All you people complaining about the offense and Cronin can't coach offense need to zip it and open your minds and look at the real problem. Its so easy to sit here and say, oh he is terrible and has no offense. The only number you need to know is 9/38 from 2 pt shots. Its not the coaches fault this team can't finish and play extremely soft. They need to work on getting foul BC its not that hard. Almost every time we go to the hoop we avoid contact and just throw the ball up. We shot a good % from 3's and that wasn't the problem. I think its hilarious how when we win no says anything but the second we lose its the typical, Cronin has no offense blah blah blah. Maybe its Cronin and the other coaches fault for not teaching their kids to go to the hoop and get fouled but that's about it. It doesn't matter if we had stellar set plays, if we can't finish around the rim it doesn't matter. We will still get the same results, missed short shots.

The reason we lost was BC we shot 9/38 from inside the arc. We are very soft around the rim thus why NM had only 3 fouls with 14 seconds left. That ruined our chances of getting a good shot off and credit to NM, they played the last defensive stand brilliantly.

How about them playoff bound Bengals!!!!!!!!!

The more talented team shot 23.6% from inside the three point line 9-38. Coaching is not to blame for that. Many of those misses were from inside 3 feet of the basket.

Ralph, you're agreeing with me!!! I love it, I can't believe the rational reasoning from you. I like it! :)

No offensive rhythm is on the coach. Lack of execution is on the players. It was definitely a mixture of both last night. In some cases, we didn't finish in transition, that is on the players. But this "pass the ball around the perimeter and have bigs do nothing" offense is gonna look great some nights when we make tons of 3s, but horrible on nights when there's a lid on the basket. That is on Mick. We do also have to take into consideration that New Mexico is also very good defensively, but we need to score 70-75 ppg if we want to be great in BE play.

I agree that the coaches need to incorporate the bugs a bit more but it won't do much when they play soft around the rim. Until this team learns how to get fouled we could be in for a rough ride. No reason why we can't average 15 ft's a game.

If you're tough around the rim you win this game by 20. That's really all there is to it. Kilpatrick's shot selection has been horrible and I think he's trying too hard to live up to something instead of just playing. Cash has to assert himself when others are hitting to draw doubles and dish. Rubles needs rained in and Thomas needs to play more. Thought Guyn should have been given some minutes.

I think this team need this, they had regressed, and do believe it will be a good loss long term. Mick has been saying "it has biten them yet" for 3 games. He saw it coming.

LOL. Mick got taken to the woodshed by Alford.

The more talented team lost. The less talented team outplayed the more talented team. The more talented team didn't seem to have a game plan.
This has nothing to do with mick and everything to do with shot selection and finishing inside

If we have to be that tough around the rim every posession were going to wear down halfway through the season. We get zero easy looks at the basket, zero dunks, zero transition points, zero uncontested layups.

All those missed opportunities by the basket were with hands in the face. We have got to find a way to get the easy looks, ATLEAST one time in a game

Agree with your statements! I've been really disappointed with SK's shots the past few games. He has straight up settled for jumpers and not even thinking about driving. Part of that is probably due BC his ball handling is weak. I mean it really isn't that hard to go to the hoop and get fouled. Every time we drive to the hoop we change our shots and it looks like we just throw it up praying it bounces in.

We are 12-1, which is a fantastic start. That being said, I am somewhat concerned (not of missing the tournament or tanking or anything) but I do think there are some clear flaws on this team, which people on this board have touched on:

