Mick a Candidate for UNLV?

was checking out a MWC board. Mixed reaction on the possible hire. all seem to believe he's a good coach but some see better coaches available for $3m

and TC's layup last year put it in overtime, didn't win it for us. You're basically judging his post season success on several fluke plays.

TC's layup was Larry Davis' accomplishment. Stop trying to give that one to Mick.

Guys, you don't have to look too far up the road to find a very similar situation that played out in the not too distant past.

Many UD fans weren't happy with Brian Gregory, their fanbase was fracture over supporting him, much like us with Mick. Brian decided to leave on his own and take the GT job and half their fan base felt doomed and the other half was excited. Then they went out and hired Archie Miller and their program improved, and look at where Brian Gregory is at GT, mired in mediocrity in a job that pays a lot of money but in a place where it's very tough to win.

Whatever happens with Mick, the decision we make on the next hire is a critical one. There are other candidates out there who can elevate our program despite what many of you think. We just have to hope the administration is savvy enough to go out and get one.

Nice comparison. However on the other end there is Minnesota that fired Tubby Smith and haven't won anything since.

No doubt, there's risk involved. But we're not talking about firing Mick here, if he leaves he leaves and I certainly hope the university isn't prepared to give him 3mm/year to convince him to stay.

I would also argue that Minnesota is a much tougher place to win than UC.

What are your expectations? We are a non power 5 team. If you expect to do any better than just make the NCAA tourney then you are over inflating what we are capable of at this point in time.

There was also a tweet out there from Cumberland's coach at Wilmington saying that he believes Cronin isn't going anywhere because he wouldn't leave his daughter.
Hi ex is remarried to someone not from Cincy. Maybe they both want to move.

If Cronin leaves I can't even imagine the delay the new arena would get. What booster who's about to donate some serious $$$ would donate with a new coach coming in who seemingly has proved little before arriving? Cronin leaves, we have the current arena for 5 more years.

Does anyone have a prediction on a time frame that mick will make this decision. Like today, this week or this month....

1 subpar season?

No - 1 epic failure of a season. There have been plenty of subpar. And yes I manage people, and if they don't fix what was wrong the year before, you get someone else.

If he stays, ok.... go win.

If he goes, ok, get someone from your short list and go get better.
Coaches in his league picked him to finish 3rd. I don't think this season was a epic failure. Could they have done better sure. Epic failure come on

It's pretty comical the number of posts this thread has gotten in comparison to so many others. If Mick does one thing it's get us all talking. I'd also like to welcome back
Posters who didn't post in a game thread all season.

I'll preface this by saying who knows if this rumors has any merit to it or not...

But there was something on Twitter saying the sides were working on a way to avoid Cronin's buyout. I don't know the full details of the contract, but why would UC agree to waive the buyout?
as of this year 3/1/16 his buyout is 1mil. A significant drop from last year. I read this on line so don't know how accurate it is

Mark Amazon and George Vogel were just on the radio and Amazon questioned Vogel, "George, what about the player development? I just don't see guys getting better under Mick. They get bigger and stronger, but they don't get better." Amazon brings up Deberry. He said, "Here's a guy that looks amazing in the postseason last year, then disappears for a year, then looks amazing in the postseason again this year." George says, "He improved, but he never played." Amazon respond, "What's up with that? I just don't think we've seen enough player development under Cronin."

This has been said often and the Mick lovers will bring up SK, and now Clark and Evans, but in general, it's been an issue for 10 years now.

How much does Uconn spend on basketball? Memphis, SMU and Houston. Much more interested in that than what Louisville spends.

Was just thinking the same thing. What a shame this team was not healthy. I think they could have beat ST Joe and the Ducks and gave Duke a run with all their injuries.

They weren't any better at winning big games earlier in the season when they were healthy.
