they dont play well together because broome is out of position and jenifer isn't very good. you weaken 2 positions with them both in the game.

I was pleasantly surprised that FLA did not pressure Cane when running point. Cane has been suspect with turnovers at that position. He has thrown the ball directly to the man guarding him a few times against patsy teams and he has thrown the ball away (or been intercepted) on several other occasions. He's producing less TO's at SG...but playing him at SG is not making us a lot better as a team because we have 2 really good SG's already.

We need him running point and not turning it over too much. It would be nice to spell Cumberland and Evans with Moore IMO rather than having Evans or JJ run point and moving Cane to SG. If we are going to be a great team now or in March I think Cane needs to run point and with limited mistakes. If we can't do that he just becomes a 3rd SG. We need a great PG to maximize this team's potential.

Cincy I really can't go into detail but on BCJ Chad did a breakdown on how the team performed when JJ and Broome were on the court together and the outcome was the team did well. I'll also add I was surprised as well.

the overall performance together probably had a lot to do with florida not being able to score. they went through a 5 minute stretch with only 2 points early in the 2nd.

but all the time they played together in the 2nd half resulted in a combined 4 points between the 2 of them and likely 0 assists.

i really dont think the turnovers are nearly as big of a deal or problem as everybody else. he was sloppy at the start of the season, a likely scenario given he hadn't played in 2 years.

but a 15.8 turnover rate vs xavier and florida is not bad. caupain last year vs A tier teams had a turnover rate of 16.1 in those games.

and when you think his 2 turnovers vs florida came on a miscommunication with gary and then at the end just trying to get down the court as fast as possible and im really not going to be concerned about them.

For starters he should have taken that last ball to the rack without a pass. The D is not likely to get in his way much with that little time on the clock. That was a bad decision and the TO ended our chance (not that we had much chance at that point...but it was the only one).

In terms of being rusty...I get it. But he was having trouble getting used to the speed against patsies and hasn't really faced (as a PG..not wing) the next level of D that he is going to have to get used to. FLA did not pressure him hardly at all at PG...and I think we are lucky they didn't.

I think he will adjust...but the adjustment period is not over yet IMO.

This is stupid and pointless but I'm going to do it anyway.

Estimate of minutes I'd like to see at this point:

Jenifer 15
Broome 30
Cumberland 30
Evans 33
Moore 8
Williams 4
Clark 30
Scott 14
Washington 20
Brooks 10
Nsoseme 4
Diarra 2

Hard to put too much pressure on Broome bc we could just bring a screener out to 30 feet and let Broome get downhill with his quickness.

i really don't get where the idea that if you play defense on cane he'll just hand the ball over.

if we used the same sample size of this season with broome to judge our other guys, then cane, evans, cumberland, and washington are all turnover machines and can't be trusted with the ball.

he's had 6 turnovers over the past 4 games. he had trouble in 2 games, but mostly just due to being sloppy, not actually having trouble holding on to the ball (both games against complete scrub teams and he even admitted in a recent interview he wasn't comfortable and it was tough finding himself cause the games were such blowouts) the other 7 games he's been fine with the ball.

we want to paint him as a certain player off 2 games of 9. what about the other 7?

Listen...I don't want to dog on Cane. He is a great player and we need him. But we have a much larger sample from Evans and Cumberland and this is Cane's first year on this level. He was turning it over at a different level already so the concern is real IMO at this level. As I have said, he seems much more comfortable coming off the wing...but IMO we need him on the point to have a great season. I think he adjusts in the end...but I still think there are going to be some growing pains...but I would be VERY happy if that adjustment is already over. He has played great in our biggest games!!

Cane was primarily playing point early on when he had some struggles but now he's playing a mix. If he can play point we can get Moore in the game to see if he can get hot. If he can't play point we really won't see Moore all that much.

That sounds pretty good to me...but we also saw in the last game Cane sitting near half court while Cronin was calling plays. I didn't see the screens that you are asking for. I think it's a good idea though.

he only played a mix cause cumberland was in foul trouble and mick didn't want to use a freshman.

cane is a pg through and through. he's not a sg. that does not mean there aren't sets where he can be off the ball. watch how wichita state uses shamet, but he's still the pg.

2 bad games, 9 turnovers in the other 7. why aren't those numbers people cling to.

Instead of starting every game trying to feed the post, I wish we'd start every game screening for Broome 30-35 feet from the hoop. The possibilities are endless if he's on the move with 3 guys spread around the perimeter.

Jenifer earned the spot early. Broome has clearly earned it back. We can talk all they want about Jenifer not turning it over, and that's great, but it's asking a lot out of the 4 other guys when he barely even registers a stat in over half the game. Pretty straight forward at this point.

if you noticed, xavier nor florida even guarded jenifer when he was in. we played offense 4v5. thats impossible.

even jenifers 40% from 3 stems off 2 games. the other 7 he's 4-18 which is 22%

I think he has played a mix in the last several games not just this last game. I also don't see a problem with using a frosh if he can be productive shooting the ball. He played against X but he went 0-3. That's not enough to keep him on the bench IMO. He can shoot and he always looks engaged in the game on both ends. Maybe Trevor proves himself not quite ready yet...but I haven't seen enough poor shooting to determine that yet.

As far as Cane I hope you are right. I don't mind using him coming off screens at the 2...but it shrinks our rotation and I'm not sold yet on needing to do that with Trevor being an option. Jenifer already gets PG minutes...I don't think we need him stealing minutes from the 2 because we have to move Cane over.

Cane is getting better and I want him on the floor for 30 minutes. I just want most of those coming from the PG position if we can get it that way. I would like to have Trevor as an option rather than getting 0 minutes.
