I was VERY disappointed in Micks postgame comments. I couldnt believe he sounded enthusiastic about the performance...

Mick was happy with our offense!? Um we scored 60 points and shot 45 percent from the line.

Mick said you cant defend a team like that? Um, what? That team is very very good. They are a clinic on how to run an effective offense.. With that being said, countless time UC players got lost and it lead to a wide open three. You cannot trap a team like that... Im not sure if they where told to, but you simply cant.

While I dont necessarily think that his points are wrong, I think his mentality is wrong.... Anyone see the story about saban last year? writing down thoughts on how the defense of line could have been better.... DURING his National Championship postgame talk. Take a page Mick...

All and all my thoughts on the game are this:
- Offensively, UC shot the ball better then normal.
- Defensively, they played how they always play, aggressive. Sometimes you cant play like that.
- When we get nothing out of our 4 we arent going to win... Everyone expected UC to struggle a little at the 5... Not many expected the 4 to be abysmal.
- This team is beyond bad at shooting free throws.
- ND is playing extremely good ball right now, they are going to be tough
- People cannot Boo everytime Rubles takes a shot. Its purely confidence, and right now he has zero. They need him to be effective.
- Parker Struggled
- I actually liked what I saw from gaines last night. He got lost on a few plays.... He needs to stop giving people the stiff arm offensively.
- Sanders FINALLY hit a shot... followed up by one of the worst turnovers you can have.

I was highly disappointed in his comments as well. I usually look forward his post game because he says the truth but maybe this time the truth hurt too much. Along with his comments after the St. John's loss it almost seemed like he was happy to get beat because now he won't have a Top 25 team, maybe he couldn't/can't control being a Top 10 team. Maybe he wasn't ready to get every team's best effort. I'm sorry but I think its unacceptable to say you are glad you won't be in the top 25 to get your kids to play. UC isn't surprising anyone anymore and its like he is encouraging this loss. I don't even care about the offense for the ND game, Cronin's defense and lack of adjustments led to the loss.
When Cronin was talking about needing to score more points to win....well no sh!t. It seemed like sarcasm or maybe he knows we need to score more points but doesn't know how to get his players too.

This is what makes a coach a coach, what makes analyst an analyst (for the most part) and us, just posters.

His job is to coach this team. Get it done. It shouldnt take a loss for this team to be taught a lesson. As the coach it is your job to get that point across. Is that not what a coach does??? Each player reacts differently to get them to play up to their potential. It is his job as the Coach, to figure that out. I think him by calling a loss a good one, is taking the easy way out and not living up to being a "coach".

If he listens to the fans, he has rabbit ears. Who cares what the crowd thinks-if he pays any attention at all, it is too much. Confidence comes from within and is lost from within. If anything, it should make him play better because he wants to make the shot.

I don't remember him saying the loss was a good one. I've heard him say in the past that losses are the best way a team responds to what is wrong with it's play. The effort last night was 10 times better than Saturday's. We ran into a good if not really good team playing well and subsequently lost. We got beat really bad for about a four minute stretch where ND put a clinic on us for how to pass without the ball hitting the floor, other than that our defense was for the most part solid the whole game. Notre Dame executed very well. They scored down the stetch to hold the lead and we were playing very tough on the ball defense. Yeah there were plays here or there we got beat but that happens. The only part of the game where we stunk it up followed the only part of the game where ND stunk it up and we got a nine point lead. The talent level on this team is not what he had hoped and we are streaky, which is nothing new to these players. I know it seems the sky is falling, but the season is 30 games long, and then a new season begins.

I liked what he had to say. He pointed out the positives, which there were some and he did everything in his power not to rip the refs so he wouldn't be fined. The jist of what he said was our defense got beat by a good team playing at its best and that he knew going in it would take offense to beat Notre Dame last night and we didn't get enough. He said you can't score 60 and beat a team like Notre Dame. He said while they did things well (which the stats back up) it wasn't enough execution, it wasn't enough to win. I really don't know what people expect a coach to say after a loss. We did lose to a very good team. He pointed to the lack of offense which is what everyone on here is griping about. God forbid he try to be positive to the fanbase. It is his job to sell this team and not throw them under the bus. Our message board does a good enough job of that and others do a very good job of it.

It's really not that difficult to look up the postgame quotes so that you can accurately refer to them.

"We were going to have to score more than 60 points tonight to win. Pretty evident that no one is going to beat this team scoring 60 points. Period. End of story.”

“You can replay things anyway you want, but no one is going to beat them scoring 60 points, definitely not tonight. I think it was doable. We could have scored more points tonight. We left points on the board. First half, I thought we had three shots around the rim that we got hit on. We have to learn to play with more contact and not bank on calls. Get those balls in the basket."

"...we could have scored more points."

