Mid-major is a silly term. Didn't the A-10 and MWC each get 5 bids this year? The MVC has had some pretty good years too. Not to mention how good Conference USA was before Cincinnati left. I don't recall folks referring to Conference USA as "mid-major" when Cincy, Louisville, Marquette and company still played there. I believe we had a few 6-bid years, in fact.

Yeah in basketball I don't think it matters. Look at how weak the SEC and ACC were this year. However, in football you have a big divide and we need to be on the right side of that. The B12 will put us in a solid position for that and the ACC will put us on the right side of it but I don't know for how long.

At this point I will take either one.

Georgia techs radio announcer just said to expect more acc defections when the Maryland settlement deal comes out next week

We shall see but I doubt anything will happen. Mayland leaving was a fluke, like South Carolina leaving around 1974. The ACC is solid group, no school will leave.

Realignment guru Tuxedo yoda just said USF, UCF, Miami and mystery ACC team to the B12.

UNC and Another mystery ACC team to the SEC

This would be worst case scenario for us

Not going to happen, if it were, ESPN and Fox would know about it and be reporting it on their websites.

Tuxedo Yoda is nothing more than an attention seeking blogger with no credible sources.

Are you sure that's what he said? I'm not saying he's a legit source but your version is off. Here's the blog post

Done deal
There are 2 rock-solid, definitive statements I can make. There will be no hedging, no flip-flopping, no back-tracking. There is nothing that can fall through and no last minute shocking developments that will change things. Per my source, these 2 realignment moves have been fully negotiated and they are DONE. They have not only been blessed by the networks, they are the products of the networks, particularly Fox & CBS.

#1 When the 2014 college football season kicks off, UNC will be a member of the SEC.

#2 When the 2014 college football season kicks off, Miami will be a member of the Big 12.

Regarding #1.......I know you want to know who will join with UNC to be team #16 in the SEC. Per my source, this has not been decided.

Regarding #2.......The Big 12's preferred scenario is to only add 2 teams, FSU and Miami, and to stop at 12. Miami is a done deal. FSU is not. I was not told why. I was not told percentages of FSU joining the Big 12. I was not told if FSU is trying to join another conference or if FSU wants to stay in the ACC. I was told that if FSU refuses to join the Big 12, the next most lucrative option proposed by the networks will be carried out. The Big 12 will go to 14 with a 3-team Florida block of Miami, UCF, USF and a 4th team from the current ACC. I was not told the name of the 4th team.

Why are these things happening? This isn't about what fans, ADs or board members want. I was told this is what the networks want.

He might have changed it. Is that the most recent update?

I don't understand why you say this is a bad scenario for UC. They end up in the ACC.

We'd make substantially more in the big12 than ACC and have potential to make more through bcs autobids for football

For bball you're right. ACC is better but money is in football

ACC is competing with every other conference minus the big 4 for 1 bcs spot starting in 2014

I want no part of the Big 12. Could never win that conference in football, all of our basketball recruiting pipelines are east of the Mississippi, and I dont want our programs to have to travel like WV. ACC makes so much more sense.

I feel the same way. I think there would be years where UC could compete in football but it would be hard to deal with football factories year in and year out.

I think the ACC is a perfect fit for UC in terms of both football and basketball and from a travel stand point.
