Mick's RECRUITING

Help Support BearcatTalk:

Cincinnati fans in general don't know what they want

Cincinnati fans want greatness, but they aren't willing to deal with mediocrity and fail to realize the lack of support through mediocrity is what will build to greatness down the road. It's Mick's fault for not filling the Shoe, but they're not going to go themselves until the team is great, not realizing that not supporting this team now is what is limiting it's ability to push to the next level. Cincinnati fans want the Big Red Machine on the field every year and they want the final four every year (because you know we've been blessed with one in the past 50 years). Until that happens it's a combination of 80%the coach/manager's fault and 20% the players lack of talent/intelligence/ability to be great. We'll never win with Marvin Lewis, Dusty will never win the series so who cares if we won 97 games and Mick will never get the recruits so why bother going to games and spending money. We need a new arena so I just can't see going to a game. I'm too good to sit on a bench seat, build me a new arena and give me cheap tickets and maybe I'll go if you can show me you have the ability to beat Duke or somebody. Until then I'm going to complain about every micro thing I can think of as to why I can't just be a fan of a team.

Sorry for the rant, there's another thread that has BearcatMick and Ralph arguing about who is right and who is wrong on conference realignment, although this statement will probably open up that lively debate to this thread.

Fans have excuses not to accept or support their teams so they look for the littlest things to complain about like recruiting. I guess we would be happy with all ESPN top 100 players with a losing record huh. If this team is winning and doing it ugly I'll take it. WVU has a .500 record so I guess the huggs fans that are still around would be happy with that

Boo-ya, touche! ;)

With nearly a half season left, UC has won 67 games in the past 3 seasons. I would call that good recruiting. Some are interested in stars and numbers, I care about wins. Mick's recruiting has brought us a lot of those recently and I think we'll see that continue. That's the only way we should judge recruiting in the end. Did they win?

because some kids that happen to be highly rated fits his system. he said himself he will not waste scholarships on just any body. he has to get kids that will play for him and be team oriented

Im sure thats why he got lance Stephenson... The thing is that everyone wants uc to get the top ranked players but when that continually fails year after year people say ridiculous things like you... As in cronin never wanted those top ranked players anyway. Its just amazing that you actually believe cronin would waste his or his assistsnts time on plsyers he never wanted.

Yea im saying we need all top 150 kids. We don't need 5 year projects. Plenty of teams recruit top talent every year that are not powerhouses. Marquette, Nova, St Johns (now), Uconn, Memphis...The list goes on. I can visibly see when watching this team play that we do not have the talent to compete with the big dogs in the tourney. There is a HUGE difference in our talent compared to 15 years ago here. I like these kids but they are just not that talented.

What are you smoking? We've beaten St Johns the past two years. If St Johns is so talented, how come they beat us by a point? .... Yes, we laid a deuce against them, we did last year at home as well. Then we went to their place and beat them. That's the way it has been. The past 3 years, what has St. Johns won exactly? 0 tourny games. In fact, you'd have to go back pretty far to find a relevant St Johns team.
Have you seen Villanova play this year? They stink. Last year they stunk also. UConn may have talent but it's the kind of talent that gets you an NCAA suspension, so who cares? How well did Drummond work out for them last year? Memphis? Have they won anything the past 2 years?
As for Marquette, Marquette doesn't get nothing but top 150 players and their best player last year Jae Crowder was a Juco, which kind of craps on your argument...

We don't have an instant impact player, if that's what you mean. Save for St. Johns and Obekpa, none of the people you mentioned do either...

You as always refer to wins... If a lot of those wins are vs absolutely horrible cupcakes how can you keep using that as a point?

Stephenson was going pro regardless and if there wasn't the one year rule he wouldn't have came here. my thing is winning not numbers in front of kids names

I agree

Because every team plays them. How come you never mention more ranked teams beaten by UC last season than any other team in the nation? Take away Micks first 2 seasons, and include this partial season and Mick is averaging over 20 wins a season. Even with the first 2 included he is averaging 18 wins a season. Given the circumstances he started under that's very good indeed. By seasons end his average wins per season, all included, will exceed 20. Again given his starting point and the fact he coaches in arguably the deepest league in the country I'd say he's done very well.

Yet no be championships, regular season or tournament, one sweet sixteen, no elite eights, final fours, etc....

But not winning against nm, st j, or nd.... But pacific and presbyterian.... Oh wait....

You're an idiot. Every team plays cupcakes and all lose some games they should win. You Mick haters like to believe this is only something that happens in Cincinnati. Again, why no mention of beating more ranked teams than any team in the country last season? Doesn't fit your narrative does it?

We've had one final four from the Huggins era til now. Final fours are basically luck and seeding. I guess those Kenyon Martin/Steve Logan teams must have been crap huh?

Some people....

Only an idiot would use the same excuses for seven years. Beating all those ranked teams did uc a heap of good in the ncaa and recruiting.... Tell me again how bad uc was when mick took over and how cincy fans suck and how the Facilities are crap.... Sigh

Cincinnati fans are clinically retarded, their support of the local pro teams is proof.
Would you remind me how many teams walked into Mick's situation(one scholarship player) and rebuilt, went to a sweet 16 in the time he did? Can you even think of another team in that situation? I can't.