"I think we could have scored a lot more tonight.”

"I still think our free-throw shooting needs improvement. Games like this when you are playing a really good team and are playing really well, to beat them you can’t go 5-11 from the free-throw line."

"Again it goes to offense, and you can only stop them so much. You have to get the ball in the basket. Whether it was the (Thomas, Kilpatrick and Rubles) all missed a driving lay-up in the first half, 5-11 from the foul line and those seven turnovers. Those are all offensive possessions where we came up empty. Against this team, you won’t beat them unless you can put the ball in the basket.”

Yep, Mick was definitely very happy with the offensive production!

"Success has made us soft," Mick Cronin after NM loss

Success or playing a weak OOC? We werent exactly beating the crap out of those crap teams either from a physical standpoint. I have seen nothing different in our approach from the beginning of the season till now. We settled for 3's with few passes. We didnt look inside. We didnt run transition. We did have missed defensive assignments that the below average opponents did not hit.

We did hit wide open 3's with smaller defenders in our face. We did rebound better vs the undersized opponents. We did handle the ball well vs less than average defenders

I hope Mick can figure out how to make things easier on this team because they do not have the talent or the IQ to do it on their own in the BE

Call me crazy but this years teams should not be effected by all the media attention and being ranked well. That is such a lame excuse, and thats all it is, is an excuse! Year after year we have heard this, and I believed it two years ago. With the upperclassmen on this team and the success they have experienced the last few years, there is no excuse. Being ranked in the Top 15 is something they screamed for last year and we get it but now we need to lose a game to refocus? Give me a break. I guess you cant blame one more than the other (coach vs. player) because they are a team but I'm trying to figure out which one to be more annoyed with.

Totally agree. Its like a broken record, I feel we have heard the same thing for the past 3 years. Definition of insanity maybe? Doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.

Yep

Defense, rebounding and limit the turnovers. Thats great and all but isnt that what everyteam tries to do? What is our gameplan? Our scheme to exploit the other teams weakness

Dont be THAT GUY... Mick also spoke about how the offense was on the right path and was happy with the assist total...Yawn.

Sounds like a grade school coach....."Nice try guys, we will get them next time." Did they get snacks from the team mom after the game? While I agree that there were a few positives to this game, Mick shouldn't be trying to sugarcoat it. The sky isn't falling, but this team needs a good ole kick in the a$$. Time to get them to wake up and start looking like a basketball team. The offense was better, but still not good enough. I was impressed with the defense, all things considered. To hold a team that can't miss from 3, has a post player that dominated us, and shot 50% from the field, to 66? I will take that any day, especially since they are hot offensively coming off a thumping of Seton Hall where they scored 93 (Seton Hall sucks, but 93 on any BE defense is impressive). We need JaQuon Parker to contribute-his ability to get to the rim is so important, especially since it is what the other two guards are afraid to do.

If you are going to completely misrepresent what he said after the game then I have no problem being that guy. A coach can't be happy with 18 assists on 23 made FG? I have no issue with Mick pointing out positives from this game because they played well. Notre Dame was just better. Not every loss warrants a state of the program meltdown that has become customary on this board. I'm still wondering how we survived after the Marquette loss last year. According to many on here the program was in disarray and the season was over. Oops.

Like I said earlier today, good thing some of you guys aren't Georgetown fans. Lost by 28 at home tonight and scored 45 points.

we can all agree that this team is not special on the offenseive side of the ball. We can agree they could of beaten every team they lost to.but we can also agree that they are a very tough team for anyone cause of there defense. The light will eventually go on somewhat for this offense and when it does we can agree they r going to be special. Remember for atleast this yr this is still the big east. And the beast is known for teams beating the shit out of eachother.nd was picked to finish third in the conference also. I will make a prediction that they will win more road games than home games in the conference. And for other good news pitt beat georgetown at georgetown..

If you make a pointless comment it usually isn't a good idea to not only repeat it, but also acknowledge the fact that you are repeating it. What does Georgetown being bad have to do with UC? Good thing we aren't Maryland Eastern Shore fans too, huh? Nice argument.

I don't really care too much about what Cronin says as long as he gets the results. But some always expect the best and there are past players/coaches on this board and that's what we expect. There is a reason Saban is the best at what he does. Not only is he pissed when they lose, but he is pissed when they win but don't play well. That's what makes great players and coaches and is why people don't want to hear after a 3rd straight home loss that he was happy with the way they played. But again, ultimately it's the results and right now he isn't getting them. He has a big game on Saturday so we'll see what they're made of.

Not getting results? The record is 13-3. There are no "big games" during the college basketball regular season, the only point to the regular season is winning enough games to get into the NCAA tourney. If you fail to that then you can still get to the NCAA tourney by winning your conference tourney.
