and SK. How about just saying your players need to grow up and control themselves? He said the same thing Tu did yesterday - someone "called him out on twitter." For one I don't think SK or anyone called him out on twitter. Secondly, if your player can't take a "hurtful" tweet then they probably shouldn't have a twitter account. Let's face it, they're known college athletes. People will follow them and tweet them stuff. If you feel "disrespected" by something on twitter then delete your account.
I really want to move on from this whole fiasco, but these parts of this story really bugged me. Again I might be looking too far into it just to find something to complain about, but I'd like to hear what you guys think.