-Inability to get anything offensively from the 4 spot. I'm not sure what happened with Jackson. Is it me or has he not improved since his freshman year? He's all blocks/rebounds/defense and we get NOTHING out of him offensively. I really thought by this point, he'd be dunking bunnies around the hoop and putting putbacks and layups in consistently around the basket. He's a junior and still struggles unbelievably with that. We don't need him dribbling around the perimeter. We don't need him jacking 3's. We need him to move in the post and put the freaking ball up strong. Also, I know some people on this board get sensitive about this...but on offense, Titus Rubles sucks. I missed the exhibition games and read the hype about this guy on this message board...and he sucks. He can't shoot 3's and everyone loves to talk about his shot fake...but when you can't shoot 3s and on top of that, are out of control going to the bucket, who cares about your shot fake? Yes...I love how he crashes the boards on O and D but his offense is a problem. We knew we didn't have anything offensively at the 5 spot really but to me, not getting anything out of the 4 spot is putting way too much pressure on our guards and our opponents are able to focus on that.
-I'm not sure this is the correct offense for our team. From what I've seen, the strategy is no off-ball screens, to dribble around the permiter and to depend on driving to the hole and kicking out for 3s. I have a hard time believing that this is the whole gameplan but it doesn't seem to be working.
-Not pushing the ball. If we're going to struggle in the half court and this team lives on D...we really need to stress the transition game as advertised in the pre-season.
-Cashmere Wright dependent. Our offense doesn't flow that well when Cash is on the court...but when he is off it, it's even worse.

The sky is not falling. We are 12-1. My guess is anyone on this board would have taken that at the beginning of the season. The worry is that team's smother Cash and SK, and play off TRub and JJack. That's what I would do. And while I'm at it, I'd make Parker go left. If I'm Mick, I'm trying to figure out how to combat that.

Pitt at Pitt is going to be another tough one.

I agree with everything that Hicks said above. Getting no production out of the 4 is the biggest problem we have had this year against solid teams. What happened to JJ? I hear that he is a gym rat and see no real progression in his game. Jackson has looked lost on offense and his passes are terrible. He makes bad decisions routinely on offense. Rubles looked good against sub 200 RPI teams, against good teams he has gotten lost on O. His poor shooting 3 pt % and poor 10-15 ft. shot has really limited his game.

True but unfortunately the bengals season ends with another 1st round playoff loss

You were wrong about New Mexico, you were wrong about UC going undefeated in the OOC, your were wrong about Louisville going to the Big 12, I am very encourged that you are predicting a Bengals loss.

Uc would have beat New Mexico and gone undefeated had they just listened to mick. I told you Louisville was leaving the big east months ago. You disagreed, said the big12 will not expand and then they ul left

The bengals are not winning at New England, at Baltimore or at Houston

What world are you living in where a teams consistent inability to finish at the rim and going soft to the basket isn't the coaches fault? Those items are coachable. When UC drives to the basket (which isn't very often) they jump away from the rim. It's obvious. Cronin knows this too, but it's his job to coach that.

If they had steller set plays finishing around the rim wouldn't be as difficult. This offense does not create any easy shots. And they don't run like Cronin said they were going to which puts more pressure on their half court offense. I warned everyone before the season starts not to get your hopes up about that b/c he always says his teams will run but he cares about ball control way more than playing an up tempo offense.

As for giving Cronin credit when they win, you can look it up but I'm pretty sure I gave Cronin credit for out coaching his oppenents in the XU and WSU wins. Granted UC had much more talent but Cronin made the necessary adjustments in the 2nd half to pull away from both teams.

As for the NM game, he was simply out coached. UC should have ran more, there is no reason UC shouldn't have beaten the 300 lb center down the court every time...Also, the end of the game coaching was terrible. First, everyone that knows a lick about basketball knew NM was going to use their fouls. It was obvious the UC players did not. Cash should have gotten the ball and immediately went to the hoop to not waste time and put pressure on NM. Instead they dribbled slowly and allowed too much time to waste.

Second, the inbounds plays were horrible. Having a freshman who hasn't played much this year take the inbounds was dumb. It's not like he is some great passer to begin with. And when SK was taking the ball out, who on earth didn't know the play? Everyone did, including NM.

I like Cronin. He is a good coach and gets a lot from his team. But his offense has never worked here. I hesitate to even call this an offense.

Nice try, you were wrong on all three as you are wrong on almost everything.

Still cannot get over the Bob Huggins firing thing, eh?
