I found myself not looking at conference realignment thread because it was just Ralph and Mick bitching back and forth. This thread is for everyone else to discuss the topic.

Lol i thought the same thing. I guess I will actually have to count on ESPN to give me the break story on this topic.

I firmly support making this a non BearcatMick/Ralph thread

Calhoun truly believes in a year, #UConn "won't be where we are now." (meaning not Big East)

That is nice Calhoun believes that, but UConn will be with UC in the new Big East a year from now.

B1G analyst Gerry DiNardo seems to think the B1G will expand to 16 for the 2014 season, by taking 2 from the ACC. This guy is very well connected in the B1G. http://www.offtackleempire.com/2013/2/12/3974794/ote-interview-with-gerry-dinardo-part-2

It will be interesting to see how this all plays out. I know that the process of adding teams involves market share, tv numbers, increased reach, etc. I also get the feeling that Ohio State and Michigan and other established conference powers are saying go after all those things but make sure their football team can't actually compete against us.

Ralph has no clue, he just wants to ruffle feathers. There is a 0.1% chance that UC is left out of a power conference after all is said and done. 100% chance the big 12 and big 10 expand, and 90% the ACC loses more teams.

Yeah I don't think there's any way this conference realignment is done. I firmly believe the B1G is taking teams from the ACC too, it just names the most sense. FSU and Miami maybe? No way will they reach for UC though. O$U would never let that happen.

It could happen. Prez Ono is cool with Gov. Kasich. There is no way Ohio, the 7th most populated stated, will be left with only ONE BCS program. Not when Iowa, Indiana, Oregon, Washington, Kansas, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Tennessee, north Carolina, south Carolina, etc. All have 2 schools in power conferences. However, the only way I can see Big 10 is if they go to 20 or 24.

Of course. Ralph/BM just like the attention. The only part I disagree with you on is the power conference statement. The only Power conference out of the Big 4 that UC has a chance in(assuming that they all go to 16) is the B12. B1G doesn't need or want us and the SEC won't invite us. The problem with the B12 is that they will have some solid options from the ACC to choose from first.

Teams ahead of UC and UConn in the pecking order(in my opinion - based on market value/facilities - and in no particular order):
-Miami
-FSU
-VT
-UNC
-NC State
-GT
-BC
-UL(should they decide to jump a weakened ACC)
-Clemson

Also UCF and USF are two huge Florida schools that could potentially be two valuable schools to any conference trying to break into(or potentially expand) that valued Florida market.

The thing is if one more school leaves the ACC, there is going to be another. Then the dominoes fall from there. It's already rumored that UVA is ready to jump to the B1G...The B1G wouldn't invite just one team. Then we add the fact that the ACC cannot get everyone to agree upon a Grant of Rights. All the signs are there for expansion

hahaha Dang, did you really just try to link UC's president, the governor of Ohio, and what power conference UC will end up in?? That's pretty funny dude, someone is reaching.

If Maryland has to pay $35 million or more, I doubt any other schools will leave the ACC. Expansion will still happen, limiting the potential candidates. The Big 10 will then have to take SEC and Big 12 teams, maybe even us. The Big 12 will likely dissolve, with some members going to Pac12.
Also, Do not discount the possibility of us getting into the SEC. They took Texas A&M to get into the Texas market when there were better options, so I can see them taking us to tap into Ohio and to compete with the Big 10.

I'm not saying its likely, but definitely possible. UC is the largest employer in SW ohio, and the whole state would benefit from us getting into a power conference.

If Maryland ends up paying $25 million or less (most likely), the ACC will be raided shortly after. The big 12, SEC, and Big 10 will pick it apart. UC will most likely end up in the ACC at that point, with most of the schools from the big east. We will regain our AQ status and make more money, while essentially being in the same conference.

Opinion= unfounded claim
Argument= supporting a claim with reason/ fact

Let's argue. Otherwise, I suggest you reserve your opinions for your personal blog or Twitter. Let's make this a place of being open-minded and exchanging ideas.

Not ruffling any feathers, giving my opinion which is well based. The Big 10 has no where to go to expand, the 4 available ACC schools that are AAU members, a Big 10 requirement for any school but ND, Duke, UNC, Virginia, GT, have already turned the Big 10 down. That is why the Big 10 ended up with Maryland, the last available AAU school.

ACC schools will not leave the ACC for the Big 12, or any other conference. The ACC is solidly together, especially with ND coming in.

The Big 12 has stated they will not expand if it causes the current 10 to make less money. Neither UC or UConn raise the Big 12 TV rights by $25 million each. The only schools that come close to raising the TV rights $25 million each are schools such as Florida State and Miami and neither has any interest in joining the Big 12.

With the Big 10 and Big 12 unable to make moves realignment within the Power 5 is for all intents and purposes over.
